Peaches' personal protege has been learning Kid Chameleon and is new to the scene. You should do him and peaches a personal favor and check him out. He's not the greatest yet; he's still learning, but it will be entertaining! http://www.twitch.tv/iateyourpie Also, I've picked up Blast Corps recently and am still honing my skills. I'm playing on emulator until I can get a capture card, and I'm doing races/IA time attacks/casual gaming. I've pretty much stopped OoT but may pick it up again if I ever have the time. I need viewers too, show me some love <3. http://www.twitch.tv/tbrx Ace Attorney fucked around with this message at 05:29 on Sep 2, 2012 |

It took him literally an entire month playing 10 hours a day to finally put together a 1:44 run. How on earth does he expect to beat that by a full minute?

I'd like to say he's not giving it up entirely because he's poured so much time into the game and obviously loves playing it, and that doesn't stop because a personal record has been set. I'd like to say he's going to go through with his intended plan of learning Sunshine and playing SM64 casually seeing if he gets the stars aligned. I'd like to say all that, but actually what's going to happen is we're gonna see the announcement of an October marathon a week from now.

pixaal posted:He sees the imperfections and hates them, he must run it flawlessly! Its some type of OCD probably. There's seems like two different categories of speedrunners: those who are just good at the game and throw a solid time up and feel satisfied and those who literally can't see past the flaws and the potential time they could have. It's never "holy poo poo, you got the luckiest layout and you performed a pixel perfect jump that just days prior was proclaimed TAS-only" only "I had to jump twice in world 2-x and my Gannon hookshot could be tighter. Three to four seconds easily lost". I love them for it, but they're probably in need of help at some point in the future.

I don't really see the problem here. Dude wants to cut over a minute from his run and he's perfectly capable of doing that where he is right now. At the level he's at, there's not really any reason to stop getting better.

fleshweasel posted:Honestly, how else do you get to the point of executing that stuff? Reading a lot of the author comments on SDA speedruns over the years, I was getting the impression that a fair number were of the former category. Some were quite helpful to their successors by documenting the areas that time could be saved but they had some level of satisfaction with the run they posted. I'm under no illusion that they didn't do a ton of runs to get the one they posted, but the level of dedication I've seen on the Wind Waker and SM64 stuff this summer has me amazed. Especially since in both cases the runs are over an hour in length which requires amazing endurance and the ability to perform near flawlessly for a long rear end time at a stretch. I still remember the first time I saw a singe segment Mario 64 run that I couldn't believe was done in one sitting. It was so close to flawless. And that one was like 2 hours and 45 minutes or something.

Speaking of Wind Waker, I heard earlier that abahbob found a way to get the Storage Glitch that doesn't require the Forest Water timer. That seems like something that could potentially break the game even more than before.

When Cosmo was on TSSB for Wind Waker, he mentioned that the only seemingly viable way to do barrier skip involved Storage Glitch, but there was a door missing (I think) that meant even that couldn't work. I have a feeling it won't get to that level because of that one condition alone.
