AT&T's $20 300MB plan is pretty ideal for them anyway. They're still on verizon now because the coverage is still best with their dumbphone. Where they are AT&T was mostly OK except for a dead spot right where my dad works, so that killed it for them.

The phone itself they say has disappeared into the void of the refurb pool. Stories like this make me really happy that when my iPhone broke last year, I could deal with Apple instead of Verizon. If my second-hand Nexus stopped working now, I'd just be hosed. I think I would have just told them I'm done and walked out if they tried to gently caress with me like this. Did you ship the phone yourself? I probably would have had retail do it or made sure to buy insurance, but this is a pretty lovely situation.

My mom uses as much data as I do, and she was the most resistant to smartphones in the first place. With this in mind, we saved money on share everything. Four data plans makes it work.

Can one port a single line out of a 2-line family plan and convert it to an individual account? Primary Line: dumbphone Secondary: Smartphone with grandfathered unlimited plan If I were to switch the secondary line to the primary line, then port out the dumbphone what would happen? Does the plan get converted to an old style non-family individual plan? Does the smartphone line lose unlimited data?

What can I do to lower my monthly bill? My wife and I both upgraded to smartphones about 7 months ago, because there were no other options for upgrades and our old dumbphones were crapping out. We originally thought it wouldn't be too big of a deal to get data plans, and for about 1 month we actually used them. Now, we are a little upset that our monthly phone bill is $170. I recently lost my job and can't afford that much money just to make phone calls and send some texts. What options are there for us if we are both willing to go back to old dumbphones?

Naffer posted:Can one port a single line out of a 2-line family plan and convert it to an individual account? You can first convert your plan to ALP, Account Level Pricing where there isn't really a primary or secondary and keep unlimited data. Once the port-out disconnect processes you can then convert the remaining line to a 450, 900 or unlimited minute single line and keep unlimited data. The Share Everything plans are an elective transition, never forced for existing customers. The only reason you would 'lose' unlimited data is if you get contract pricing on an upgrade instead of paying full retail.

I just did this today. I was able to adb back into the phone and delete the superuser.apk (just to be sure) and i packaged it according to their directions. I took pics f every edge of the phone, and screen from angles, as well as the serial on the sim port. and when it was in the packaging. They can try and charge me for a cracked phone. Plus i have a record of visiting a verizon store with the phone as well. Im glad to replace it, even though i could have fixed it probably, as the screen had a green tint on some screens, and i have a bit of a nick on the top side frame. New one is going back into the otterbox

Today is my 2-year upgrade discount day. There's now a $30 upgrade fee? Ugh. Anyway, time to part with my Droid Pro, which did its best for the past two years despite sucking hard at all things Smart Phone. The Galaxy S III is the current ideal candidate, right?

Not that anybody here likely cares, but after a month and a half or so of spotty 4G service "unofficially" (wasn't on Verizon's coverage map) showing up around town, Verizon officially flipped the switch on 4G service for real here in my little podunk Eastern NC town of Roanoke Rapids. Strong coverage pretty much all across town. Being that we're a town of only 15-16k people, it surprised me. Sitting in my office - Not too bad...

Not too shabby at all. The best I've seen on my Razr Maxx in Gainesville, FL is 44.94 mbps down / 10.51 mbps up. When I flip my mobile hotspot button, its around 16-20 down / 6-8 up.

Best I've seen on my Gnex in the Minneapolis-St Paul area has been ~18/12. They've started to flicker on the LTE goodness in my current hometown about an hour and a half SW of the Twin Cities, so hopefully I'll see that in the next month or two.

Is it possible to use a smartphone on Verizon's network without a data plan? I know you're required to upgrade to data when purchasing a contract but can you activate an old smartphone with just voice and text?

I'm not entirely expert at this, but I'm pretty sure smartphones have a feature code that require some sort of data plan.

When Verizon's network sees your ESN it's going to know exactly which phone you're using and will force on a data plan. You can go for the not-exactly-legal practice of ESN cloning but you won't find out how to do that here.

I have an Incredible that I don't use anymore, and a GVoice number that I use for a side business. I don't do a whole lot of phone calling, mostly texting via the Voice app and emailing, and the phone basically sits on my desk at home most of the time. Paying $10/100 minutes every 120 days or when I run out seems like a better deal than trying to sort out business calls from personal on my regular phone.

Keep in mind that texting via the GVoice app needs a data connection. Texts sent through the Android Messaging app will use your carrier phone number, unless your contact texts you. Then, you'll have a unique short code to respond to.

Switching from a Galaxy Nexus to a 4S will require a trip to a store for activation since the Sims aren't compatible even though they're both Micro Sims, right? And vice versa? Also I shouldn't lose my grandfathered unlimited data going from a 4G phone to 3G, correct?

As long as you're not getting the 4s on subsidy. In a related note, I just went the other way (DROID 3 to Nexus), and had to pick up a Sim card. The woman that helped me commented on how many swaps like that they've been doing.

Has anyone been having problems with their 3G being shaky recently? I'm having trouble discerning if it's my phone or Verizon. I've got an iPhone 4 32GB and sometimes I have to enter airplane mode and then exit to get 3G to work. This isn't usually a problem since I'm always on wifi, but when I'm not, it's goddamn annoying. I should probably mention my phone was bought broken (I switched from a very, very broken HTC Trophy which was the 3rd lemon I received) and so I switched out the screen myself. The 3G antenna is definitely connected.

Dickeye posted:After finally reading about how Share Everything works and poking around on the Plan Calculator, how the gently caress does Big Red get away with this? Families with little data usage with a combination of 3+ smartphones, or families with high minute usage typically benefit from it. I see a lot of families with unlimited/2gb of data paying $30 per line and using less than 500MB all the time. Internal communications have initially stated that the individual lines would be going away, but you can still sign up for them as a new customer online and as I discovered today, in store as well. I set a dude up with the 450min/2gb/1000 txt plan today. Most people posting in this forum won't see the value in the Share Everything plans as I'm guessing they're either low minute and texting users(due to google voice) or high data users(due to 4g making watching porn on your phone doable), or both.
