What about BT POMS Vindicators? A lot of points but a huge threat.

Also can someone explain to me why a base chaos marine isn't more powerful (and more costly) than a base loyalist marine? Shouldn't they be getting some benefit from the power of chaos?

Because the basic chaos marine represents everything from a recently turned renegade to a 10,000 year old warp riddled soldier of the heresy.

If you want them to be more powerful and more expensive you give them a mark, icon and/or veterans of the long war.

If you want them to be renegades who have lost the disciple of being part of a marine chapter then you don't buy any upgrades. They have the same fighting caapability but lose out on ATSKNF and leadership bonus.

People that have used the Forge/Maulter Fiend, can you sell me on this? I've really wanted one, but they just look so terrible on paper. The Ecto FF is great, except 24 inch range is terrible and it seems too easy shake/stun/remove weapon from it. I never understand the two Hades Cannons, whats the point of them? Spend one turn annihilating one light transport for almost 200 points? The Forgefiend just seems so expensive for little to no damage.

The Maulerfiend seems decent with the large charge range and cheaper point cost, but power fists over DCCW seems awful. You get 2 maybe 3 attacks at I1, whats so appealing, the chance to get another one or two from the magma cutters?

I forgot this even existed (Last collected in 1995 which would be 2E?) I suddenly remembered, and just instinctively ordered a parcel of goodies from the UK. Dark angel complete army from Vengeance for 45 bucks (would cost upwards of 70 dollars in AUS). Pretty exited to get back into painting and modeling!

A lot has changes since 1995. Gone are the days of armies of ideintical single posed plastic models. The quality of plastic kits in the last few years has been absolutely amazing.

What part of Aus are you from? There are a few aushams in this thread who'd be happy to give you a game/throw you some bits to get you back into the hobby.

Yeah, I did notice the overall quality of the sculpting is really quite good these days, although many things appear to be a lot smaller, like the dreadnoughts etc. I was young back then so maybe it was just my relative hand size playing tricks. Fewer things seemed to be made of pewter these days though, which is kind of sad.

I'm from Perth incidentally - I walked past the GW in town and spun out, didn't realise we even had them here (we didn't in the 90s - if you couldn't find it in the hobby store it was mail order for you).

What would you say are the biggest changes between 5th and 6th edition? I've been out of the loop for about a year and a half now, not long after the Grey Knights relaunched, and am looking at getting back into some poorly painted models making war on one another.

Random charge range (2d6) and overwatch that hits at BS1. And actual flyers, not just hovering skimmers.

At 1850
19 Ard Boyz in BattleWagon with a Warboss
19 Shoota Boyz in a BattleWagon with a KFF Mek
5 loaded Nob Bikers
3 squads of 6-7 Lootas
1 30 man Boyz squad
1 Dakka Jet

It was just too much poo poo to handle. I focused on his back line a bit much with my Flyers, but its just so much shooting and assault potential. The 30 man Boy squad shot down my Drake snap firing.

If you focus his assault units too much, the range units get you, and vise versa. This guy runs a list like this pretty often, and I swear I've never seen him lose a game like ever.

This is what makes Orcs so crazy good in 6th. They can bring more guns than anyone else and can just pick off flyers with regular guns. I even see Lootas just running across the board snap firing because who cares, you only lose one to your BS, you still have 45 chances to roll some 6's.

This was said once before but it's a common mistake.

Unweildy does not effect MCs or Walkers.

It was a smart choice to move away from 'dccw' since it was exactly the same as a powerfist and there are other dreadnaught close combat weapons out there. It helps reduce confusion for future generations of wargamers.

Unfortunately no. It was done back in 2009 and any WIP photos have long gone by now. There aren't
any hidden processes, I'm sure you could replicate it well enough just by looking at the pictures. I have an unbased and less painted one that I can show closer pictures of if you like.

5th was a fine system but by the end it was clearly getting tired and 6th ed exposed the massive number of kludges and flaws 5th had for the game GW wanted it to be. If they'd stuck with the model of the SM book they'd have been fine, but from Guard (the 2nd loving book of the edition) onwards it was clear they had something else in mind than how 5th ed actually played.

On top of what everyone else said, you need to know that on a 2+ the model ignores crew shaken/stunned. That's the benefit of Daemonic Possession.
