crankdatbatman posted:Hey thread long time no post. After lurking the fast few pages and links, is Grime making a comeback? Or was it ever really dead? More out for lunch than dead. Nah it's still ticking along and has been since days. I think the whole pop end of it all kinda overshadowed what was going on. Made everything else kinda low key. But right now I'd say it's in pretty rude health. Stuff's coming out, mixtapes are going up all the time. Even it's bigger uncle the whole UK Rap thing is actually going no bad too. That's not crossing over anytime soon, but it's going. Even the pop stuff recently has been pretty good. I loved Heatwave, but Wiley is Wiley. Number 1 in the charts, the 2 Big Dada albums, busy past year or two. His new single isn't so bad either.

I've been asked to accompany a friend to Flux Pavillion this evening, last of his I heard was I Can't Stop, the Roksonix remix of Voscillate and of course Bass Cannon. Has he done anything decent recently? I remember liking those tracks but only for a few plays then they got boring. Have to say I'm more looking forward to Dillon Francis who'll hopefully play something fun. Oh and whoever suggested Core, thanks, that's loving awesome.

I think grime or grime influenced stuff is definitely bigger than it was say 2-3 years ago. Maybe its just more noticeable as labels like Butterz have kinda helped integrate it into the wider uk bass scene. Khan & Neek - Percy/Fierce and stuff on Night Slugs really showed sound is still popular.

Diving in to Garage or Grime because you're bored with American Dubstep makes sense to me, and is probably what's going to drive (at least, new) EDM in the next decade.

I doubt that. The crossover appeal is almost non-existent. If you're someone who's into mid-range tearout, then you would be much more likely to head over to Doctor P/Flux Pavilion/Chase & Status. Everyone else will continue pushing the envelope from directions we can't even imagine yet.

Speaking of, Rinse seems to have slyly put out another I Love... release, this time grime: http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/36643318/0/I-Love-Grime/ListingDetails.html Tracklisting looks nice, although I don't know if I would have chosen Sian Anderson to be the 2nd DJ.

They kept ultra tight lipped about that. Tracklisting does look nice. Some new, some not so new, some really loving old (License to Stomp? gently caress me). I don't mind Sian actually. Plus I guess it's cool to show off the women of Grime, even if it's just the selector. Admitingly no female MCs in her tracklist but whatever, it's still cool and something that should've been sorted out a long time before this.

Since we're talking about grime, is there any place with a tracklist for spyro's podcast? Right now there's a track he's been playing like non-stop for the past month+, in the sept 27 pod it comes on about 23:00. I'm still a grime novice over here, but I'm lovin it and I'm finally starting to recognize tracks that come up on the spyro pod.

Does anyone remember the remix of Force MD's "Tender Love" that came out a couple months ago? It started with a pitched-up laugh sound, then had a Jersey club kinda part, then a trill high-hats and snare on the 3 part. I can't remember the producer and there are lots of remixes on soundcloud. Here is the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW_vpwbERBo EDIT: I also remember the DJ puts a little "DJ _____" soundbite at the beginning of the tune. Can't remember his DJ name for the life of me Maguro fucked around with this message at 03:04 on Oct 12, 2012 |

pack it yo posted:I posted a bit ago asking if anyone can identify this genre of dubstep or the artist of this particular song, but my link didn't work and I think my post got lost, so here it is again for you guys: Well it's just plain ol' regular Dubstep. I'd say no fancy sub-genre this and that, despite random making up whatever name in an attempt to stand out (though some might disagree). No idea who the artist is, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's just something ripped off a random Soundcloud or whatever. Of course now I've said that it's probably someone really obvious who I'm forgetting) Anyway yeah so if it's a more creepy/more spacey thing you want I'd probably check out the darker, more often halfstep sound. Things like Youngsta with his Rinse mix and what he plays, the likes of DJ Madd, Kryptic Minds and Distance for starters. Label wise check out whatever Black Box and Chestplate are pushing out. Now that's just some album links there and admitingly some are getting on a bit age wise (well the Distance one is at least). Obviously it's dance music so it's a singles thing in general, but you'd be here all weekend chatting to folks about 12 inches. But it's a start I guess and you can dig deeper from there if you want. Now some people may call that halfsteppy darker kind of stuff the 'dungeon' sound, but that's still a loving horrible name used by horrible people. My offer of a tenner and a crate of Tesco's finest generic value lager to the person who can off whoever coined that term still stands. I know it might not exactly match what you're wanting as to be honest that kind of floaty 'downtempo' piano-y thing isn't really used too much. It's dance music so it doesn't really generally go down that route, bar maybe the odd filler track on an album. Oh and to be even more obvious, Burial.

Teddy (the producer) MC's quite well apparently (free 320 download from soundcloud): http://soundcloud.com/teddy_music/teddy-music-no-sleep-freestyle Still not a fan of Faze's "hip-hop passed off as grime" beats, but trap is getting bigger than dubstep these days so I'm not surprised proper grime is taking a backseat for most producers. infinity2005 posted:And uh here's some content.. still waiting for this drat record to get in stock on somewhere other than the Hinge Finger store, the Joy O on same label too: Appreciate I'm new here but this is 100% techno, wouldn't class it as UK Bass at all.
