Full names, Brian Brain and South Ocean. First names, Ludacriss and Komyethra (both whiter than Blofeld's cat) and Nanowrimo. Yes, as in the month-long writing event. The patron explained that that was how he and his wife met. I smiled and nodded. Luckily little Nanowrimo was a girl and usually went by Annie.

I live in Hong Kong. As such, I regularly see people named Fairy, Coke and Sound Sound (Such names accompany Chinese counterparts of course, and are chosen by ADULTS for business purposes or matters of etiquette ie. interacting with white barbarians). The worst I've seen was Dick Dick. I am not kidding. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic. Gormless Gormster has a new favorite as of 10:49 on Oct 17, 2012 |

I've somehow known an Arwen, a Galadriel, AND a Laurelin. Also a Blade, but I think my favorite is Ebony Outlaw. I think all those are awesome, but I suppose that's up for debate. My last name is Moon, and I've told my girlfriend that if we get married and have kids, she's in charge of keeping me from making horrible puns. My surname is Haug. Not a big deal, apparently means 'hill' according to my Norwegian mom, pronounced identically to the Hague. Doesn't stop people from reading it as "hog" constantly, especially on intercoms or on the phone. I find it more amusing than anything, given I'm barely 120 pounds and hardly porcine.

BAKA FLOCKA FLAME posted:I think they might have a clue how to pronounce their own loving name. Come on now. It's also quite possible they know how to pronounce their name but not "the Hague", too. In any case, a bit of looking into things suggests a traditional Norwegian pronunciation of "Haug" is unlikely to be the same as "the Hague". If they go by a "Hauge" pronunciation even if it happens to be nonstandard, that's their prerogative.

Shoreditch posted:A guy that went to my high schools name is George Papageorge This is a pretty standard Greek name. I'm Greek so it doesn't strike me as odd at all. Just an ordinary name. Being Greek I have known an Aphrodite, a Hermione, several men named Socrates and Aristotle, and Mahi (a girl's name meaning battle). I got lucky. My grandmother found her name to be so repulsive she refused to let my parents name me after her. I was instead named after my grandfather. Her name was Marditsa. Thanks, grandma!

You would be correct; they are Italian and try to distance themselves from the culture while trying to constantly flaunt their Irish side to the point that they act like card-carrying members of Sinn Fein. Coming from a long line of Sicilians, I guess it annoys me more than most when people distance themselves from Italian heritage for whatever stupid reason. My ex-wife's mom's original maiden name was "Acquilani," but after her parents divorced, her rabidly Irish (she was American but also did the whole Irish pride thing) mother changed the kids' last names to "Acquilan" in order to make it less Italian-sounding. Instead, it just sounds like a Jethro Tull album. Count Freebasie has a new favorite as of 19:27 on Oct 21, 2012 |

At my job, a lady in another department's first name is Nate. No, not pronounced like the male name ("nayt"), but pronounced "Nuh-tay". Nice enough lady, didn't get mad when I called her department to help and gave the (techinically) wrong name.
