It's because prosthetic legs, if they end up resting on the engine, tend to melt and weld themselves to it. Backov posted:Wow, that's a pretty cool trike. What was it? Dunno - that frame member sort of looks like a first-gen CBR600 but the seat unit looks like it's off a ZZR, so maybe it's a bitsa?

I did wonder about that, maybe the owner had it converted after an accident? But, if you look closely, it's just a regular footpeg and brake. He's just had that plate fixed to the brake lever. And the wrap could just be for the looks. It is still possible that he's got a dodgy leg, but I was expecting there to be a thumb brake or something when I first saw it.

I have seen people try to do this before while marshaling, fortunately not as blatantly moronic as this special individual. We actually straight up banned a dude for doing this a few years back.

I like Jay's Garage, and this one is pretty good, couple of guys make a kit to convert a Suzuki Savage into a cafe racer. I'm not to into the look, but the concept of a kit you can bolt on is pretty cool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5r6rhQiT-k

I've had two savages and I loved them. But even though that Ryca kit looks awesome, doing a cafe on a savage is kind of lame because despite being 650CCs, they're seriously top out at 80mph. I posted my old Savage bobber a little while back: front wing flexing posted:My Savage Bobber I did a couple years ago was my favorite single. I loved the sound and feel of that thumper. It was light as hell too. Stock it weighed 160kg but with all those super heavy harley style fenders front and rear I must took at least another 30kg of weight off.

Slim Pickens posted:Dudes in the 60's were cafe'ing BSA goldstars and usually with no engine mods, so it's pretty true to form, actually That's pretty true. It's just today's traffic patterns cause a need for not so much an increase top speed but acceleration. I never felt that comfortable on the freeway. That Ryca looks fantastic though.

A Proper Uppercut posted:It really, really, really pisses me off that bikes like this won't come to the US. Especially with the (relative) success that bikes like the Street Triple have had. There really isn't a market for a Z1000 with 200cc less displacement and less power in the U.S. The Z1000 is already down a fair bit on power compared to the regular liter bikes that Americans love. Also, to be fair, the Z1000 is a fantastic bike and I don't know how much they could really improve upon it with 200cc less. The ER6N/650R/Versys exists state-side for those who want a smaller, lighter bike with similar ergonomics. I'm more upset to learn Kawasaki makes these but doesn't sell them in the U.S.:

Seconding the "whoa" responses to the front clutch pack on the GS. The whole drivetrain seems to be simplified, tons of info here http://www.webbikeworld.com/BMW-motorcycles/2013-bmw-r1200gs/ (Including original press release from BMW) It's taken a few whacks of the ugly stick in order to incorporate the radiators, but you can't have it all. e: 238 kg / 524 lbs is pretty good in my opinion. e2: I hope the charging system is reliable. Looks like the stator is now a total teardown job Ola fucked around with this message at 11:07 on Oct 4, 2012 |
