PIRA probably. Also, I think that's a AR-18, the unadopted successor to the famous AR-15, so the picture is post '63.

That gun is either a CETME or HK G3. The picture would probably be in the 50's or 60's.

No. It's an Ar-18. Look at the sights and the magazine well, its got that very distinctive slant.

The Armalite is such a symbol of the PIRA that they actually named their long-term strategy after it. It's an AR-18.

Here's a better picture of the gun and girl in question:

Once you find out that Prince Philip pretty much just wanted to be a naval officer and King George VI's death put the kibosh on his career his behavior becomes perfectly understandable. He gives no fucks.

She was a new Orleans reisident whos real name was Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau. The painting is called "The Portrait of Madame X" by John Singer Sargent .
More details can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait_of_Madame_X.

Gonna revive this thread because I just found this, and didn't see my two favorites.

Young Marlon Brando. Standing next to Marilyn Monroe during filming of "Desiree". He is playing Napoleon Bonaparte (a looker in his own right).

And from the same movie, Jean Simmons. My grandma called her "poor man's Audrey Hepburn" but I think she was amazing in her own right. She also had a lovely voice. She narrated some of the "Mysteries of the Bible" stuff on tv.

Théodolinde de Beauharnais. Granddaughter of Napoleon's Josephine. I just love the hair.

Physicist Erwin Schrodinger, of Schrodinger's equation fame (also the cat).

Schrodinger left Germany for the US in 1933 because he disagreed with Nazi policies. These days, we'd probably call him polyamorous. He had an open marriage; his wife was also seeing Hermann Weyl, and he had a daughter with Hilde March, another physicist's wife. The guys at Princeton were a little freaked out by Erwin.

Unfortunately, this was the only picture of Annie Schrodinger I could find:
