Adding to the Pre-Orders. Deerhoof's Breakup Song is up for pre-order here: http://www.polyvinylrecords.com/store/index.php?listID=193 New song is totally awesome and different as usual. This band never disappoints on doing whatever the hell they feel like doing.

The thoroughly awesome cult movie soundtrack label Death Waltz Records just got another 15 copies of the Donnie Darko soundtrack in. http://www.deathwaltzrecordingcompany.com/shop/donnie-darko-original-score/ On that note, and as an example of how great their releases tend to be, I just ordered this: Zombie 2 OST limited to 100 copies

Turntable question: I have a Rega P2 and this Bias 2 cartridge. I also just got a new roommate, who is used to using his dad's old turntable, which had things like auto stop/lift off when the records end. Mine does not do these things. Predictable result: I noticed when leaving for work yesterday that the turntable was on, and spinning in the end grooves of a Tom Waits album. And had been for around 48 hours. This is an area I don't know a lot about. Should I assume that stylus is done? I feel like two straight days of that can't be good. If so: can I just replace that, or do I need a whole new cartridge? If I do need a cartridge, for my price range I am thinking about the Ortofon 2M Red.

Anyone got/getting this? It's Lace Curtains' debut (Coomers from Harlem's side project.) He put 3 tracks out as free mp3s and they're all great but I can't quite bring myself to buy it ($15 but I guess shipping to the UK will be alot.) Also I haven't got a good turntable/hi-fi setup right now. Anyway if anyone does get it I'd be interested to know what it's like.

alg posted:You can just replace the stylus, but it should last around 1500 hours if it's a good one. To explicitly expand on this: Your stylus doesn't wear any worse if you leave it on a locked groove for 48hrs than if you just played 48 hours separately, randomly. Subtract a little from its' expected lifespan and you're fine.

Just picked up Lee Hazlewood - The LHI Years: Singles, Nudes & Backsides (1968-71). The album art caught my attention because it features a quantity of topless women with fake mustaches. The compilation itself is terrific, with the highlight being No Train to Stockholm, and I will be purchasing more Lee Hazlewood stuff soon. His voice is just so drat awesome.
