I love that they seriously say nuclear war will come to the Middle East in 2010, but 2011 and 2012, Congress is still messing around with gays and health care.

Because nuclear war/world war 3 is just gonna be a fad, over in a month or two.

I'm in yellow. The guy is read is always going on about them horrible socialist liberal crybabies. Really, like 50% of his facebook page is some stupid bumper sticker phrase or "LOL STUPID LIBERALS" image macro. He's a very outspoken evangelical (which I have no problem with, and actually admire that he tries to understand his faith in depth), but I think he is truly purblind to how his FYGM/boostraps regurgitation is oftentimes contrary to the religion he follows.

I used to try to engage him and his friends in serious, rational discussions and back up my claims and debunkings with facts, but more often than not I'd still end up with him or his buddies just ignoring the point and attacking strawmen. I found that making a direct emotional appeal seems a lot more effective in terms on getting them to consider other viewpoints, or recognize the dissonance between their beliefs and reality. Well, up to a certain point.

I seriously want to make a conservative Bible. Not of the Andy Schlafly variety (although considering how crazy he is, it wouldn't surprise me that they'd come out nearly the same), but taking out all instances of Jesus preaching about forgiveness and tolerance and replacing it with guns, bootstraps, and vengeance. I'd bet hard money that quite a few in the American right would see it as an improvement.

40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 41 And REPUBLICAN JESUS, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and held out a pair of bootstraps. And Jesus said unto him, "Who thinkest thou art, to ask for healing. Knowest thou that healthcare is a right, not a privilege?" Mark 1:40-41

3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?......7 So when they continued asking him, REPUBLICAN JESUS lifted up himself, and said unto them, "Killeth the bitch. Dost though not know that mercy, forgiveness, and self-reflection are the scourge of the liberals?" John 8:3-7

20 Looking at his disciples, REPUBLICAN JESUS said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. "gently caress you, got mine". Luke 6:20-21

My mom was sent a video tonight about a man who is 'so sick of this all!' Despite saying both parties are to blame for wasteful spending, he spent several minutes asking WHY Michelle Obama had to visit South Africa ON OUR TAX DOLLARS AND BACKS OF THE RETIRED AND SOCIAL SECURITY GETTERS and why Congress and the President won't take lower pay and poo poo insurance because everyone else clearly has to.

I lost it when the guy said that most people who make 250K a year are small business owners, and THEY employ 70% of Americans and Obama wants to tax them to death. No, Mom, I'm not being argumentative by saying 'prove it.' I'm asking for facts beyond some white man yelling about Obama wasting money.

No, the points are NOT valid. I can say Romney is Muslim till I'm blue in the face, and that doesn't make it TRUE. Saying something does not make it true!

Instead of "prove it," I just ask if they have a link to Obama actually saying /doing whatever it is. IF I get a link, it will be from one of the usual suspects. But usually they end the conversation. I also get prayed for a lot.

I shot him a message with 8 links to news articles debunking everything she said.

I also pointed out that socialism doesn't mean what he thinks it does and that his frequent dismissal of my education had finally come to an end because I actually have an advanced degree in political science and I, if anyone, am fit to actually define what socialism is.

I'm really, REALLY tired of the religious right and their persecution complex and reality denial. I don't even blame it on people like my friend - I blame it on the media that feeds their fear.

I got in a debate with a classmate the other day, and his definition of socialism was, "socialism is telling people what to think." Don't bother with the long history of socialism, its origins in the industrial revolution, its change from a radicalist approach to an approach that favors small reforms through the system over time. Don't mind the fact that moderate socialist-type societies and regulated capitalism can and do exist together (social democracy) in several countries. Nope, socialism is telling people what to think.

The problem with the definition of socialism, at least in the US, is that everyone agrees it's bad but no one can really define what it actually is.

That's because what it actually is takes time to explain and an understanding of real economics.

I'm not a huge fan of socialism - I think that, with regulation, private industries do just fine. However, being able to explain, in detail what socialism is, what its goals are, and all that requires time these people don't have. So they just agree that it's anti-American, and therefore anti-Democracy and religion and everything else they believe is "American."

It has, like "liberal", just become another phrase for them. I laugh even harder when someone calls Obama a Marxist. At that point I ask them to explain the difference between Marxism, communism and socialism. I get nothing but blank stares at that point. Arguing political theory with me (not to sound conceited) is far out of most peoples' depths. Then again, I've spent nearly 8 years studying it.

Even more laughable when you take into consideration that liberal does not equal socialist, and while the European Social-Democracies have several socialist-type policies, they are not socialist. But many people operate on a slippery-slope judgement. Once there is one socialist-type policy considered or enacted, you might as well redistribute everything, make everyone work on agricultural communes, and distribute Chairman Obama's little red book.

I really hope Obama announces himself as being a HomoIslamoFascoSocialist the day after the election and mandates gay marriages for everyone.

I was at CVS waiting for a prescription and found a book titled "Common Myths from the Bible." The entire purpose of the book was to take stuff like "turn the other cheek," "it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for the rich to go into heaven," and show how the bible actually wants you to do the opposite. The entire purpose of the book was to justify acting like a complete rear end in a top hat and further the gently caress you got mine mentality that permeates christianity today.

Well, from what I saw of the form, even with the wrong name, they got a lot of the exceptions and details right (or at least close enough). For example, the penalty is prorated by the number of months you didn't have insurance. How does Massachusetts handle all of that, or are there just not any exceptions?

Pretty much the same in MA. It's based on the number of months.

I believe that MA also allows you to be without insurance for a period (three months?) without penalty, which I think is pretty much because many companies don't start providing benefits until after some probationary period.

Not so much a forward as a screed, this comes from a guy I was friends with in college who went insane when Obama won 4 years ago. I've blocked his posts from appearing in my feed because the constant Breitbart.com posts and quotes from Mark Levin got to be a bit much, but I still visit his page once or twice a week to get a good idea on how deep down the rabbit hole this guy goes. There's no point in arguing with him, but when I read this I felt it belonged here. Enjoy!

Guy I know on Facebook posted:

There are so many reasons to vote for Obama.

Where does one even start? For instance, when he took office, unemployment was 7.6%, but now (thanks to the MILLIONS of people that have dropped out of the work force, and thus are not factored in to the unemployment equation) it is only 7.9%! Sure, it's not the 5.2% that Obama promised, but it's a start! And he only spent $5 Trillion tax payer dollars to get this INCREASE in unemployment!!

And if THAT's not enough of a reason to vote for Obama, then just consider the brilliant, successful, and endlessly charitable family man that is running against him! After all, THAT GUY probably just got all of his success by stabbing people in the back, being greedy, and firing people! Because WE ALL KNOW that anyone who is rich is the ENEMY, and only became so DISHONESTLY!

So let's vote for the (other rich) guy that lies about his inaction that resulted in the preventable deaths of four Americans last month, and then lied about the cause of the tumult from which they needed to be saved, in order to paint Americans as "anti-muslim" and intolerant. YEAH!!

Let's vote for the guy who "fights for the middle class" by stealing their tax money and dumping it into hopelessly flawed "green energy" projects that seem to simultaneously a) go bankrupt, and b) line the pockets of his supporters!! YEAH!!

And let's vote for the guy who will not release ANY documented info about his life prior to coming on to the public scene (grades, medical records, etc.) AND released a phony birth certificate (yes, it's phony, and if you disagree then you yourself need a certificate of a different sort) and yet publicly demanded that his challenger (the brilliant, successful, endlessly charitable business/family man) release his tax records to the public, because, you know, RICH PEOPLE ARE EEEEVIL (once they become rich anyway, before that they're fine), despite the fact that he (Obama) has a LARGER pension than Romney, and ALSO has tons of money "stashed" in the "tax haven" Caymen Islands!

FOUR MORE YEARS!!! FOUR MORE YEARS!!!

It's pretty amazing. Notice he calls the Birth certificate phony (he's a Pam Geller fan) and thinks that Romney is "Endlessly Charitable". In the past, he's written "It's not Romney vs. Obama. It's Liberty vs. Tyranny". The day before the Obamacare decision was handed down, he was crowing about how the "O-bots" would be calling for the impeachment of the Supreme Court. After is was upheld, he posted nothing for three days, and then said the country he grew up in was dead.

He was really funny in college though!
