I'm super psyched for GW and that flaming sword looks pretty neat, ideally I'd want 23 HoM for the Fellblade but I guess I'd have weeks of Guild Wars ahead of me if I wanted that?

Vincent Valentine posted:

There's no fast way to get points with the Platinum edition. Basically no matter what anyone does, even if they just want 10 points, they're going to have to beat 2 of the 4 campaigns. Nightfall and Eye of the North, and then you have to do the entire Fellowship tree.

I think 8-10 points is doable, even with Prophecies. Below is a rough guide. Comments/corrections/input would be appreciated.

===========

DevilStick's Quick and Dirty Guide to Last Minute HoM Points V1.0 (8/13/2012)

"I have always depended on the kindness of strangers"
- Blanche DuBois, A Streetcar Named Desire

This guide leverages the Fellowship and Devotion sections of HoM, ignoring the Resilience and Valor sections due to expense. Following it should allow you to achieve 8-10 points in about 30 hours of play time (10 points includes the rare pet point and gold mini point), depending on speed progressing through primary quest lines. An additional two points can be had by finishing a GW chapter and obtaining a green miniature.

Achieving your goals at this point may depend greatly on the kindness of strangers for runs, free minis (especially gold/green) and the like.

Resources:

Guild Wars Wiki
Price Checking Engine

Step 1: Get some cash by selling your free Zaishen Keys and unopened birthday presents

-Create a PvP only character and talk to Tolkano in the Great Temple of Balthazar. "Register" your account
- Talk to High Priest Zhang, also in the Great temple of Balthazar. He will give you 50 free Tournament Reward Points (once per account).
- Go back to Tolkano and exchange these points for 10 Zaishen Keys.
- Sell these keys either at Kamadan (if you have Nightfall) or there in the Great temple of Balthazar. As of this writing (8/13/2012), the keys seem to go for 5K-6.5K each, so you should be able to get 50K-65K in gold.
- Sell any unopened birthday presents as well. Use the price engine above to get pricing. (You can buy a white mini for less than what you can probably get from the unopened present.)
- Save this gold for buying Cloth of the Brotherhood, a miniature (if you do not have an older account) and runs.

Step 2: Level a character (Ranger or Ranger secondary) and get them to EOTN

- For this quick and dirty guide, a ranger or ranger secondary is suggested so you can level a pet as you go and work towards the Animal Companion statue, but you could substitute a Black Widow spider run later (See Optional Step 10)
- You will probably be at 10-20 hours total play time at this point
- Transferring to EOTN requires a L10 character and access to one of the EOTN entry quests.
- A Prophecies character can hire a runner from as far as Ascalon, or (closer) Yak's Bend to skip a bunch of missions. You still need to be L10 however to access EOTN.

Step 3: Follow the beginning of the EOTN questline until you get to the Hall of Monuments and unlock Gwen and your first Monumental Tapestry piece

- You will probably be at 10-20 hours total play time at this point
- At this point, you will have unlocked three L20 EOTN heroes - Gwen, Vekk and Ogden

Step 4: Continue ONE of the EOTN quest threads until you unlock a fourth EOTN hero and a second Monumental Tapestry piece

- You will probably be at 20-30 hours total play time at this point
- If you have all three GW chapters, you have access to MOX. MOX is accessible once you reach Lion's Arch/Kaineng Center/Kamadan and requires no hero armor upgrade to be added to HoM.
- If you have MOX or plan to go for a Black Widow spider (See Optional Step 10), you can potentially skip Step 4 by buying a second Monumental Tapestry piece from a player, or leveling a second character to L10 and EOTN specifically to get the second piece.

Step 5: Get somebody to run you through the Destruction's Depths mission

- This run takes about 45 minutes
- This will give you access to the Central Transfer Chamber where you can speak to Master Armorer Kor to upgrade the armor of EOTN heroes with a Cloth of the Brotherhood.

Step 6: Buy three or four (see below) Cloth of the Brotherhood

- You need one Cloth for each L20 EOTN hero dedicated at HoM
- You can buy fewer cloth by dedicating an Animal Companion, a rare pet statue (such as the Black Widow - see Step 10) and/or MOX
- Currently the Cloth of the Brotherhood is going for 4K-6K each in units of one - you can probably negotiate a bulk discount

Step 7: Use your first Monumental Tapestry piece to unlock the Fellowship section of your HoM

- Fill it with five statues (see Step 6)
- One should be an Animal Companion statue (gives a HoM point)
- Following Optional Step 10 will allow you to dedicate the Black Widow statue and give you an additional rare pet HoM point

Step 8: Buy an UNDEDICATED miniature from another player

- If you have an old account, you may already have some of these through birthday presents
- A one white miniature will run a few thousand gold (prices may rise between now and GW2 launch)
- A purple miniature gives you no advantage over a white miniature - they count for the same in HoM
- Having at least one gold miniature will give you an additional HoM point, but appear to run 30K-65K
- Having at least one green miniature will give you a second additional HoM point, but appear to run 65K+

Step 9: Use your second Monumental Tapestry piece to unlock the Devotion section of your HoM

- Add at least one miniature (see Step 8)
- Unless you have a lot of gold or an old account, it is probably not worth going for 20 miniatures.
- Remember it's probably better to sell unopened presents and buy minis as needed.

[Optional] Step 10: Get someone to take you into the Underworld to tame the Black Widow spider

- I have seen this run advertised for 25K-30K, but you may have to use trade chat to find someone to do this
- The Black Widow will give the "rare pet" HoM point and unlock two statues in the Fellowship section - both the Black Widow statue and Animal Companion statue
- To go into the Underworld, you character needs to be Ascended, Weh No Suh or past the "Hunted!" quest, and able to get to the Temple of Ages (Prophecies), Zin Ku Corridor (Factions) or Chantry of Secrets (Nightfall)
- You will probably be at 20-40 hours of total play time by the time you are ready to do this run
- Prophecies characters can transfer over to Cantha (Factions) and become Weh No Suh much faster than completing Ascension in Prophecies
- To capture the Black Widow spider, you must be L16 and have the Charm Pet skill equipped WITH NO PET CURRENTLY TAMED
- You can turn in your current pet at the Zaishen Menagerie and get it back later with all or most of its progress intact

[Optional] Step 11: Go back and finish a chapter of GW with you main character, as time permits

- Finishing a chapter will allow you to dedicate a title in HoM and net you an additional HoM point (in the Honor section, which does not require a Monumental Tapestry piece to unlock).
- You can probably finish a chapter after 40-70 hours of total playtime (inclusive of time spent on prior steps)

So I haven't played GW in 5 years, but bought EotN after I quit - I dedicated random stuff I had on my account and ended up with this: http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=gEAAAAAAAASEAAAAAgCAAAAAAAAAAAAASKEAQAAAAAA

Apparently I sold or gave away all of my gold & rare mats, so I have all of 5 plat to my name right now. A bunch of my characters are also missing chest pieces, so I'm guessing I or a friend salvaged all the Sup. Vigors out. Of the prestige armors, my Warrior is short an Eite Kurzick chest piece, and my Ele is short an Elite Sunspear chest piece.

On the other hand, I have a bunch of minis - unfortunately I dedicated most, but I still have 12 duplicates that are undedicated, including 2 golds & 2 purples. I also found a few Everlasting Tonics that I have no idea how I got and 125 Tournament Tokens - can these be sold at all? I think I kept capping on Balth faction, and ended up spending it on these.

What are my best options as far as making up some quick points, say 25-30? How much of a time commitment can I expect?

edit: I have a 20 of every primary class except Assassin & Dervish, and virtually everything unlocked for PvP.
edit edit: It looks like I still have 1x 2nd, 2x 3rd & 2x 4th, 1x 6th birthday presents that I missed the first go-around.

One thing I would suggest is to pvp for hero skills earlier rather than later. The difference between a fully set up team and one using starter skills is massive. I think the end of nightfall would have been way more annoying if I was using henchmen or crappy heroes. As it was I rolled through gate of madness and abaddon with no issues at all.

If you have 7HPS, save your money and do this yourself. Use an ST Rit hero in place of the SoGM Rit hero and you can literally do it one handed because its that easy. Its just as easy in hard mode too.

Remember to change to /Ranger secondary. Also if you have a pet, you should turn it in to a Pet Tamer before you go into the Underworld, otherwise you cant cap your Black Widow and you will have to do the whole thing again.

Underworld quests spawn a whole bunch of bullshit so there is only one rule if you don't want to gently caress this up. Do not take any quests except for:

1) Clear the Chamber. You get this from the lost soul at the start. Do not start this quest until you run around and kill all the bulls in the starting area. This quest is easy.

2) Restoring the Monuments of Grenth. You get this from the Labyrinth Shrine which is north of the starting area. Do not take any of the other quests like Unwanted Guests the reaper offers because they spawn alot of bullshit, like bulls which are invulnerable until you kill their escorts. The only reason you take Monuments of Grenth is because it opens up all the shrines branching off the Labyrinth.

3) Wrathful Spirits. You get this from the Reaper of the Vale and upon completion you can capture your Black Widow Spider. Before you accept the quest, remember to clear away all of the coldfire nights behind the shrine. This quest is easy.

For folks that are in it for the long haul, and willing to play past GW2 launch, the much referenced 30 point guide (see above on this page) is the way to go.

I'm at 32 so I've decided to just go until I'm broke, which I think should get me to right about 40, plus maybe a bit of farming for a couple more z-keys. As such, I'm looking to buy 6 diamonds, 15 rubies, and 16 sapphires. For one point I'm better off getting a single tormented than 3 more oppressors, right? I've got 5 medals and 125 war supplies, so I figure I'll just turn that in for something and sell it. Found a person who bought an oppressor axe for 10 keys and 15e, then found another person selling an armbrace for 25e. Even if I just resell the thing I've already come out on top of those two trades.

Here's my HoM, for reference: http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=details&details=oYEAA8%2F%2F%2F%2FDAgQEAIoPAAAAAAAEAAAAAoQEIQAAAAAA
