For the most stomach churning, reach for the remote to skip it, violence, it's gotta be the rape scenes in Girl with a Dragon Tattoo. Horrific.

I enjoyed Dragon Tattoo, but I agree that the rape scene was way too graphic for my taste. Do the sequels have anything like that in them? Trying to decide whether we should watch them or not.

I flipped on the tv to that show on Sunday and it was the motivation to clean out the basement. Those shows are just so drat sad (especially when they're like that due to a loss of a child or family member :smith:)

I started watching Bronson last night, due to all the mentions of it being a Tom Hardy performance to check out. It's pretty entertaining and sad at the same time.

The sequels just have some flashbacks of the rape when Lisbeth goes to court and stuff. Nothing too graphic in the sequels. I should warn you, though, the sequels are very different movies compared to the first, focusing more on her personal life.

I actually thought the rape in Fincher's remake was more brutal/graphic, but so was her revenge scene.

That skinemax ref makes me wonder, what are some of the hardest-R movies on netflix? Could be for violence, nudity, whatever.

I guess they have unrated stuff too.

There's a horror movie that's NC-17 for violence and gore: "100 Tears". It is really, really bad in every conceivable way though.

Like, I love bad horror movies but gently caress.

The original I Spit On Your Grave is pretty hard R. Between a violent rape scene lasting VERY long, brutal castration, and other mutilations, it gets pretty raunchy and gross. I haven't seen the remake, so I can't say much about it.

If you're thinking in terms of graphic violence and cruelty that can be hard to take, I think forum favorite The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover qualifies. I find the various scenes of violence and cruelty a bit much to take.

As far as gnarly violence goes (but it's also a super excellent movie) check out I Saw the Devil. It's Korean and kind of in the vein of the revenge trilogy (oldboy etc) but I like it better than any of those.

This is pretty good. If I had to shoehorn it into an imaginary scale from Mr. Vengeance, to Old Boy, I'd put it in the middle somewhere.

My friend told me about it once, apparently its one that entirely focuses on Bruce Lee and his training, is that what the legend is born is about?? If so, then my apologizes.

Talking about Oldboy, I couldn't find anything new that I wanted to watch the other night, so I turned on Oldboy and was disappointed to find that it was dubbed into English rather than Korean with subtitles. I turned it off before the police station scene was over.

Do you like dark comedy?

Do you not mind watching 2 hours of subtitled Korean?

Then boy should you watch The Quiz Show Scandal!

Basically a group of strangers meet in a police station after a freak accident, find the last answer to a multimillion dollar quiz show, and now all have to get on the show and make it to that last question to win.

It has a lot of dark humor but also a good amount of just plain absurd silly humor that really works well blended in, and there are some pretty drat well done moments of drama to make it feel a bit more than just mindless jokes.

No, or I am too, because I absolutely hate dubbing and think there's no excuse for it. The only time I'm willing to deal with it is when I'm watching some old Bruce Lee film, and that's because it was all done by the same guy (even the women) and it's hilarious.

Fido stars Billy Connolly. If that isn't enough incentive, it stars Billy Connolly as a zombie.

I saw Fido a while back and assumed it was going to be garbage, but it was really entertaining. Like Leave It to Beaver with more zombies and less thinly veiled threats of violence from Ward Cleaver. Ward was kind of a psycho in hindsight.

Was in the mood for cheesy 80's action and watch Steel Dawn which should be subtitled, "It's all fun and games until someone breaks the windmill." It features Patrick Swayze with a hair-do that must haunt him 'til this day and makes Joe Dirt look fashionable. Steel Dawn is only remarkable in that it is completely unremarkable except it has every 80's sci-fi/action trope ever. The story is basically a post-apocalyptic remake of Shane (1953).

Secretly force socialism, communism and imperialism types of government onto the people of the United States of America.

Ended up watching God Bless America last night. It's a Bobcat Goldthwait written and directed heart-warming tale of a man sick and tired of the decline of American culture, in particular with its obsession with reality TV and entertainment. Upon receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, he snaps and embarks upon a killing spree of those deserving of his wrath. Along the way he teams up with a spunky teenage girl who is equally loathing of the state of America.

Parts of it reminded me of a more twisted version of Lost in Translation (which made a lot more sense when I read about the lead actor's family), as well as Leon the Professional and Falling Down.

I saw this a few days ago and had high hopes for it after seeing Goldthwait's World's Best Dad, but it really is just a violence/revenge fantasy set to film. I hoped it could have been more, but it's definitely not the quality of Goldthwait's last movie and falls short where it could have been great (such as if they'd been ballsy enough to pull a Funny Games and indict the audience for enjoying the killing).

Definitely can't wait to finally see Glengarry Glen Ross though. :)
