They either don't save my favorite teams, or simply never alert me to games/plays/scores.
All I want is an app, I don't care about widgets, that'll tell me of inning/quarter ages, scores, and final score. Is that so freaking hard?

I like sportcaster, though particularly the widget is nice for keeping me up-to-date. There's also Google Now, for that matter.

It works perfectly except sometimes the HaxSync account just disappears entirely. I've had it happen twice on stock rooted GNex and there are some references to it in the app's reviews.

Edit: Actually the app description now references it too, there's a fix here which involves manually installing the APK or something:

You may want to look into the Scope Beta, though looking at it, it does not appear to have a widget. But something to try out.

This is most certainly a stretch, but does anyone know of any mono audio apps for Android? My iPhone (and newer Samsung devices) have a built-in accessibility feature that puts both audio channels into one speakerphone/headphone. I'm deaf in one ear so this is really important to me (and one of the main reasons I kept my iPhone so long). All the ones I see on Play are just for bluetooth devices when making calls. The built-in feature worked for anything on the phone, but obviously it's most important for me for the music since listening to one channel sucks.

What's the best, simplest news app? I had one on my Droid X, but it somehow got lost when I got my SGS3 and it's not even listed in my Play account.

The one I had let you choose categories and simply listed headlines from a wide variety of sources.

Most of the ones I see have grid-based layouts with big thumbnails or they don't have the categorical listings.

I tried Google Reader but it didn't seem to do the categorization thing too well, and I'm looking for something where I don't have to subscribe to a hundred different feeds to get what I'm looking for.

It's in there dude. From the player screen head into the equalizer control screen. From there select "Tone/Vol" on the bottom right. Once you've done that, there should be a "Mono" switch in the top left corner.

What you're talking about is the News and Weather widget, a.k.a. GenieWidget.apk.

There are some instructions out there on how to get it loaded on an SG3. I believe you can do it without root.

I actually started using FeedR. The genie widget just scraped Google news for each subject. You can subscribe to rss feeds of each Google news heading. You can also search for a specific term in Google news and then get an RSS feed of the news related to that term which is how the genie let you add your own topics. So I have my FeedR widget set to display the RSS feeds of the World News, Top Stories, Tech News, Science News, Tiabbi Blog and my friend's blog. Since SG3 has weather on the lock screen I haven't missed that part of it.

I don't know how widespread it is, but my Galaxy S3 has mono audio built in as an accessibility feature. It can also invert all the colours on the screen. I don't know if these features are part of Touchwiz or ICS, but my old android phone didn't have them.

I did notice that feature on the S3 and Galaxy Tab 2. I assumed it was part of ICS, but sadly learned later that it is a TouchWiz feature. I wish there was a way to flash something to enable it, but there's no info about it anywhere.

You should pay for your comics. comiXology and Dark Horse have great apps and since the N7 is too small for full page reading, you'd like their per-panel reading modes.

However, if you want to read your stolen CBR files you can grab Perfect Viewer or Komik.

Boywunda, just try all the comic apps, they're all free or have a free version. Even the big corporate ones like the Dark Horse app have free stuff that you can try it out with.

On the other hand, I do recommend against JJComics Reader because every time you start the app, open a file, or rotate the screen (and there's no rotation lock), there's a nag to pay for it even if you've already paid for it (seriously, the button options are "Donate!" "Not Now" and "Not Again").

More comic reader talk: If you have ICS or JB with onscreen buttons, you might want to check out ComicRack as it's pretty much the only reader I've seen that dims the system bar during reading. If you're annoyed by the buttons or just worried about screen burn-in, this might be the best choice for comic reading.

Looks like the developer of Dead Trigger made the app free and blames piracy for it.

In his words:

"Regarding price drop. HERE is our statement. The main reason: piracy rate on Android devices, that was unbelievably high. At first we intend to make this game available for as many people as possible – that’s why it was for as little as buck. – It was much less than 8$ for SHADOWGUN but on the other hand we didn’t dare to provide it for free, since we hadn’t got XP with free-to-play format so far. – However, even for one buck, the piracy rate is soooo giant, that we finally decided to provide DEAD TRIGGER for free. Anyway – DEAD TRIGGER is not FREEMIUM, it always was and still remains FREE-TO-PLAY, that means, all players are able to play it without IAP! We stand up for this statement, because all members of our team are playing (and enjoying) DEAD TRIGGER without IAP” Madfinger Games"

Now Slash Gear is claiming that this will harm Android and their own research backs it up that Android users are pirates.

Honestly, this all stinks of lies. The game apparently DOES have IAP to get more items or money. It also sounds like they want some advertising.

At first I was incredulous about this, but on further reflection I'm thinking that maybe they didn't communicate very well.

I mean...who cares if people pirate it? How does making it free get you more money?

However, I think the important part they left out is that there are direct costs to them with each install. I'm not familiar with whether their game has some sort of server component that they maintain, but I'm sure there are support costs involved. Returning emails from people who pirated the game and can't get it to work costs money with no return on investment.
