I always thought being in an ADATS battery would be the best gig in the CF but I have no idea if I'd need to do another course, or even if they take class B's or C's.

Anyone here in air defense? I know there are a few other gunners.

Apparently it's a lovely gig. And having gone through SQ with a handful of air d guys, they weren't what I'd call the most capable. I've also heard that the leadership was staffed with the very same kind of people, mainly because our instructors told them they'd fit right in with the other screw ups. Also air d can only go to Gagetown or Moncton. Moncton isn't so bad, but gently caress Gagetown. Also the air defence are treated like the retards of the artillery and that's saying something. I did have to pick up and chauffeur an air defence major and sergeant and they were very laid back people, which might be the reason that the rest of the artillery treats air defence like poo poo. Going air defence is a really big crapshoot. You'd definitely have to take the air defence course which is, I think, a 6 month course, possibly longer. The major was also saying they are getting new weapons systems and phasing out the ADATS.

I am going to assume that you're a reservist if you're still working with the c-series. If you want them to stop jerking off over the triple 7, remind them how much they have to clean the c2/3. Then tell them that the m777 is over half the length of a transport trailer and there are a lot more nooks and crannies on it to get into. Also tell them that it's a hydraulic system and in the winter it breaks and in the summer it still won't be fixed. So everything is manual. You gotta pump like a motherfucker to get the trails up too, and that everyone does their best to avoid it.

Is there anything I should be aware of? The pay when you start looks pretty good. Does anyone know what they offer while im in school?

Depending on your trade, you will make way more civy side. A corporal, which takes about 3-4 years to get to makes 55k roughly. A first year apprentice in most trades out west makes a bit more than that, if not, a lot more. If you're doing a trade, you're probably looking for money more than anything. There are enough big projects going on to avoid serving with the Canadian Forces. If you're looking to serve, join the trade first, then they will pay you while you're training to do whatever trade you're looking to do. When I was in basic we had a guy who was an RMS tech. RMS is refrigeration mechanic specialist or some poo poo like that, which gets your your HVAC ticket. My uncle is AVS which is aircraft structure, I think, and that got him his welding ticket. Point is, if you want to join the CF as a tradesman(or woman, whatever bro), they will train you with what you need to know. If you want good money, go civilian, go out west, train on your own dime. I know the government will send you to school for a trade if you are eligible for unemployment, you just have to cover 20% of the cost of everything. Everything being tuition, books, tools, gas, and living expenses.

I have no idea how this works military side because I know generally you can't be "medicated" and be in (though I wouldn't be medicating myself for military side training, only for school). Anyone have any insight with how this works? I've been in for 6 years now in the infantry and I don't want to jeopardize my career and employment

Be very carefully with this, I know a guy who missed out on ROTP because he was taking ADD medication and had to do a medical appeal to reapply the next year. It took 3 months to get his medical stuff in order. If I remember, he got a letter to the effect of that the policy is that since the CF can't supply you with the medication in the field, it's a no-go.

I have a very technical question that maybe someone can answer to me before I get back to my RSM about my posting.

My wife is currently on PRETC and she's about to do her Clerk QL3. Her course finish on Dec 12th and its pretty much mean we are getting posted after chrismas because Ive been on the same Base for 7 years. My problem is that im currently under a logement lease in town(there was no PMQ avaible) and the contract end in july. Usually in Quebec you need to give a 3 months warning before the end of the lease and if you leave before that you have to rent it yourself to finish the lease.

Will the CF take care of that or do I have to arrange it on my own? Could it push back my posting date to July?

Take a copy of your lease to IRP when you go to do the moving business. As far as I remember, any lease terminations that result in you having to pay a fee is covered by them, because "it's not your choice to move".

Edit: alternatively, call IRP tomorrow and ask them about it. They're there to help you and will have an answer that is 100% correct.

Question for any regforce Int Ops here. Can anyone explain to me how the purple trade works in terms of postings? I understand as an Int Op you could be Air, Navy or Land, but at what point in your trades courses is this determined? Is the Int Op course the same for all trades or is there specific Int Op courses for Army, Navy and Air etc.?

Obviously postings is wherever the CF wants you posted. However, do you have any say in which element you get posted to? Can I select Army as my preferred element? (especially since Im attempting to CT from Infantry reserves)

Both of my parents are/were purple trades. How they work is that you pick the branch you want before you go in. I'd say pick air force, or navy if you want to grow a beard(I have no idea how this works because I was army). Then once you are done training, they give you a list of bases that have intel units/slots for intel people and you pick the top three and they do what they can to send you where you want to go. Or completely ignore you, one or the other. I don't know how the intel course works, but I am assume its the same as other purple trades where everyone is grouped together.

Your 5's are divided into a common phase and an element specific phase. The element specific phases are specialized, so they aren't element in name only. From talking to guys, I think your element can effect your posting but they can be flexible - I knew air and navy guys working in army roles domestically and overseas.
