So having some solid cut scenes where to story can make sense to her. The catch is here something that is relativity kid friendly. So nothing with over the top violence and cursing. Any genre would do but I would prefer to play it on PC.

And ideas? Thanks

My little guy likes watching me play Mini Ninjas (this works for your criteria), The Maw (not sure if there is voice acting, but there aren't a lot of words, if any), Rayman Origins (not many words, just a platformer but very fun and colorful), and Stacking (requires reading, sadly, but again, it's not like playing an RPG or anything). Stacking absolutely cracks him up, by the way. :)

I realize that not all of my answers fit precisely what you are looking for, but if you have any of those, give them a try.

I have done Stacking it is a lot of fun. I was just trying to find something more story specific because she really likes story with characters.

Edit: Also thanks for the suggestions I forgot about mini ninjas.

Bastion is really cool, and is basically a fairy tale that develops as you play it, with a narrator that sounds like Morgan Freeman. The game is also totally awesome.

I just replayed through STALKER and Clear Sky, and the patches make it much better overall (kept getting stuck at Red Forest in CS pre-patches). The Complete mod is pretty good for the first game, but I enjoyed it with just the patches (edit: I also used the atmosfear mod, which made it look alot better at least, but you'd probably be better off using the complete mod instead: http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-complete-2009).

I remember Anachronox being a lot of fun for spectators. Engaging and funny characters, lots of cutscenes and a noir-ish sci fi setting with a decent if somewhat wacky story.

The gameplay is inspired by older jrpg stuff like the Final Fantasy games, but they mix it up with mini-games and puzzle solving. It's 6$ on GoG now.

Anachronox does have cutscenes with voice acting, but the parts in between are usually just text. Also there might be some language you don't want your kid to be hearing, not sure how you feel about that. I can't remember how bad the language gets.

Oh, that's a good point. It's been a while for me as well, but I do remember there being some jokes that reference sex, although they were pretty light in tone and might go unnoticed by younger children. I'm not sure about swearing.

If in doubt, all the cutscenes were re-cut into a two hour(!) movie by the director for a machinima contest. You can check it out online to get an idea of how suitable it is. Just beware, it's obviously full of spoilers.

Edit: The ESRB rating is T for violence and mature themes, apparently. Also, that movie: http://archive.org/details/JakeHughesAnachronoxTheMovie

Please recommend me some chill games.

I have a PS3 and a Wii. I have a PC too but I'd prefer to do my chill gaming in prone couch position. I'm currently working extremely hard building up a new business. I've still got about a year and half to go before it's really turning any true profit (if we make it at all) and it's stressing me the gently caress out. So I'm running, which helps but in the evening I've been kicking back and shutting off my brain with some games.

I've been out of touch with gaming for at least 3 or so years for the most part so this should be easy I would think. I've recently played:

Red Dead Redemption - The game itself had plenty of non-chill action (especially the undead expansion) but I really enjoyed just going up into Tall Trees and shooting animals, checking out the sights, etc. It was pretty zen and peaceful in a weird way. I did that for days before I actually finished the ending chapters.

Gran Turismo 5 - I can chill out a little just doing a free run around the Ring but all in all, it's not really that great for chill out and it gets old REALLY fast.

Heavy Rain - Would have been perfect but all the "shake controller violently" parts were sort of annoying. QTEs don't bother me much, in this game they were fine but I remember being really annoyed by them back in the Shenmue days.

Monster Hunter Tri - So this is like a single player farm-fest MMO but with somehow less rewarding gameplay? I didn't get it. I stopped playing after a few hours. Maybe I'll try it again later...

I'm in my 30s, so my memories of playing some sweet turn-based RPG games and Adventure Games like Full Throttle, Myst, Siberia etc on PC are great. I liked being able to take my time, get a cool story, relax. There's a challenge present but it's not ridiculously high leveled, maybe relies on more cerebral than twitch.

So I'm thinking the Adventure / RPG thing is cool but Turn-based RPGS seem to be a dead genre unless I'm missing something. I'm pretty open to anything though... hit me.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a really chill game. There is good action and fighting if you want it, but it's also possible to turn invisible and just go exploring in safety. Skyrim also has good exploration, but the world is more dangerous so it's not as relaxing as Oblivion.

Can anyone recommend me some good games based on escaping sinking ships? I think it would be an interesting thing to play, if there's any dynamic ship-escape games out there let me know.

I wanna say Stacking for either the ps3 or PC. It's a really great, charming, atmospheric and chill game. There's no real combat, it's more an adventure game with puzzles and plays like an old silent movie.

The Walking Dead series maybe? It's more an interactive novel with you making some key decisions and some rather basic adventure story puzzle solving. It can get pretty tense at times, but very very little of it is twitchy.

And Portal 2. An amazing game that requires more thought and problem solving then any twitchiness. Even the parts that require you to rush are more for effect.

Sorry to double post. But I'm assuming you're looking for games that don't require any use of the shift or ctrl keys? There's a few recent ones that come to mind.

Torchlight 2 is a diablo clone that just came out, and being a diablo clone requires minimal usage of the left hand, and you definitely don't need use of the pinky. It has multiplayer too.

Any of the 4x games as well like Civ 5 (which you can get for cheap at http://www.getloadedgo.com/ with another game for the future), can be entirely one handed and will suck up lots and lots of time. Like all of it.

Not sure what all you like, but those are pretty highly regarded and easy on the hand. Also, all the ones I recommended to TabulaRasa I would recommend to you as well.

Edit: Actually, thinking on it some more, Torchlight 2 might not be a good idea. I think I was subconsciously using my pinky way more than I thought because of the way attacks works with movement. Though on normal it shouldn't be too much a problem I think.

Tactics Ogre is the game Final Fantasy Tactics is based on.
Fire Emblem for the DS (and the sequel, and the GC game) are very good and well regarded.
Front Mission (first three games) are like FFT but with robots and similar to FFT have an actually serious plotline that isn't generic (TO) or saturday morning cartoon rejects (FFT:A and A2, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars games not subtitled Days of Ruin). The earlier Fire Emblem games were more serious as well, but we never got them.
XCOM is the big Western entry into the genre, its very good and has a good theme thats halfway between Mars Attacks and Alien.
Jagged Alliance is another western entry, it's a good game but its really obtuse and unfriendly by modern standards.

I actually have played it, and like you said the hard time limit gets annoying. Playing a platformer is changing circumstances is really cool though. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare had a good level on a sinking ship, but it was more about shooting your way out rather than trying to escape from the bowels of a huge vessel. So, am I missing any fun multiplayer FPS's in my rotation?

-Love Black Ops, my favorite game. Hate MW3 and not a big fan of MW2 either, something about BLOPs feels different though and put hundreds of hours into it
-Blacklight Retribution (fun but I wish it had more maps or maybe perks)
-CS:GO (love the slower pacing/strategic aspects of it, and the high skill cap. Wish it had new maps though)

Dislike TF2 and Battlefield 3/BC2. TF2 just doesn't feel like some tightly tuned competitive game but a silly cartoon FPS with hats (I'm sure many disagree but I just don't like the feel of the game). And something about BF3 just feels completely wrong to me, I think it just does a poor job considering it's potential with having big maps and vehicles, and the team aspects are just poo poo compared to Counterstrike or the older Battlefields even.

The only real criteria I have is the game still has an active playerbase. 3rd person action is fine with me too.

Answers to questions asked of me:
I can use a controller, but don't have one and have no income at the moment (but if I did I'd want a joystick and even, well in fantasy, on of those IR... Track? What are those things called? Where it tracks your head movement and changes your view in game? Oh well, irrelevant)

As for genres: I love cars and racing, I have games like grid and dirt and f1 2010, but tragically they're worthless on keyboard and the wheel I bought at walmart for ps2 was equally worthless so I returned it. I used to like flight sims, could still see myself enjoying them if I could find my joystick. Even thought about modding an old keyboard with a circuit with a circuit that sees varying rates at which the w key, say, is being pressed based on how hard a stick I've built is pushed forward... I like all the total war games (see below) and have played every battlefield game up to 3, where I think my laptop has hit its limitations. Eh, all sorts of poo poo. I even liked this joh deere farming simulator I got. Only things I dont care for are sporting sims. Like I said, all over the place.

There was this one game I wanted to play, but I think it was ps3 only, where it was a mix of adventure and fps, I remember the character carrying a revolver across a bridge from the e3 trailer, but that's about it. Aside form the games already recommended, which I'm checking out, something like that - slightly reminiscent of older resident evils, but not exactly - some kind of adventure game with action in it that gets you sucked in to the storylines line but also has shooting, I guess kind of like bioshock (which I liked but was a little too cartooney). I hope that's not too ridiculous of a request.

I've got a hankering for a business sim. Preferably something to do with cars or airlines, but I'm open to ideas. I played and enjoyed Capitalism II, so I'm looking for something along those lines.

I was thinking about this, and believe it or not I think the latest "SOMETHING: Total War" games could fit this bill. They're actually turn-based strategy games, but the economy plays a huge role. There's even an economic domination mode where you start out with a few provinces, depending on what nation or faction you choose to play as, and the provinces all have natural resources that you can exploit, investing more money in them for better output. Then via diplomacy you arrange trade agreements with other nations, and the amount of income that nets you is directly proportional to how much you've upgraded your nation's infrastructure (on a province-by-province basis) like roads and ports and how much stuff you have to trade (as per natural resources you've got available).
Then you build merchant ships to use shipping lanes to the colonies or whatever, and fleets of warships to protect those from pirates and rival factions. You would expand your nation by bribing other nations to sell you provinces or become protectorates, which is hard as you'd imagine so you develop your own as much as possible so that your word carries more weight in diplomacy. They're really good games.

I've played 40 some odd hours of FTL, watched Firefly and Serenity, and still can't get enough of the "one ship against the world" concept. Are there any other games out there? I fired up X3: Albion Prelude last night and was scooting around for a few hours, but it really lacks the sort of character and pressure that I'm looking for. Is there anything out there that puts me in charge of a space ship and its crew? It can be a simulator like the X series, more strategy based like FTL, but not a 4X game; I love those but that's not what I'm looking for right now. I need something to hold me till the new XCOM comes out!

I'm pretty open to anything though... hit me.

Xenoblade Chronicles for wii. It's a cool story and game to play through. none of the horrible jrpg mechanics and tons of character and personality. It's honestly one of the best RPGs this generation.

For ps3 , check out zen pinball. I've spent hours just puttering away on the tables.

What's a really good co-op PC game? My friend and I enjoyed (and are still enjoying, honestly) Saint's Row 3, so other games with shenanigans and institutional antagonism are encouraged, but not necessary. Other than that, no dungeon crawlers. Anything we may enjoy?
