Well, in the ongoing Hulk Hogan sex tape news, he announced today that he is actually suing Bubba and Heather and Gawker. This has to be a publicity stunt. http://www.tmz.com/2012/10/15/hulk-hogan-bubba-the-love-sponge-lawsuit-sex-tape/

Lets see papers are actually filed and if the tape actually comes out, but ya it really does smell like a work on their part... but I dont see what the end game is gonna be unless the tape actually comes out and Hogan is paid for it. I mean ya, they are getting publicity, but I dont see how that is helping them right now.

Bubba must have been expecting some people to be excited about this, but it just comes off as the final nail in coffin of Hulk's fame. A few years from now he'll be hocking muscle-building powder on late night TV while Bubba's caught with underage strippers or something.

A little off-topic, but what is the deal with Dr. Drew? I only know him from his Stern show appearances. He always seems pretty insightful on the show. I've read elsewhere though that he's a hack and will do or say anything for a buck.

I've read elsewhere though that he's a hack and will do or say anything for a buck. He apparently has an insane work ethic -- in Adam Carolla's book, he talks about how Drew was doing rounds at a hospital at super-early hours before getting on a plane to do some all-day media event with Adam. And there are a lot of people who say really good things about him -- Jason Ellis won't say a bad word about the guy, and sounds incredibly grateful for the help he got. He's on TV a lot, which makes me suspicious, but the fact that he pisses off people like Robin is a point in my book. Also, remember when Artie offered to take a piss test and Drew insisted that "penis in cup" be observed? That was the day that Artie later claimed he had a bottle of some other guy's piss on him, and being called out as someone who was going to try to fake his way through it make him explode. Drew really had Artie pegged -- the guy knows what he's dealing with.

Artie also said that Dr. Drew was coming on the show pretending to care about him getting better, while at the same time offering him a poo poo ton of money to be on "Celebrity Rehab" though. The fact that the dude runs 2 shows (or did, no clue if they still on air) dedicated to exploiting people with addictions for cheap ad revenue puts him firmly in the "scumbag" column for me.

Not that I didn't know this already but Victoria Jackson is batshit crazy. She just used the "pray the gay away" approach when asked what she would do if she had a gay son. I don't understand why Fox News would put her on the air, she just makes them look even worse.

re: Dr. Drew, of course I knew him from Loveline and always thought he was really top-notch. Bright, and very on the mark when it came to sex issues and/or drug addiction. However, one thing I will say about his "entertainment persona" - he's really disgusting. A lot of the footage on "Celebrity Rehab" and "Sober House" was staged, and the treatment itself never lasted beyond a few weeks. Any doctor (or addict for that matter) can tell you that a 30-day program is the bare minimum for its effects to take hold. My sources on the above paragraph by the way are from Steven Adler's book, My Appetite For Destruction, and Steven Tyler's book, Does The Noise In My Head Bother You.

I know someone who was in that same rehab facility, who said those people aren't just cut loose after 30 days, and that many of them stay much longer. I suspect they just stage the "going home" portion. For what it's worth.

I'd assume he would've had his license revoked by now if there wasn't actual behind-the-scenes treatment/concession from those involved it's staged.

Ok this is semi off topic I'm British not American, I've never even visited America but when ever I hear the right wring tools like the moron on the show today or DePace I want to vomit. Why the gently caress does the most powerful country in the world treat politics like sports? Why in gods name do Christians of all people support the wealthy and despise the idea of sharing? I'm not a biblical scholar but in Catholic school I learned Jesus was pretty big on helping the less fortunate as I recall when he healed the leper he didn't then demand a few shekels for his time. Why do lower class people from the middle and south vote against their own interest to cut taxes for the rich and raise their own? Why doesn't anyone understand the difference between socialism and communism? I know it literally doesn't effect me at all so I really shouldn't care but when ever I hear this nonsense I want to pull my hair out.

For many years, there has been a push to define success in material terms. This material success has been conflated with general "goodness". There's a thing called the "prosperity gospel" that implies that material success is a result of personal excellence. So you get this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aF8wLg5Asgo

It makes a lot of us want to pull our hair out too. I think the biggest reason is that there is this idea in America that you have to do everything yourself, having help is cheating, and you have to earn your success. Which, I think is a noble thing to do. I admire people who do that, but I can't at the same time dismiss the millions of people who weren't given the same opportunities I was (whether it be because of their race, their gender, their sexual orientation, or anything else). So not only can I not judge the less fortunate, but I think it's right to help them out whenever possible. Anyway, you should hang out in D&D sometimes, a lot of people there can articulate this a lot better than I can.

Whoa whoa whoa, stop the clock. Look at this guy, thinking Americans who identify as Christians identify that way due to anything related to Jesus T. Christ's actions or beliefs. No, it's about how many benefits one can get from belonging to Generic Religious Group A as opposed to Generic Religious Group B, and how many bigoted beliefs one can hide within that provided cover. Then you factor in the rise of the culture of consumption after WWI, wherein an individual's value was in part based on the material goods that individual has amassed, and you end up with a myth of American Exceptionalism -- We Are Wealthy Because We Are Just -- And You Can Test That Theorem By Checking Our Wealth -- Yep, Still Rich! Therefore, Just. This is a myth that has always existed to further American interests - Manifest Destiny, they called it in ye olde dayes. Settlers had to take the land from the natives who owned it, because they were Doing It Wrong! So it's for their own good that we brought them Americanism, you see. Scott DePace and all of the other Limbaugh Regurgitators buy into this myth, because without belief in this myth their entire world view has no purpose or reason. The short answer is "DePace and all other right wing fuckwits who couldn't explain their position on issues out of a wet paper bag without a talking points cheatsheet believe the poo poo they believe because rich guys like Rush Limbaugh and Mitt Romney directly benefit from their ignorance."
