This one was actually a bit of a damp squib. I expected it to be completely awesome but the car itself was only sorta awesome and the trip ended up filling the void. Somehow a small-block supercharged Jaguar seemed reserved. I would drive that fuckin' car, though. It'll be amazing after they have a chance to make it "reliable." edit: OK, I watched it again. That car is insane; a huge middle finger to those who covet luxury. It will only get better as they build the engine and put a proper rear axle ratio in. I love the attempted burnout in the carwash followed by a few seconds of an American flag blowing in the wind. Seat Safety Switch fucked around with this message at 04:20 on Aug 12, 2012 |

Gracefully fail I'd add but goddamn to even just have that with that kind of a pummelling is insane. Good cage (Some cages are designed to fail gracefully to act as a crumple zone, there's no real problem with that - the safety cell will still be intact(ish)) I think we are seeing the result of cars with uncompromising tarmac setups and the speeds they will now do now narrowing the margin of error too much for Pikes Peak. Before with gravel the cars would be slower (yes even Ari Vatenen in Climb Dance isn't going as fast) and have a margin of error. Make a mistake and you had a chance to recover. Now, it's looking more and more like make a mistake, you are going to have a very painful day.

Someone didnt think that one through to it's end point if that's the case - I would imagine removing your primary annual attraction that gets world wide publicity would do quite a deal of economic damage to businesses in the region. Guard rails are coming next I bet. That would have saved the EVO.

The race is a draw but Pikes Peak is a tourist trap year round. The environmentalists would love nothing more than to kill it. I'm sure there's an endangered pine tree that just cries every year when the race is held.

The progam listing for this driver had his major racing accomplishment as 4th place in BSP in the SCCA Solo II nationals. Pikes Peak ain't a parking lot in Topeka. You can see the build thread here, where the builder was told the cage was too wimpy. I guess it wasn't in the end. http://forums.evolutionm.net/motor-sports/594243-evolution-dynamics-pikes-peak-build-25.html Original cage discussion is around page 7. It's funny, the builder is all: "cage was strong enough" to the people wanting him to put in more bars, but if I was him and was thinking of doing this again, those bars sure as hell would be in there after taking part in this type of wreck. Luck played a major factor here. Blooot fucked around with this message at 16:58 on Aug 14, 2012 |
