Ladies.
So we're going with friends to see Jimmy Buffet in October at the MGM. My friend is the parrothead in the group, and he wants to drink at the 5 O'clock Somewhere bar at the Flamingo. Apparently there's a particular drink there that involves a beer and a shot of coconut rum. Anyone know what it's called?

A secret room... always my favourite room in a house.
I'm not sure where the specific Vegas gambling thread went so I'm just going to ask in here. I'll be in Vegas from Nov. 2-5th so could use some advice.

1) I am super paranoid on etiquette and not looking like a fool. The first bet I want to make at Vegas is going to a roulette table and throwing down $100 on black. I'm not sure even how to make this bet because I read that roulette chips are different and gives you roulette specific chips to use. Can anyone explain?

2) What is the best place (lowest limits) to play Blackjack around walking distance from Flamingo (as that where I am staying)?

3) Poker. I love playing poker online, but I have literally played poker with actual chips maybe twice in my life at house games. I hold my own online but using actual chips scares me for some reason. Can anyone just give me a brief run down for someone who has pretty much exclusively played online? How do I get seat at a table, buy in, etc.

4) Craps. I really want to play craps but I'v heard the low limit tables are usually full. Is there a line or something order to play? How does that work?

5) Sports books. Is it as easy as going up to the window and playing the over/under for X football game?

Thanks, I feel like an idiot but I can't find these answers really.

Easy enough. Just put the $100 on the table and ask for one black. Most roulette chips are different than normal casino chips but they still have the typical $5 $25 and $100 chips on the table. If they look at you funny, just tell them it's going on black/going on the outside. They'll know.

When you get to the poker room, there's a podium and a manager who takes care of everything. There should be a big board telling you what games are going on, but you can always ask. If there's an open seat, they'll seat you right away. Otherwise, your name gets put on a waiting list. You buy your chips from the manager, and he'll tell you what table to go to. It's pretty simple, in all honesty.

5) Sports books. Is it as easy as going up to the window and playing the over/under for X football game?

Yeah more or less. The games will typically be listed like:

1001 Broncos 51.5 +130
1002 Patriots -4.5 -145
1003 Saints -1.5 -110
1004 Dogshit 70 -105
etc...

The first four digit number is the number of the game/team you're betting on. Just say "I'll take 1001 over the total for $x". Most sports book employees will ask/double-check if there's any question. Just double-check that you're betting on the entire game and not just the first half. Most sports book employees are pretty friendly. I say 'Most' because the sports book employees at Green Valley Ranch are all cunts. You won't have to worry about them though since they're waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off the strip. I just like to vent.

I definitely appreciate this thread and i'm looking forward to playing my first Craps game ever although i'll probably be playing a fair share of Pai Gow poker to stretch the gambling fund. The Venetian is connected to the Palazzo. Apparently there's a rare book store there that has some rare Shakespeare manuscript for $250k, or an original printing of the Origin of Species for $60k. I haven't gone to check it out yet, but it sounds really interesting.

Forgot to post reviews from my trip:
Ping Pang Pong is a dim sum place at the Gold Coast. If I didn't have my girlfriend with me to translate, order, and explain things, I'd have been totally lost. Still, the food was AMAZING and super cheap.
Monta Ramen is drat good, and pretty cheap, $7 for a BIG bowl of ramen. My girlfriend LOVED the kimchi fried rice.

Unfortunately, both of these places are two or so miles from the strip, and thus $15 cab rides more or less.

The Wicked Spoon buffet at the Cosmopolitan is pretty incredible. Here's a few menu items on the night I was there: Gnocchi in lamb ragout. Shrimp and grits. Kimchee fried rice and bulgogi. All you can eat BONE MARROW. Shrimp ceviche. Thai tea gelato. Duck confit ravioli. They have a build your own mac and cheese station too. $35, and there's some extra fee for all you can drink wine.

Thomas Keller's Bouchon Bakery in the Venetian is a must. Best macarons ever, according to my girlfriend. I left my cupcake and muffin in a cab on the way to the airport, but the little I tasted was amazing. I got a signed copy of Under Pressure for $50 there. Most of the baked goods aren't that expensive, you can go by here for dessert or a light breakfast for probably $10.

Bouchon Bistro upstairs is REALLY nice, but a little bit pricier. $12-25 a plate at breakfast is a little steep for every day but good for a treat. The corned beef hash was probably the best I've ever had. The french toast looked absolutely nuts and I immediately regretted my order. I suggest buying it if you go.

Does anyone else like to play Sigma Derby at the MGM Grand? It's a mechanical horse racing game where up to ten players sit around the table and bet 25¢ per quinella (first and second place). The odds range from 2:1 up to 200:1.

It's a fun and super chill way to burn a few hours on the cheap. I usually get by on ~$20/hour (plus tips for the cocktail waitresses) and have a good time just shooting the poo poo with other people around the table.

Must have happened recently. I was there in July and played it. drat thing was getting too popular. Middle of the week and most of time I went by there the thing was full and no one would leave.

Looks like the best place to get drunk cheap now is the beanbag game at Hooters but its not gambling.

IP is a significantly better location. Strat has a decent poker room and very good tournaments, plus the cool poo poo at the top of the tower. As a tourist, assuming these are the only two choices, I'd go with IP.

IP is in a nice location but its also joked as being the worst on the strip right before stratosphere which arguably isnt even "on the strip" because its so far aay from everything else. If you can pay a couple bucks (barely more) and stay at Bally's which is a decent midldle ground spot, if you tip the desk clerk 20 bucks and kindly ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available you can get a suite when you check in. Anecdotal evidence but it has worked for me 3/3 times. :)

Hey thread, a friend and I are planning to go to Vegas over Thanksgiving weekend. Problem is, we're both under 21 (but over 18). We'll be staying for 2 nights, and since it's my friend's first time there, I'm not too sure what to do. Is just wandering around the Strip, the various shops, and a show enough for two nights of entertainment? I've been to Vegas a good amount of times, but it was as a kid and I just spent most of my time sitting and staring at slot machines while my parents played blackjack and craps.

People I know who are definitely not paid shills loved it, but it's among the highest priced in town. You're talking a couple bucks above Bellagio/Aria and into Wynn/Cosmopolitan territory. You'll get what you pay for, but drat you will pay.

I should note: my people who are definitely not paid shills also loved Wicked Spoon Buffet at Cosmo, and I thought it was merely an okay dinner but an awful value for "brunch".

So I've been to Vegas many times, but always on a shoestring budget. But this Thanksgiving, my parents are meeting me there and they want me to show them around. Problem is, I typically do all my dining at food courts, and I've never seen a single Vegas show.

Any recommendations for a nice place to have dinner on Thanksgiving? We're not looking for turkey-and-stuffing, just someplace nice to celebrate. My folks aren't big on fusion, but anything American/French should be safe. They're huge steak fans.

Also looking for one, maybe two shows to see. What would be "the" Cirque show to see? Anything worthwhile besides Cirque?

Went with some first time Vegas visitors to Mon Ami Gabi (Paris) while at a conference last month. They loved it. Gordon Ramsay has a steak place there too, but have never been.

They really enjoyed being able to see the Bellagio fountains from our table. You can't reserve the outdoor seating, but we sat "inside" but with a view of it so maybe it's possible to request that.

Le reve is really good, and you dont really have to worry about a bad seat - circular steep ampitheater. Its not a cirque show, but I think its better than the ones I've seen.

My wife and I saw Cirque "O" at the Bellagio and enjoyed it. It's a water-themed show with an enormous tank submerged in the stage that the actors are constantly flipping in to and jumping out of, etc. We were in the cheap seats up front in the corner near the wall and the view was OK, although there were some parts of the stage we couldn't fully see due to the angle.

Just got back from Vegas with my girlfriend and this is one of the places we ate at. I would say it was worth every penny as long as you go there with the mind that you are going to stay awhile. Pro tip: Go for late lunch (so 1:45 or so) as they start bringing out the dinner items at 2:30 and you won't have to pay as much.

The big plus was the food which was all pretty much amazing. I ate so many King Crab legs I thought I was going to explode, along with lamb chops, prime rib, duck, etc. My girlfriend thought the sushi was disappointing, and I was disappointed there wasn't any lobster for how much we were paying, but that was really my only complaint food wise. Desserts were good too because they were all very small so you could try a bit of everything.

What I was really disappointed in was the service at the table in getting refills and drinks. I only got my water refilled twice in ~3 hours of being there. I dunno if this is to get you to leave, but it pissed me off and I sure as hell didn't leave any sort of tip.

Overall it was 4/5 for me. My girlfriend loved it though since she got to try many types of food she has never had before. She now loves King Crab legs haha.

Me & the girlfriend are going to be in town Dec 26-30th. The 3 djs playing that we are interested in seeing during our time there are Steve Aoki the 28th @ Surrender, Calvin Harris the 29th @ Surrender, and Kaskade the 29th @ Marquee.

I see on both Surrender's and Marquee's websites they offer pre-sale vip tickets to these events. Are those the best way to ensure getting into those sets or is there a another way? I'm assuming it works like a normal concert but then I read about standing in line and getting on guest lists and I'm unsure - We've never done the Vegas clubbing scene before.
