For those digging Duncan and Joe podcasting, Joe has showed up for Duncan's podcast twice now. As well as Joe Diaz, Burt, and a fair few other interesting folks such as Artosis of Starcraft 2 fame and the drummer from the stoner metal band Om.

They did, and ZeroDays even posted the link to the bits that Redban cut out of the iTunes/RSS version.

I had a douche chilley moment when he screamed re: iraq and afghanistan "those soldiers are over there fighting for our freedom!!!", but yeah as a disclaimer I know we don't listen to Joey for political advice, but it is a little disappointing to hear someone have such bad opinions.

I say this cause I've seen way too many comedy threads get into huge retarded debates with people getting way too angry about hosts' political views vs it's just a comedy show!!!

You should understand his concern though. It's not the Mars Rover's fault or NASA's fault or whatever, but we do live in a society where capital is accumulated by dispossession, imperialism and exploitation and allocated irrationally & unfairly -- rather than getting mad about possible impending doom, literal millions of people losing their homes and job and others getting worked to the bone, people are pacified by technofetishist bread and circuses. In fact, consumption of this stuff has become an important economic motor of sorts.

Personally, I disagree with the details of his points and agree with you that he's shown himself in the past to be a shallow thinker. His comments about his kids having to go to school with Arabs or whatever he said really put me off, too, trust me. But the general tendency of his outburst on that show had me agreeing with him due to it coming across as genuine (and to an extent: conscious, necessary, and so on). Although he likely does not fit this stereotype, I could've imagined any father of children, struggling to keep his home and feed his kids, making the same argument. Rational? Probably not. Reducible past his racism into a point about the financial crisis and capitalism? I think so, even if he isn't aware of it himself.

Who cares what bullshit he spouts when he's high as gently caress? He's a funny guy and that's why I like listening to him. Anyway, it's hard to take his beliefs seriously when he's so contradictory half the time:

:350: who gives a gently caress about the future Joe Rogan, we'll be dead!

It's just ill-thought out verbal diarrhea, which is precisely what makes him funny (when it's crude rather than political).

You're probably either talking about Duncan Trussell or Daniele Bollelli, who both completely rule and you should check out every ep they've done.

e to add: Bollelli has been a guest on the Duncan Trussell Family Hour twice and those 2 episodes are loving magical.

This is correct. The Family Hour episodes with Bollelli have been my stand-out favourites, since Duncan brings out the best in him and plays to his strengths. The opposite can be said of Rogan, IMHO, and the JREs with him are basically a waste of an articulate guest. Poop fart buttholes.

I hope not. Watching an insufferable cat-meme-fetishist man-child take cowardly tangential digs at an enemy-felating holier-than-thou hippy is not my idea of entertainment.

I don't want Duncan episodes to be about Brian/drama, and I'm about 100% sure Duncan doesn't, so whatever happens, I'm sure the nonsense will be behind them (despite Brian for some reason taking pot-shots these last few episodes).

what did everyone think of the Jamie Kilstein episode? SA is a real hotbed for people who feel strongly about social justice stuff, and they got into a pretty huge shitfit over Daniel Tosh, rape jokes, and what have you. Even though Rogan perhaps was being lovely with his point of view, Jamie Kilstein could not have possibly argued his points any worse.

I'm 1 hour 39 minutes into the Kilstein episode. Joe Rogan has some pretty atrocious views on stuff, but what do you expect from a meathead.

I've argued some of Kilstein's positions before. Any leftist worth his or her salt would feel very uncomfortable in the situation that Kilstein is in. He's arguing against what's basically a fascist drug peddling quack enamored with the noble savage myth, that trots out tired arguments to the tune of 'Cops Are Great' and 'Welfare Queens!' as a response to Kilstein's reasonable proposals to crack down on financial gambling and exploitation of labor.

Joe Rogan is the type of dude that advocates and exuberantly calls for tazing a man who runs onto a sports field in fear of this behavior becoming a categorical imperative, but in light of a tongue-in-cheek fight callout of a disgusting, fat, goony, islamophobic neoliberal idiot, he assumes this hilarious jedi master demeanor and talks about jiu jitsu like it's some bushido poo poo. Don't have a fair fight with the war monger! Violence against someone you disagree with is bad! Possibly fatal violence against a guy that might slow down your sports game though, that's A-OK.

Kilstein's bitten his tongue on many an occasion throughout the podcast so far, and I'm sure it won't be the last, as I continue to listen. If his arguments aren't resonating well, it's probably because he has to contain himself from ripping his hair out.

Jamie Kilstein came off as an effete, milquetoast idiot. I only listed to an hour and a half of the podcast, but whenever Rogan attacked Kilstein's points, Kilstein simply gave up and agreed with Joe.

I touched upon the same things you did, man, only I ascribed them to the fact that he's on a friend's podcast and not because he's basically a liberal. This guy brought up involvement in Occupy and that he was 'socialist-y' and you could hear Rogan just go 'mmhmm' in incredulity after that.

Maybe I'm giving Kilstein too big of a benefit of the doubt here and you may be right. It's just my interpretation of what went on.

indoflaven posted:

I may have overdone it on the theatrics and my apologies for making it seem I'm some kind of weirdo, but here's what prompted that post.

Rogan's favorite line of reasoning to describe things that are Bad is 'it's against evolution, man!'. He goes into tirades where he misunderstands the notion of evolution and then applies it to society. Competition, another one of those things that he actually mentioned in the Kilstein episode. He thinks it's an important aspect of how people and societies, 'tribes' as he calls them, should work. If I were to talk to this guy about social policy I'd first have to make him concede an exception in his view for, like, the mentally challenged, the disabled etc. This dude basically advocates social darwinism and he should be called on it. This is why I think that Kilstein came across as powerless and just let it all slide: he'd have to go into the very foundation of Rogan's belief system to make even a dent.

He has a hardon for authoritarian figures and can't wait to praise them into high heaven. He does so in the same breath in which he describes the macing of kids at UC Davis, or his father viciously beating up a teenager, etc.. He has been reminded of police brutality constantly yet doesn't even understand Kilstein's soft liberal argument about there something being broken about the institution. It boils back to a few bad apples for him.

His entire profession and life have come to revolve around objectified and glorified violence. I'm not just talking about the fighting, his jiu jitsu or the UFC or whatever. He literally said that he is in favor of tasing people who do mildly annoying things so that he can teach others a lesson and deter them from doing the same. This is just from the last episode. Then there's his opinion on rape jokes, on women and men and gender, etc. etc.

It wouldn't be necessary to make a big deal out of this if it weren't for Rogan being of the most downloaded/followed podcasts around according to Stitcher dot com. I think calling him on some of his lovely beliefs is a good thing. That said, his podcast is still entertaining to listen to.
