For ARMS (Atlantic canada), slalom is the correct term. Not sure about the rest of Canada. Until recently we didn't even use scca classing. I'm not a fan, it really splinters the classes out here too much.

I think Solo I, Solo II, and Rallycross are the branding terms SCCA put on the events that you've described. Solo I being on a track instead of a parking lot.

SCCA dumped the I & II several years ago, it's just "Solo" now.

The Solo I stuff got rolled up into the road race group, I forget what they call it now, and Autocross is just Solo.

ProSolo is completely different. It is run with two cars on a Christmas-tree drag race start on mirror image courses, with competitors doing multiple runs on both sides in fairly quick succession, and your best time on each side counting. Unlike regular autocross, your time starts when the light goes green, so reaction time and launch are a big factor.

Solo 1 was basically time trials, and as far as I know, they still call it time trials in the Club division

Whiskas got one of those hitch T-bars that holds the wheels.

Most guys who want to bring tires with them have a small homemade single axle trailer. Usually something big enough for a small toolbox and 4 tires.

I wish I could find the picture I saw a few years ago on the S2ki forums of a guy towing a full size speedboat with his S2000.

I could go on forever about how awesome the S2000 is. Instead I'll just say this. Every person I have talked to who has ever owned an S2000 has told me they regretted selling it. And roughly 25% of those people followed up that statement by saying they ended up buying themselves another one. I've had mine for almost 4 years and don't see myself selling it in the near future.

Even the guy I bought it from told me he regretted selling it, hahaha.

Nice vids. We had 2 local guys running - a white EVO IV that sounds like it's going to explode, and a black focus driven by an old guy. Apparently in 2014 the championships will be coming back to the maritimes, I'm excited for that.

The only good video I got this year was from when my radiator decided to explode. Mounting in front of the intake seems to make my car sound much better than it does in real life.

Unfortunately, that's only a once per year event. The rent out the summerside airport in PEI for 3 days and run the course on the concrete apron. Most of the other events are run in parking lots, or an old airstrip.

This is the parking lot we've had half the events on this year:

Thanks! I marshaled with the old guy driving the focus - he's a really good driver. I remember that Evo, it sounded like a bat out of hell.

Speaking of exploding, we had one subaru develop some serious rod knock, another subaru spun a bearing, a miata got stuck in first, and an integra GSR broke an axle, all on the test and tune day. The best part about autocross? About 6 of us helped change the axle, and the other 3 drivers found co-drives for the 2 competition days.

We were talking about the next time it winds up out east, and I'm probably going to make the trip out to the maritimes when it comes back. It'd be such a nice drive out there, and it was such an amazing event.

NE-SVT, BSCC, and TCUSA. I keep meaning to do BMWCCA and NER but I'm generally busy the weekends they run.

Also I borrowed the Z06 again, this time I went with racing stripes:

I came in 1st (out of 2 :ssh:) in the Corvette Street Tire class and got a Corvette Club hat as a prize which I gave to the Z06 owner. During the runs we were joking about how much time I was getting from the stripes, I beat 2nd by ~4seconds so we settled on that.

Also an FRS showed up and was wearing direzzas. It was running midpack times but I don't think the driver has been doing autox very long as his times were slower for that type of tire. Also it was a lesson in driver vs. car as it lost to a rental Sentra with a CVT and a very very good driver

Not really, NE-SVT/BSCC/TCUSA all pretty much use the exact same format and are more laid back. The biggest difference between those clubs are what classes they have and that NE-SVT brings lunch which is why it is the only one with the membership fee.

Annoyed that I didn't get my fastest run. It felt way faster and I wasn't trying to re-learn how to steer without power steering. Also had way more shifting as the course finally dried up to get some speed on. Oh well!

You might want to look at how you attack slaloms too. Your steering input seemed fairly late and quite jerky. Smooth it out, turn earlier, and go faster.

Sorry, I assumed the lotus was you, although if your July 7th video is any indication, you could smooth out your steering a bit as well. The lotus driver seemed like he had set steering positions, and would jump quickly from one position to the next then hold that position for a bit. In contrast, you started out good on turning in early and smooth, but then something happened about half way though. Seemed like something threw you out of your grove and caused you to start turning in later, which seemed to make you turn more, which then ended up being too much. You then corrected quite a bit fast.

Serious question, do you talk to yourself on a run?

Yea, I let my eyes drop. I wasn't sure if you were commenting on earlier videos where I tend to slow down/speed up in slaloms and end up being late and wide vs. taking them at steady state throttle, another S2000 owner had the same critique about too much steering input unsettling the rear making me slow.

I'll swear but I usually only talk if there's a passenger onboard, the camera location doesn't really show when there's someone in the car. I have a video where I'm trying to show a novice how far he should be looking ahead and if he wasn't talking you would think I was just motivationally instructing myself.

You might try talking to yourself, even if you are alone. I've found it helps to process what you are seeing and doing during the run and after. Things like "where is that pointer cone" during a run can help to remind you where to look, and "poo poo I was late here" will help you remember after the run what to correct.

That's a good idea, I never thought about that. Especially with the longer courses we run I tend to forget where I made mistakes unless it was really big.

I thought the S2000 had been a bit harder and more unpredictable to drive at the limit, turns out the drivers side shock is fully dead now. Anyone heard what the S2000s in B-stock run? Looking around it seems that either oem ($300/per for shocks), Koni yellows (~$170 each, can have Koni revalve to autox specs from b stock winners) or super expensive setups like Moton/Penske/ohlin.

Second last event of the year, nice and drizzly. I kiss a cone somewhere and still almost beat my best run with the penalty. I really hate a run like that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NmYj5oOsyo

A working rear swaybar makes a HUGE difference. The car actually goes where I point it now.

Also, is there anything funnier then someone new showing up in a "powerful" car (in this case a genesis 3.8), talking poo poo about how he's going to beat everything, and then posting the worst time of the day? I've never seen someone who has so little throttle control, it was just a toggle switch to him. He'd brake, coast through the corner and then when he got the car perfectly straight just mash the throttle. It was extra funny since he had a super loud exhaust that you could hear across both lots.
