bleedbackwards posted:Thanks for posting these guys. I had never heard of them but I went back and listened to Siberian Nightmare Machine and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Spotify says they're "inspired by a combination of hardcore punk, hip-hop, and death metal" which is pretty odd. Artist descriptions are almost always bullshit. The band popped up when I was listening to random songs on Last.FM and they really resonated with me. Their album prior to Siberian Nightmare Machine is titled Heat and it's also really good. Solid band.

"Shadows Are Security" was one of my favorite albums way back in in high school...Really good stuff. The opening two tracks (Confined/Meaning In Tragedy) really start off the whole album with a bang. I'm sure Misery Signals has been mentioned a lot here, but I really just got into them several months ago, and wow -- this is an amazing band. Easily the best metalcore vocals I think I've ever heard. Grating, hard, and the music is fantastic. The lyrics are pretty deep, too. "Parallels," "Coma," and "Ebb & Flow" are probably my favorite tracks besides "Sword of Eyes," which is just awesome.

Controller is one of my favorite metal/hardcore albums of all time. The vocalist just released his side project "Solace" a few days ago. I'm actually listening to it for the first time right now and so far it's like a mellower version of Controller, so I'm digging it. Same style vocals and everything. https://www.facebook.com/SolaceCANADA

Karl is a fantastic vocalist, especially when you consider he was a fan who dubbed over some old tracks and sent in an audition tape to get the job. But you should really check out their debut Of Malice and the Magnum Heart if you haven't already (hopefully you have). IMO one of the best metalcore releases ever, and Jesse Zaraska (their original vocalist) is right at the top of vocalists for me just because of the emotion he puts into everything. (Possibly caused by two of his bandmates in Compromise being tragically killed in a van accident that he lived through just a year or two before helping form Misery Signals. "The Year Summer Ended in June" is possibly their best song and written about that event.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peGTTjZBODw SteelFusion fucked around with this message at 07:31 on Aug 17, 2012 |

Yeah mayne, that song gets me every time. I love that tape and its awesomeness is a large part of the reason why I didn't care for Mirrors all that much. It's simply not as good! I HOPE YOU KNOW I TRIED TO FIND THOSE PICTURES JORDO

I don't remember where but I saw Misery Signals years ago where they announced they were retiring The Year Summer Ended in June and I figured it made sense since it was a personal song for the band and the old singer wasn't even in the band anymore, etc. Then they played on a tour again about a year ago after a long hiatus and they played the song again. Everyone was stoked (it's a good song) but I was disappointed they didn't stick to their guns with retiring it.

The emotion on Of Malice is simply cray but Karl owns too, my favorite example of him blasting straight up emotion is his vocals toward the end of "Sword of Eyes" where he's all "THE PAST WILL LAY DEAD, WHEN THE PRESENT IS SLAIN BY THE SWORD OF EYESSSSS"...,,

Last time I saw them some kid in the audience would shout for them to play it in between every song. When their set was over Karl hoped down off the stage and told the kid "Hey, sorry we didn't play it, but that's not my song. It's really personal to those guys and it wouldn't be right for me to sing."

Karl does leave out some of the really personal lyrics though. SteelFusion fucked around with this message at 20:39 on Aug 21, 2012 |

I think my favorite metalcore vocalist is easily Sean Ingram from Coalesce. Even though I am a self-admitting fanboy for the band, I think his vocals really rounded out their extremely heavy, noisy, and groovy sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok1xlFFm0aI

The Solace album has really grown on me over the past few days. Naive is a great song and the part at 1:40 where the chimes come in is metalcore majesty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z4oz1bM74M

Does The Chariot belong in here? Because they just released an album today (yesterday?) and it loving owns. I didn't really love their previous album, but, holy poo poo, is this one good. It was also announced today that they'd be touring with Stray From The Path, Reign Supreme, Counterparts, and Gideon. The best part is they're actually playing in my town (and, less than a mile from my apartment)!

If I think The Chariot works in small doses and have some really sweet bits, but it's hard for me to work my way through an entire album, will One Wing be the one to change my mind?

Yes, because that is EXACTLY how I felt about them up until now. I've respected what they do, but couldn't listen to more than a song or two at a time. I listen all the way through One Wing twice last night, back to back.

This tour is playing a 15 minute walk from my apartment and the venue is DANGEROUSLY tiny. It's smaller than the venue I saw them at when they were touring on Hot drat! and I'm a mix of excited and terrified. I just hope I have the money to drop on tickets before it sells out. I haven't seen ETID in 6 years and they were the first hardcore show I ever went to maybe 8-9 years ago. I miss the days when I took a line up like ETID, Misery Signals, and With Honor for granted.
