(Yes I'm sure I just made several gross historical errors but you get what I mean.)

Or uh... if a bunch of evil minions let Doctor Doom get killed, so they're regaining their honor by attacking some Skrulls.

Or wait I know: if a cell of Al'Queda elites is responsible for failing to protect Osama bin Laden, so they're regaining their honor by attacking Hezbollah somewhere in Iran.

Okay these analogies are horrible I'll shut up now.

The only analogy that matters for our Death Commandos is contained in their new credo: Victory is life

That's because Mechwarrior doesn't model the bullshit tabletop rules that use magic plot armor to protect the engine and rotors of helicopters and poo poo. So you're so good you break the laws of reality to blow them up.

Well, there's Wilsson's Hussars, though they're more suffering from being atrociously unlucky.

Kinda-sorta, there's also Ace Darwin's WhipIts. More of a "you never know what you get" kind of deal, though.

sarna.net posted:

Ace Darwin's WhipIts are best described as a non-traditional mercenary unit or perhaps as a loose mercenary cartel. Ace Darwin was a MechWarrior who re-formed his command every time he accepted a mercenary contract, assembling the people he could gather on Outreach and en route for individual contracts. The loosely organized unit has varied in size from six 'Mechs to two companies plus armor and aerospace fighters.

Rather than repaint their 'Mechs, "unit members" paint a pink paw on their 'Mech's heel. Darwin himself pilots a Panther he painted pink and named Pink Panther, which the unit insignia references. Although Darwin had no formal command training and relied on his charisma, the WhipIts' overall performance was good.

Congratulations! You Won.

THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN

Of course, the entire reason Ace Darwin's WhipIts ever succeeded at anything is because Ace Darwin himself has the most bullshit special ability of all time.

Whenever you can see Ace Darwin's Panther, you have to shoot at it instead of other targets.

Even if it's impossible.

Even if there's an assault 'Mech about to club you to death.

It turns out that a pink-painted Panther is so infuriating, even a thousand years into the future, that you can't help but chase it around while Yakety Sax or other appropriate music plays in the background.

Second-most. The Death Commandos can select any mech from any Inner Sphere RAT they want (without rolling, they just pick it). There's no restrictions vis a vis faction tech or anything so a company of Death Commandos can roll with literally every piece of faction-specific tech in the game in 3062. Or if you want to be a real dick you can do this:

Daishi x4
Mad Cat x4
Black Hawk x4

And just for that little extra layer of bullshit, they also ignore any special ability that affects them, so Ace Darwin's ability does nothing.

...God drat the LCAF got hosed on abilities. The best unit in the entire Inner Sphere (the 2nd Donegal) gets off-map movement and a weight modifier.

Which is exactly why playing the WhipIts is awesome. Though Ace tends to get his ride ruined rather very often due to this. Still, nothing like watching a single Panther painted in hot pink being chased by a whole company of heavies and assaults with murder in their eyes.

Oh, and given that people are talking about the A-Team:

There's actually an in-universe series in the FWL called The Bounty Hunters that's basically one huge shout-out to the A-Team. It's just a disgraced FWLM elite unit taking up the identity of the Bounty Hunter&Co instead.:allears:

The series jumped the shark post-Clan Invasion because the team was suddenly working together with a shady FWL intelligence officer against some new villains that definitely who Clanners. :v:

Not to mention the original Zeta Battalion roster.

Scrapping demolisher primes with a 2 large laser hit never got old.

Actually, I thought it was the exact opposite. The IS actually did generally well during the first part of the invasion because the clans for all their magically macguffins just couldn't adapt to conventional tactics. Once the IS pretty much pissed off the clans they pretty much forced their way through.
