THE RESERVED LIST! THE RESERVED LIST! I CANNOT SHUT UP ABOUT THE RESERVED LIST!
Confirming that Bones are awesome and I want more and more of them. Granted I'm still not interested in 99% of the sculpts (what am I going to do with a dwarf cleric?) but since Reaper doesn't come to me personally asking which models they should Bones-ify first, I'll settle for just having a ginormous catalog to choose from.

Never looked at the new GW kits but speaking as some one who builds historical aircraft kits it's probably hosed. It seems like many people are finding canopies hard. It should really be the last thing you add after finishing the main model with final varnish coat and then glued with PVA or ideally specialist none fogging glue. (Not super glue.)

But I could be wrong with this one and a shot of gloss varnish is your best next step.

Reaper was casting accurate, reasonably high quality miniatures when GW was still making lead bricks that didn't fit together right as tanks and charging twice as much. I'd take a lovely reaper plastic, sight unseen over a GW anything, and the only thing I'd think twice about is that sometimes GW sculpts are way way way better than reaper ones.

I wish GW would kill themselves in a Jonestown style massacre, leave their IP to Relic and Steve Jackson, and leave their miniatures and facilities to reaper.

Reaper miniatures may look like they have oven mitts for hands. They may look like a squirrel is attacking some girl's butt while she dislocates her shoulder trying to swing her broadsword. They may even look like a mollusk is jerking off in the shower while sitting on a hemarrhoid donut. But the quality of those experiences is impeccable. And they're generally dynamically posed while still being cast in one or two pieces.

There wouldn't be a hobby if not for reaper miniatures, and you shouldn't skepticize them. Their unskepticiclyable.

Every single Cosmic Muffet post is a treasure and should be preserved for future generations. :allears:

Also I just found out Zombicide is selling for a hilarious amount on Ebay, so I'm gonna hock my copy there instead and buy a couple Bones sets if it sells for more than 200.

Gloss varnish brushed on might fix it, then a brushed on coat of matte varnish. Worth a try anyway.

Guys,

I did a thing.

Oh man. Ok. So, I painted up the Thagrosh2 I've had around since MkII dropped. The airbrush finally let me just basecoat like I could sneeze color onto him. This and dipping has made me less fearful about tackling the vast queue of minis I have in my house.
So, I painted him:

and I was all "neat, he looks pretty bad rear end, maybe I should do Legion next!"

I didn't Oath Thagrosh2, though. I painted that mini so I could paint these for you.

Yeah, dat draconic rear end. WAIT I MEAN

So, I finished them, and they didn't feel "done," you know?

I...I...

So yeah, OATH COMPLETE! BUT AT WHAT COST?!

Also, I think I'll enter them all as a battlegroup for PP's painting competition just for laughs.

Speaking of super-glue frosting, is there anything I can soak a (metal) model in that will get it off?

Acetone will dissolve some plastics, but not others. I don't know whether GW plastics are acetone safe. Resin probably isn't.

Petrol, kerosene, and acetone are nonpolar organic molecules, if acetone dissolves superglue, the chances are kerosene and gas will too.

http://www.ridoutplastics.com/faq.html#Sticker

The recommendation, here, more or less is to use refined kerosene (lighter fluid) to dissolve the gunk off plastic. Presumably there is a concentration at which your plastic will be screwed, and a concentration at which it will be fine.

Some manufacturers of plastics use acetone bathes to polish the plastic components they're making. That implies that you could get the crap off, and, if careful and not too forceful, still have a reasonably clear surface.

That's all for the benefit of the other people who were asking.

Metal, obviously, will be fine.

This is as good a place as any to ask:

So, for anyone that has gotten in on the Reaper Bones kickstarter, I have a story and a question.
First, the story--I do not have $100.00 to spend on a fuckload of awesome miniatures, as much as I'd love to do so. What I do have is $10.00 laying about.
So, my question is this: if anyone wants to let me send them :10bux:, I'd love a pair of those fire giants. I'll also chip in the price for a flat-rate box or something!

If anyone is feeling generous, please PM me or shoot me an e-mail at SASole.Sushi @ gmail dot com.

The options thing was a little confusing to me, but it sounds like you don't actually pick the options now. You pledge all the money (i.e. pick your pledge level, and add on the amount needed to cover your options) and later, when the whole thing is over, they'll send out a survey or something where you decide what options you want.

Just total it up, set your thing to vampire. When the KS is over, they will send out a survey asking what you want to spend the extra dough on.

Is there a large number of people buying Bones sets here? I was thinking we could possibly setup a "swap shop" - for example, I would really like some extras of specific monsters (Worm, that bug thing), but won't have any desire for a lot of the minis.

But if people only want a particular few models, it's pretty dumb to pre-order the whole set.

Reaper is being pretty smart about this thing, I've gotta say. They're taking advantage of the natural mini hobbyist tendency to covet and hoard a bunch of models they will never actually do anything with.

Trying out a 1/72 scale. 25mm high. Working with measurements to a new scale I've come to note that I've had considerable scale creep on the heads of my figures. They're HUGE. I want to do another 1/64 and I want to do also a 1/35. I've started on them but not anything to show yet.

Hey Hellbeard, your sculpting is looking pretty sweet. Why did you decide to go smaller scale though, that seems the the size would make it a lot more frustrating to work on.
