why would you waste time compiling code when scripting has surpassed all compiled code except for a few edge cases that require speed

compiled code tends to be statically typed, static typing catches typos

dynamic and static typing are for weenies.

hybrid typing is where it is at http://sage.soe.ucsc.edu/

you write types, eliminates them statically, or inserts runtime checks where it can't.

compiled language dorks have such a hardon for errors. more errors. i never want my code to run

anyway i want to see a typeless programming language. now that would be a real step forward in computer science

its pretty easy to write haskell with hardly any types at all.

this all brings us back to javascript. write javascript how you want. OO? great. Functional? even better.

Jslint allows you to be as strict as you want in regards to style and code conventions. You don't need a fancy environment to do your testing either, so if something screws up just press f5 in your browser and you're seeing the latest code.

the best testing tools, designed to work with your style of coding, not enforce silly restrictions like python, and capable of rapid development. please use a javascript today.

functional languages are useful, as long as you never have to look back and understand code you wrote earlier

Aren't you the guitarist for the feed dogs?

i broke the halfway mark on code academy today, feels pretty good and feel like i'm finally getting it. i'm gonna finish everything on here and then probably explore java again with a better understanding of programming in general. whats important is the mindset developed right? all the languages do the same thing in terms of communicating to a computer but have their own ways of doing things?

khan academy has also been useful i've been going through the linear algebra part and its all making sense at least. did blow my mind thinking about how 3d graphics are just telling pixels to be different colors at certain times to create an illusion of 3d.

its also easier to fell some perverse sense of superiority when youre some master at a functional language than some java garbage thats pumped out by the millions from colleges

hmm, i want a language that has all the drawbacks of static typing without the benefits of a truly expressive type system
