I think you have to open the 5.1 firmware in redsn0w before it lets you jailbreak.

Just don't upgrade? Or upgrade and get Maps+, which is a free google maps app. Or use the web google maps.

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.3 that is currently locked to the Softbank network which I used to use in Japan.

I had been waiting for a software unlock for about a year when I gave up, ditched my old Nokia and bought a Gevey sim. It's working fine for my Australian carrier but I'd love to be in a more recent firmware. I only have 4.3.3 firmware SHSH blobs saved and I assume Apple stopped signing for anything other than iOS 6 a while ago right?

Am I basically stuck untill gevey is tested for iOS 6 or they release a new sim?

Don't know a lot about Gevey sims but iOS 5 has indeed been ceased from being signed. If there's any question of them working on iOS 6, I think you are stuck.

My wife has a jailbroken iphone 4 and apparently we never sync'd it to this computer when it was new close to a year ago.. Anyway, the only options I have now are setup a new phone or restore from a backup. Would using the setup a new iphone option completely kill everything that was on the phone before or would it create the new profile and back everything up?

I'm looking for a specific tweak but I can't seem to find anything that will suit my needs. I want apps that are in the dock to 'bounce' when there is a notification for that app, instead of a notification badge. I'd like it to bounce the same way an app would in the dock on the desktop of a Mac.

I know about Bounce and Animate Dock in Cydia but from what I can see, they make app icons bounce continuously, independent of the presence of any notifications.

Help?

I'm having a hell of a time removing my JB and restoring my iPhone 4 to 5.1.1. This device is being sold (picked up an iPhone 5) and I want to wipe it but keep it at 5.1.1. So far, I tried redsn0w to restore it with the 5.1.1 ipsw and it keeps failing, I still have all the blobs saved but I keep getting the failure.

I also just tried the normal shift+click to install the ipsw, but keep getting error 3194. And yes my hosts are set properly so that probably isn't the issue.

Is there any other route to take to just remove the JB and stay with 5.1.1?

edit: finally got it restored after several attempts, nothing to see here.

Edit: Figured it out. Got my shsh blobs from TinyUmbrella, used redsn0w to install 5.1.1, I'll just sell it as-is like that and the buyer can choose whether to jailbreak it.

All I ended up doing was making sure that I had the correct ipsw for 5.1.1. Then I just used redsn0w and used the "even more" function in the program, kicked the phone into "pwned dfu mode" or whatever it's called, commented out the hosts file for Apple servers, and then restored my firmware by selecting the ipsw. It worked just fine through there, didn't use iTunes at all to restore.

I've used MCbackup from the appstore. You can export contacts to Vcard or CSV and it will email you the file. Quick and simple.

This is cool but when I output it to CSV it only preserves the phone numbers of about half of my 109 contacts.

I've got a strange issue with my 5.1.1 iPhone 4s. The phone keeps locking up when I try to delete apps. I'm loathe to continue testing it, but two apps I grabbed for one time use refuse to delete. They wiggle, and then when I tap the X they just wiggle forever and I can't do anything on the phone.

Comments? I'm not pressed to delete these apps and I'm content to hopefully ride this load out until the JB for 6 is out but has anyone experienced something like this?

How would I sync to Gmail on the phone? Sorry for the braindead questions, I haven't hooked this guy up to my computer in forever.

Jailbreaking pertinent question too: how can I unjailbreak my 5.1 iPhone 4 without necessitating a factory reset? Just upgrade to 6 from itunes?

Quick question here: My power button has become sticky, seems like whatever connector was between the button and the board has slipped and now I have to press down quite hard to activate it. Needless to say, I was going to take it to the Apple store in the hopes that there is an easy fix (read: they replace it).

I've got it jail broken though, pretty sure that to have them even consider looking at it I'll have to do a system restore, correct? What steps do I need to take to back up and restore it if they replace/if they don't replace.

It took like 4 months for the 4S--and I can't imagine Apple's creating a whole bunch of new vulnerabilities in their new hardware/software. Short answer: It'll get here when (read:if) it gets here.

This isn't unusually long, plus there are already tethered hacks out for pre A5x devices.

Besides a broken map and ones iPenis size there's not much to get me excited about iOS 6. For my iPad I'd much rather have windows (Quasar) than siri.

What killer features does everyone else really want that they can't wait to ditch 5.1.1?

Apple has spent the past half-decade hardening these things against jailbreaks.

There hasn't been a baseband cracked in over two years, and devices like the Apple TV 3 have had virtual zero progress made on them. Apple knows exactly how older devices were hacked, so they spend a ton of time focusing on protecting precisely that from happening again.
Each previous jailbreak helped Apple learn a little bit more on how to prevent them.

That being said, there may be a new jailbreak tomorrow, or never.

Miss-Bomarc
Aug 1, 2009
They haven't been baseband-hacked because now that you can get a CDMA iPhone (and GSM ones aren't AT&T-exclusive) there's really no point.

I still want a jailbreak, though. Apple is stubbornly refusing to put settings toggles on an easily-accessible menu, which means I still want SBSettings. And, of course, the Star Trek communicator noise for the unlock sound.

Actually--if I do a tethered jailbreak, change some UI sounds, and then reboot, the sounds would stay changed, right?

Plug your dock connector in and lightly press downwards on it. Is should push the contact assembly back up towards the home button making presses easier.

The reason this happens is because the contact points for the home button are part of the dock connector piece while the button itself floats above in the front panel. Knocks and general use move the dock connector down into the body over time.

thank you, but it's actually the button on top of the phone. The power button/unlock button. I imagine it's the same reason though.

e: Update: I called Apple support because gently caress the genius bar unless i need to go there, and I was told it's technically covered so I should be able to get a replacement/repair done for free. I hope so, because this poo poo sucks.

edit2: 2nd Update: Just got back from the apple store, they straight up replaced the device, but now I think I'm stuck in os6 now. I might've backed up my SHSH blobs somewhere, what's the process of taking a "new" OS6 4S back to the 5.1.1 I had jailbroken if I have my blobs.

edit3: 3rd Update :siren: It's actually running 5.1.1, a fact I discovered when the familiar badge appeared above settings. To jailbreak this all I need is the latest absinthe, correct?

Say. It. With. Me.
My friend has an iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0.2 which she asked me to unlock for her.

I made a stupid mistake and forgot to put it into DFU before trying to restore with the custom firmware I made with ifaith.

I, of course, got an error and have been stuck in some strange DFU/recovery limbo ever since.

Itunes tells me that it's in recovery mode and redsn0w tells me it's in DFU.

If I try and "recovery fix" in redsn0w it gets stuck at "patching files."

Redsn0w says it puts it into DFU mode and I've tried restoring in itunes but at the end of the restore itunes tells me that the phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. (meanwhile the restoring process seems to work properly, itunes responds and the ifaith logo appears but at the end the phone still looks like it's in recovery mode.)

Any ideas?

EDIT: A TinyUmbrella "fix recovery" results in a white screen on the phone.

EDIT 2: All recovery programs I've tried seem to do little. Redsn0w identifies it as the correct firmware but it seems stuck. I'd hate to have to install stock firmware and lose the baseband.
