bazaar apparatus posted:Hahaha in this newest episode, I laughed so loving hard when Greg corrected that "grammarian" and shouted "GOOOOAAAAALLLLL" for like a minute. This seems to be quite apt: This week's episode was super long and the crowd was super rowdy, and I inferred from the rowdy crowd that they are actually fans of Mr. Kittens himself. I hope that this implies that longer eps are on the horizon.

While I realize David Bowie's acting has been pretty questionable for the most part, I was surprised there was no mention of The Prestiege. Bowie was my favorite part of that movie.

Thought I'd ask if anyone remembers which episode had his answer to something like "how to get drunk for the first time". In the back of my mind I kind of wanted to find whatever sea salt and things he recommended, but it's been months now and I know I'll never be able to find it. Also, this podcast turned me on to Hardcore History too.

I started listening to this podcast maybe a month or two ago while driving and it has quickly escalated to my favorite podcast ever. Greg has yet to be unfunny to me, even when talking about people and things I have no experience with. I even dig the boring preachy parts, partly because I agree with it all, but also because the Proopster comes across as a dude who has arrived at his political opinions through hours of research and critical analysis. I think especially these days that's so rare that I'd be delighted by it even if I disagreed with him.

After being a staunch listener and listening to every Smartest Proopcast, I have concluded that Greg gets a little tiresome after a while because he's always so damned worked up now. He's so upset at everything political, and sometimes I just wanna hear him ramble about old books and history like he would when the Proopcast was young. I still love his boring preachy parts and feel like I've been getting a lot of my knowledge from the Proopmaster, but he can grate on me. (My super entitled, spoiled, wealthy liberal friend hates the Proopcast and gets all defensive whenever I bash on Obama. )

The Man Grate is the most comically unlikely sponsor for this show. I'm suspicious that it's a running joke, like Pete Holmes shilling for Gamefly.

Honestly, though, I think Greg's barely veiled (and increasingly not veiled at all) contempt for it makes for significantly more memorable advertising than his Spotify bits. I would be perfectly happy if I were Man Grate.

It's really funny that the mangrate is still sponsoring the show. You'd think some humorless corporate dickhole would've said, "Oh no, this guy isn't promoting our product at all. In fact, I think he might possibly be making fun of us! He even said a bad word during our ad. Aglurp!" Wildly inappropriate sponsors of podcasts is always unbelievably hilarious to me. I was listening to Supremes yesterday, and I'm really profoundly sad that Greg thinks Jack Morris should be in the hall of fame. Between that and calling Kirby Puckett a "wonderful person" in a span of a few minutes, I was surprised compared to how on-point about stuff he is 98% of the time.

Kirby Puckett is an interesting topic, and one I'd definitely like to hear Greg talk about some time. It struck me as odd too, but I think Greg was just talking about all the great stuff that's come out of the Twin Cities, and maybe it was just not an appropriate time to run down Puck in front of a local audience. Despite turning in to (or probably always having been) a scumbag, he was a great ball player and enjoyed a fantastic reputation for a very long time. He really was M/StP's favorite son. e: Hell, don't wait for Greg to talk about it. If you don't know what I'm yammering about, search for "The Rise and Fall of Kirby Puckett". It's fascinating, and pretty sad. It's been awhile since I've read it, but one story I remember was him having sex in a van in a mall parking lot. At one point he opens the side door, fully nude and in plain view of several people, and begins urinating on the asphalt. Before he went nuts, he rated about a 7.5 on a "1 to Tebow" scale. New episode is up and is good, but someone in the audience is trying to set the record for "world's loudest idiot" by yelling/screeching a reply to everything Greg says. Also, he promises this will be the Pete Rose ep, then doesn't mention him until 1 hour 46 minutes in. (I should clarify, this is a TWO HOUR EPISODE)
