Was having some problems with my N7 screen. Took it to the Asus store and they gave me a 10lb. weight to put on it when not in use. Fits my needs.

With regards to the N7 sticker, I noticed a few things.

The sticker on the tablet itself only has one serial number listed. That number does not match what shows up in the "Tablet Status" screen.

However, the sticker inside the manual/warranty card, and the sticker on the box, each have two different numbers. One of those numbers is also what is printed on the sticker on the tablet.

The other number, which is only on the warranty card and on the side of the box, does match what shows up on the info screen.

In other words save your box or warranty card, because you might need both numbers for an RMA if ASUS wants to be typical ASUS about it.

Yeah, I remember hearing about this during the Prime WiFi fiasco. Is it still a problem?

Pip-Pip old chap! Last one in is a rotten egg what what.

Yay, my N7 is shipping, only a full month after I excitedly preordered it & only a week & a half after you could walk into most stores to pick one up off the shelf with no shipping cost. Excitedly awaiting it to turn up with the screen completely separated, possibly not even in the box, with no serial numbers.

Yeah, The first thing I did when I got mine is root, and the update to 4.1.1 worked just fine after. I'm not sure if Google is in the habit of disabling root with otas, but if you have SuperSu or OTA RootKeeper installed that shouldn't be an issue.

Kynetx posted:

People talk about this, but when I actually did a search, the only thing I could come up with was Newegg refusing a return because the sticker was missing. I couldn't find any actual instance where Asus refused warranty support over the sticker. I did, however, find an instance where someone explicitly said that they had an RMA with Asus go fine even though the sticker wasn't on their tablet.

So, I'm going to say this is the internet telephone game inventing and inflating problems that aren't actually there.

For those who have rooted their N7, did you use the backup option in the program and does it work? I'd like to root in order to install the adblocker, but I've already downloaded and setup lots of apps that I'd prefer to keep.

Edit: So after trying to call Google for an exchange all day Friday and this morning with no luck and sending two emails with no response, I finally found a different contact method. For anyone looking to setup an exchange, don't even bother contacting the seller number in the Google Wallet transaction. Instead just call this number: 1-855-83-NEXUS

I immediately got a person without waiting on hold and my exchange was processed in less than 5 minutes. The girl was very nice and professional as well.

4 minutes on hold, 2 minutes on the call, didn't even want my serial number, just my email address attached to Play. Thanks for the number! I should have a replacement soon.

Was there any commonality in what it missed out? Did it keep your widgets and so on?

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm wondering if (with time) there will be a root option that doesn't wipe all your data. If that's the case I'll just wait it out.

No. You have to set up your home screen again. It just saves app data. It didn't back up a bunch of random apps and I didn't see a pattern

If you use this, maybe. Not tested it yet, and backup using Titanium Backup first, of course:

Since you'll probably need ADB installed to unlock/root whatever, can you just do an adb backup? It was added in 4.0, so it should probably work in 4.1.

Subject: Status of Your Nexus Q Pre-Order

We have an important update about your Nexus Q pre-order.

When we announced Nexus Q at Google I/O, we gave away devices to attendees for an early preview. The industrial design and hardware were met with great enthusiasm. We also heard initial feedback from users that they want Nexus Q to do even more than it does today. In response, we have decided to postpone the consumer launch of Nexus Q while we work on making it even better.

To thank you for your early interest, we'd like to extend the Nexus Q preview to our pre-order customers and send you a free device. If you had other items in your order, your credit card will be charged for those items only.

Your Nexus Q will be on its way soon and you will receive a notification and tracking number from Google Play when it ships.

The Nexus Q Team

Seriously gently caress you, Google. It's not even that much of a gesture. There couldn't be more than like what, 5 preorders?

edit: And no, I'm not trying to argue that Google should give people who preordered free Nexus 7s.

Nope, not intending to order one. It was my goony gut reaction after seeing the story pop up. I usually don't post about stuff as soon as I read it but this time I did.

You and Starrett are correct. It's a savvy (if not a bit slow) move on Google's part. I'm still just bitter about the 7's release and grousing that they're not pandering to me. :downs:

Sounds like you had plenty of time to cancel your order, why didn't you?

You're going to hate it no matter how awesome and well-glued it may be, but luck is on your side. In my area, the 8GB model is going for $250 and the 16 is $300. These are unopened, I should add. Do yourself a favor and don't check for screen lift and missing serial number stickers and you could make a healthy profit from this terrible tragedy.

Thank you for your tender loving concern but it arrived & is perfect. Android has no business being this smooth. I still sent them a proper grognard letter about my poor customer service experience. The only 2 issues I have are getting round to installing swype, and my streak being shown up for the utter slab of crap it always has been. On the plus side I think I'll replace it with a much smaller phone when I retire it now I've got this as well.

Well that case looks interesting.

Is there a PDF of the Nexus 7 Quick Start Guide anywhere? I'm stuck without it and I'm trying to unlock & root mine, and when it's restarting from the factory reset it's stuck at the search for wifi networks. So I'm trying to skip past that but there's no option to do that.

I noticed the UK play store had the 16gb n7 so I ordered one - it said to wait 2-5 business days to ship, then 2 business days for the postage. It came less than 24hrs later :) hopefully some words of confidence for those who want to cut out the middleman.
