Long Trail Ale is a pretty accessible alt that sees good distribution. That fruity character is only a little less prominent than the Longshot Derf's.

Whoever (bartolimu?) recommended Uinta's Baba Black Lager knows their poo poo. Lots of roast and malt character for a lager, and only 4% to boot. Impressive! Then I had a moment of divine inspiration and made a black & tan with Full Nelson, which I highly recommend trying if you have access to both. The transition between layers is a lot smoother and more pleasant than most black & tans I've had. Pretty drat delicious. Also tried Uinta's Punk'n. I'll have to do a side-by-side, but it tasted like a slightly watered down DFH Punkin. Aptly named as it turns out. Not a fantastic beer, as it's another entry into the rather played-out pumpkin-pie-in-a-bottle school of autumn beers, but not terrible. Just a little lacking in the mouthfeel department. Might wanna pass on this one. Lastly, I had a pint of Blue Mountain's Dark Hollow on tap the other day. Having tasted it a few times a month or two previously, it was interesting to come back and see that it'd developed a taste not unlike my halfway botched homebrew RIS. It's hard to describe it as anything other than an off-wood flavor. Lactic maybe? I'll have to pop a bottle of my homebrew and see if I can get a better read on it. Seeing as how Blue Mountain had some issues with one of their other brews from their Barrel House series, there might be some issues down the road if it's not the taplines or my finicky tastebuds.

For Chicagoans looking to try Enjoy By, beermenus is showing it on tap at Maria's in Bridgeport. Also of note: Lunar has Kosmonaut. I had the barrel-aged version last December and it was fantastic.

Drinking a New England Brewing Co Coriolis right now and wow, moving to CT sucks in a lot of ways, but at least we have this brewery. They really know what they're doing. I don't think I've ever had nelson sauvin hops before this beer, and I have to say I really enjoy the profile of this hop

Novice cellaring question. A friend of mine brought over a 4 pack of Founders Devil Dancer, we each had one and did not love it...too much booze, not enough balance, but the label says it ages well. They were in the fridge, now I want to cellar the other two bottles, is it okay to transfer this to my cellar (which is a kitchen cabinet with a bottle of DFH 120 in it) or is temperature fluctuation bad for this kind of beer. I have heard that temperature fluctuation hurts beer but I have also heard that this is overstated. Also the case says "keep refrigerated" but so do all Founders cases. Thoughts?

broom posted:Novice cellaring question. 99.9% of the time, a beer is released as a finished product for immediate consumption (even the ones that age well), so keeping it cold is about maintaining freshness. a few mild temperature changes, as said above, aren't gonna do any harm, but warm storage will age the beer much faster than cold. the main thing, though, is to keep it somewhere dark and relatively cool.

I know this is the beer they temporarily retired Gandhi Bot to start making. GBot is going to come back but not for a while, they want to use their limited production facilities to start making more and different things. Since I can still buy cans of fresh Elm City Pilsner and Sea Hag IPA, I'm not really mad at them. But man I have to get some of the Coriolis.

I suspect it will start popping up in bars pretty soon, but if FBD was any indication, this will go pretty quickly. Eh, it was a novelty. I wouldn't buy it again but I got a kick out of it and the bottle is truly hilarious on my shelf now. Found Bell's Two Hearted Ale for the first time locally and was pretty impressed with it, although it was rather pricey. Pretty sure that's the only beer I've ever had from Michigan.
