Probably a long shot, but does anyone know any non-English films about funeral directors/morticians? Hell, it could even be a gravedigger or a medical examiner if we're going for vaguely related. I just rewatched Departures for the fourth or fifth time and while it's one of my favorite films, I'd like to see more in the same vein. I've seen pretty much everything related on the subject in English (television and film), but recs for those are welcome too if you know something obscure.

This is the weirdest request I have responded to but here goes. Post Mortem (2010) is a great low-key Chilean film where the main character is an assistant at a morgue during the Pinochet military coup. The guy is not personally a mortician, he is just supposed to take autopsy notes, but, uh, corpse examination is fairly pivotal if not the total focus of it. If that helps.

Bernie (Richard Linklater, 2012) Don't be put off by the fact that it stars Jack Black, it's not a wacky comedy and it was very well-received critically. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bernie_2011/

The Cremator The Marathon Family I don't think either of these are exactly what you're looking for, but they're both v. good non-english films about the funeral game. Also the Coffin Joe movies.

How about documentaries about literary, artistic, musical figures? Specifically ones that have suffered mental disease or substance abuse, but still managed to produce great work. Ones I've seen include The Devil and Daniel Johnston and Bukowski: Born Into This The mental abnormality part is not necessary, but it does make me that much more intrigued by the story.

Cemetary Man, or Dellamorte Dellamore, is an italian horror/comedy about a cemetary custodian and all the whacky hijinks he gets into. Not exactly what you're looking for, but it's a fun watch.

Can anyone recommend me some cool modern martial arts flicks? I recently saw The Raid and absolutely loved it, so anything else in that vein. Bonus points if there's a bad English dub available. It just ain't kung fu without crappy lip synching. Also looking for any indie or lesser known comedies. The weirder the better. Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil is a good example. Need not be about anything in particular. Just looking to think "woah, that's pretty hosed up" several times while viewing. Thanks! ----------------

Edit, sorry I completely missed the part where you said documentary. American Splendor does feature a cameo by the real Harvey Pekar though.

Can someone suggest some contemporary - say 90s to now - German films that aren't to do with some kind of war (world, cold or otherwise)? I just got Run Lola Run from Amazon and in their newsletter, every recommended German film is Downfall, The Liver of Others and that sort of thing and while I have a few and they are good, surely there's more. Like, what is a good German action movie or romance?

Mostly Martha is a lighter romantic comedy, and Anatomie is a lovely but fun horror movie.

So awhile back when I asked for some really radical political films I got some really good suggestions. I still need to watch Punishment Park and The Spook Who Sat By The Door but I loved all the rest. Anyone know of anymore? Basically, I'm looking for super political films. I've already watched Salt of the Earth, and I have Act of Valor and Triumph of the Will on my to watch list. Liberal, Conservative, Socialist, Anarchist, whatever. Any country too.

A friend tried to convince me that Varsity Blues was a pro- Anarchy movie (big A, like Emma Goldman) . There's also a movie that I can't remember if it's a documentary or re-creation, but it's about a high school civics teacher who turns his class into fascists pretty easily. It's a true story either way, I believe it's called The Wave, or something similar, that was the name of their fascist school club at least.

Just looked it up, it was a 45 minute short called The Wave made in 1981, there's apparently a German film of the same name based on the same story made in 2008. Also seconding Godard, Masculin Feminine immediately to mind.
