I'll be driving up from Alabama to Boston in March, I'm thinking seriously about hitting DC/NY/MA in a three day binge.

Got a floor for Montreal for 80$ , I'm going to wait for general sale for Ottawa as tickets are only 41$, 51$, or 61$ and presale is 77$ plus the 10$ fee.

I saw some talk about this here, so I'd figure I'd share my little bit.

Just got two floor tickets for Sigur Ros in Boston. I mean, almost having a nervous breakdown while waiting for them to go on sale didn't kill me. Hopefully the anticipation as I wait for March to roll around doesn't.

I saw them supporting.. Mono I think at Corporation in Sheffield, and they were pretty good. First exposure to them so I think I'd enjoy them more knowing a bit more of their stuff.

Though I mostly remember that a) their drummer is really, really good but doesn't really look the part.. and b) the main guy spent the whole set thanking us for coming and watching them. I'm a sucker for Irish accents so that was ace.

They're the kind of band that if you've heard one of their songs, you've heard em all. They have a formula that they just tweak around for their different songs, but that's okay with me because I love the formula they use :shobon:

I like Album Leaf when they don't sing, and when they don't use electronic percussion. When they do either of those things it annoys me.

More or less. Besides One Day...The album I can think of with the most tracks that I like is In a Safe Place but even that has songs like "Always For You" which to me just sound bad. His voice is immensely dis-pleasurable. I love "Over the Pond" but that's Jonsi singing and it pretty much sounds like a Sigur Ros song.

Also, their drumbeats are often way wayyy too samey, even when it's not a electric loop. So, I generally like the more ambient side of the band. Songs like "The Sailor" and "Streamside" are perfect and wish they were all more in that vein

Have any of you guys listened to the newest Swans album? They aren't usually considered a post-rock band as far as I know but this album definitely has a lot of Godspeed influence, mixed with some industrial-sounding production.

I really like this track (A Piece of the Sky), the first nine minutes are a gorgeous orchestral drone that builds up: http://open.spotify.com/track/7Io7zGXuWrDC2MTLJJ5QNI

The disruptive powers of excessive national fecundity may have played a greater part in bursting the bonds of convention than either the power of ideas or the errors of autocracy.
Either way, yes, The Seer was brought up a few pages back when it was first released. It's an amazing album, although it did lose a bit of its punch over a few listens.

Swans have been around since the early 80s doing similar and more avant-garde versions of The Seer style of music. I would be very surprised if GYBE weren't trying to recreate the power of some early Swans in their music from the very beginning. So yeah, what that other guy said.

I remember I described Seer as the most difficult album I've ever heard, and I still stand on that statement. I don't listen to it often, but I appreciate it on its own merits.

Edit: I found this article, it's kind of interesting, mostly comes down to "post rock is really hard to define because it was music that actively fought definition."

If you think Seer is difficult, try listening to Filth or Cop.

Though, Seer is still a hard album to listen to for its sheer length. I can listen to the shorter tracks like Mother of the World or Seer Returns all the time, but as a whole it's a very stressful album to dive into. That's Swans for you.

Just out of chance I noticed a post rock band called vessels were playing near me last night, went and had a look. Support act was terrible but vessels themselves were amazing - a lot better than I expected at the small dive bar they were playing at.
