s60 Nokia supremacy. (Hey i didn't get any bites on the oil thing so I've got to keep plugging).

Seriously though by the looks of it it doesn't actually need a phone at all, as it has the GPS etc already built in - maybe it just uses the phone as a data logger or something? Also looks like it wouldn't need much modding at all to fit it into a full-face lid and I suppose you could just go old-school, remove the visor, and wear the goggles.

Nevertheless, it's an Android device. Technically, it could Bluetooth-connect to any phone. I'd reaaaally want to tether it to my phone and have Google Maps or Waze in my HUD.

With all the press on those Google glasses, I was wondering if someone was working up a HUD for motorcycle helmets.

Show the gauge info (MPH/RPM), maybe some GPS or turn by turn poo poo. That would loving own.

Gauge info would be tricky -- you'd have to have a bluetooth enabled instrument cluster or something.

You could maybe do a piggyback module that blah blah blah I should really hack one of these into a helmet and then sell accessories.

A lot of modern bikes have CANBus systems so hacking in something to read just about any stat you want would be - well, not *easy*, but a shitload less complicated than it would on an older/less sophisticated bike. Even without a CANBus most displays, including analogue needles are still often driven digitally so again hacking info from them should be quite simple.

It'd be really cool if you could get it to show different info depending on head position too - glance down and it shows the full gauge info, look forward and it shows just speed and next turn, look up and it shows detailed route info, that sort of thing. gently caress it, make it so you can reject calls with a shake of the head too.

TBH the only really tricky part would be the optics (that's why this only works in certain particular goggles - the prism and lens has to be precisely ground and matched to the curvature of the thing it's projecting to). You'd probably need something that automatically switched it off when the visor was lifted too. Thinking about it it *might* be something that can be done in software if you move the donkey work off to a phone or PC.

It's MCN, they'll print any old loving poo poo (some friends of mine on Usenet managed to get a string of completely bullshit stories printed in there when we realised that a reporter there was obviously copying stuff verbatim from the group).

Also Honda have been dropping rumours of a road-going GP bike as a spoiler to other manufacturers plans since at least the failure of the NR750.

I'm getting a lot more confident and in control of my bike. The problem I kept having was that I would ease into the friction zone really slowly, and it was just impossible to have consistent and proper starts from stops. Now I just go right to the friction zone and ease it out and it's night and day :shobon: Sounds dumb but I get hung up on things like that.

Does anyone have experience using these?

It's a very tight squeeze down an alleyway to get my bike in and out of the garden, with a very awkward angle to get through the gate itself. I can do it with my 125 because it's light and I can just drag the rear wheel around to get through, but it would be impossible with a much heavier bike that has no grab rail.

Those work great for moving project cars around the garage, but you're going to drop a bike. The casters yank around funny when there's weight on them making any kind of turn.

I've never used this, but it sounds way more stable:

Yeah, I thought it would be a bit precarious. Doesn't help that the alley is all on a slope as well.

Guess I'll have to look into getting the gate extended so I have a bigger gap to get it through.

It looks like it might be too long for me to be able to manoeuvre it through the gate. Here's a professional layout of the area (Google Maps doesn't zoom in that far):

More or less to scale.

Top left is where I come in, then I have to turn left so I can then reverse backwards till I get to my gate, where I have to turn the handlebars into it as much as I can before dragging the rear wheel around so I can get through. I don't think I'd be able to turn the dolly in such a small width.

I'm still not 100% on what the exact problem is but I vote you just throw down some gravel there to make it easy to hold the front brake and slip the clutch so the rear wheel spins around to where you need it.

Expensive option - one of these and one of these.

Cheap option - get a bike with a centre stand, get two circular metal trays with a rim (tea trays or pub trays are perfect), put one on top of another with a little oil between them, stand the bike on the tray and you've got a Batman-style turntable.

Bothell and Woodinville are both north end suburbs. Woodinville thinks it's on the east side though.

I see the "bot" removed from the "welcome to bothell" signs from time to time.

Neither are terrible towns. Can't speak for auburn though, I am a north end guy.

edit - more details:
I lived in Bothell for a year right off Bothell-Everett Hwy, in a big apartment complex. Popular car prowl area, my car was messed with repeatedly and stolen. I can't see it being much different in Woodinville especially since the cars there are generally nicer than in Bothell, so if you're asking 'cause you're apartment shopping or something, get a garage if you can afford to.

Auburn's a cow pasture you drive through on the way to Crystal Mountain to go snow boarding. They have an outlet mall, a casino, Emerald Downs (horse track) and White River Amphitheater, which actually has some good concerts. The only reason I went there was for Cycle Gear, but there's a closer one to me in Lynwood now.

Woodinville is pretty much wine tasting rooms and brewery grounds.

No idea about Bothell. Never been.

Why those three areas? Bothell and Woodinville are next to each other, but Auburn is south King. There's plenty inbetween.

I'm going to be bike only for a while when I get up there so I wanted to make sure I wasn't too far from the actual plants I am guaranteed a job at; I realized it's probably not like Arizona where I can ride every single day of the year without issue, including days below 0* up in Flagstaff.

My intention is to ride up there within the next few months to look around and then actually make the move sometime early next year after the cold calms down a tiny bit. Did notice PRW is right there in Auburn ( :D ).

I'm back in the moto game after having moved out to San Francisco. Picking up a 1995 MZ Skorpion Sport. Tiny little sportbike with a Yamaha XT660 engine - it's hilariously fun and I like the odd matchup of sporty chassis to thumper engine. Pics incoming soon...right now it's safely tucked away at a motorcycle-specific parking facility in the city.

Also I'm super squidding it until my gear gets shipped out to me from Connecticut.

I put my Uly on its side for the second time last weekend. I felt like a dumbass - when I went to put the side stand down to park, a boot buckle caught on the peg and I neither put the stand down all the way nor got my foot un-caught in time to save it.

Fortunately I missed the car next to me.

The left-side Pelican 1550 kept everything off the ground and the handle made a good lift point for picking it back up. I love those cases.

How many of you don't open your visor every time you stop? I tried leaving my visor down through several lights this evening, and every time I felt like I wasn't getting enough fresh air. Even when I had the great big Shoei Hornet, I opened my visor at every light. I always figured every motorcyclist opened his or her visor every time he or she stopped.

I have my visor open nearly all the time, only really close it when I start to hit around 40mph. I've tried leaving it down at lights and such but it feels absolutely horrid to me.
