So the new Yeasayer album was streamed for a few days... Amazing. Much more electronically based, and I feel a little less bipolar. But so far, IT IS AMAZING. Definitely the most consistent. They had a visual little website thing going but it is gone now! Here is my favorite track so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo4rbhR_vsk The synth line at the end is amazing. Can't get enough.

Car Seat Headrest's new album Monomania is out now on bandcamp. As gobbledygoat already posted about my music a couple pages ago, I figure it's relevant? I was convinced to promote Romantic Theory and Souls as the 'lead singles' but I think Los Borrachos is still secretly my favorite.

I later read that they were, and here, months later, this track. I completely agree with you as far as lacking a good hook, but maybe it will find its own moment on some lonely late night. I know I've posted about Matthew Dear before but I didn't get any replies, so here's to trying again. I've been following his career closely since I came across his work under the name Audion back in 2008. I'm in constant awe at Dear's handle on making songs that sound subtly strange and off-kilter but poppy and addictive, like staring at a picture of Charlotte Gainsbourg and slowly getting an erection. His newest LP, Beams, is set to drop later this month and I can't remember the last time I've been this excited about a release. Here's a teaser for the new album detailing the process behind the cover art. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1Z1G8lB3Mw The first single from the new album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7GB8IJs6ic Dear taking a tape recorder on the street in Brooklyn and creating a song from scratch (and it actually doesn't suck) as featured on Jay-Z's blog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIb1i8HzYkk pathetic gbs homo fucked around with this message at 23:18 on Aug 5, 2012 |

A friend turned me on to Flying Machines. Their apparent biggest hit was the song On a Whim. They're a pop/rock band. Also, Good Old War is pretty good stuff. Real solid acoustic guitar and instrumental work, and really catchy lyrics and melodies. Smith Westerns have this phenomenal, funky guitar lead that's almost a second vocal. They're upbeat, but with that dreamy sort of lyrical and vocal delivery. I love Weekend and Imagine Pt. 3.

Fang Island released a new album. Not sure how I feel about it yet but I'll give it some time. Their sophomore album was amazing to me but this one doesn't have as much that stands out. It's a pretty formulaic song structure with not as many surprises, but it's loving happy harmonic rock.

I book for a music venue called The Bottleneck, recently we put together a really great show with a group called Cloud Dog. Combining the help of a local sound company we placed speakers in a 360 formation, which was then manipulated by the front man to give an experience ranging from a "standard show" to "swirling" effect. The band consists of three members playing drums the vocalist also has two samplers;this seems to create a very effect. In addition there were projections, large crystal figures, and people stationed to paint tribal makeup on anyone who wanted it. Here's a video they released shortly after the show, using footage from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH7mhDbnmqg They're latest release REALMS is up for stream on their Sound Cloud page. http://soundcloud.com/clouddog I know they're working on a tour through the midwest at the beginning of October, but no dates have been officially released. My apologies if they've already been mentioned. http://youtu.be/7Tz9PE439u0 http://youtu.be/b3qU1aJwe58 Unfortunately they don't have an EP out yet, but I like both of their singles a lot. Not sure exactly which bands to compare them to, and I'm terrible at discussing music, but I think they have a lot of potential, and Your Words is especially beautiful.

This is my first time reading through the thread and I can't wait to check out some of these bands you guys have posted. I made a list and errythang! I'm stoked to share with you guys some of my favorite finds. I Heart Hiroshima- http://youtu.be/5QIJbUhABT4 A Brisbane, Australia based trio offers a pretty good spread of music. Not having a bassist is pretty cool, I really dig their sound. I can't really compare them to anything else I've listened to, sorry. I don't think they've put out anything new since 2009 and I'm really hoping they do more. Lemolo- http://youtu.be/1F_0uh__wgI Kickass Seattle duo. I couldn't find any of their tracks on youtube except for their live radio recordings, which are quite excellent. They sound like a dreamier, toned down version of Lovers. My absolute favorite bands are Murder City Devils, HORSE the band and Rural Alberta Advantage. Anyone able to suggest something in a similar-ish vein?

If you like/love Super Furry Animals, listen to Cian Ciaran's Outside In. He's SFA's keyboard player and he sings songs like "Cabin Fever," "Walk You Home" and "Mountain." I can't get enough of the album. It's the next best thing to an actual SFA album or another Gruff solo LP. He's also got another one coming early next year, so I've got that to look forward to.

A bit late on this, but Crystal Stilts are a pretty good band and "Shake The Shackles" is an absurdly great song. It's been on repeat for awhile now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJoMTgANXPc It's like a more poppy Joy Division, I guess. I dunno, but it's god drat catchy whatever it is; that jangly guitar riff hits you at the outset, then the way it just crashes down into the chorus is...yeah I really like this song. The rest of their latest, In Love With Oblivion, is good as well; hazy lo-fi psychedelic rock/pop, basically. If you like good music give them a listen because I think they make good music!

Both Guto and Daf play on Cian's album and Cian mixed songs for Guto's new band, Gulp. Gruff and Bunf are the two who've kind of gone their own way for now. Is that the first video to feature any member of the band so prominently? I didn't realize "Applesauce" was making the rounds, thanks for the heads up. It is also fantastic. Like with the above poster's comparison to "Water Curses," the album seems to be headed more in the direction of Strawberry Jam than Merriweather Post Pavilion. While I love MPP, ultimately I find myself more drawn to the more erratic songs of Feels/Strawberry Jam. Really looking forward to the full stream on Sunday!

What do you guys think about the last Hot Chip? I don't think i've seen anything about it yet in the thread. A few years ago the idea of a "mature" sounding Hot Chip album would be a little depressing, but I think they really nail it here. It lacks some of the wit and playfulness of their earlier albums, but all of the songs are just really well crafted. For sure, "Night and Day" and "Flutes" are probably the best songs on it, but the latter half grows on me more and more everytime I hear listen to it.
