Aeros Wilhelm posted:I'm getting NSMBU and AC3 with my premium (meaning Nintendoland as well). All of the Kirby games for the Wii are good though they're easy. They're the kind of game you kick back and relax with. Skyward Sword is the best put together 3D Zelda in my view (Wind Waker had better parts but gently caress that pointless, time wasting sailing). So they're both good picks. Pretty much any first party stuff for the Wii is really well put together including all the things that no one talks about like ExciteTruck/Bots, Rhythm Heaven Fever, and Sin and Punishment. And there's plenty of good third party games that no one ever talks about because people ignored the Wii like Muramasa, Klonoa (remake of a PS1 game that's done really well), and the de Blob series. The Wiimote functions best as a pointing device so all of the light gun games are a lot of fun; the two Resident Evil Chronicles games, the House of the Dead games, and Ghost Squad come to mind immediately. Hell, I even like the port of Trackmania for the Wii because of the four player split screen multiplayer modes.

A couple more good ones are the Trauma Center games (and Trauma Team, which is the third game after Second Opinion and New Blood), de Blob 1&2, GoldenEye 007, Mario Party 8, Red Steel 2 (avoid the first Red Steel, it's really bad) and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Plus, speaking from a European perspective, Wonderful 101 won't even make that, and I'd be genuinely surprised if Pikmin 3 doesn't get pushed back until Q3. Rayman seems like the only quality game that will actually be out in the foreseeable future after launch. Like its been pointed out, they are not even announcing games for after the 'launch window' because, lets say a New 3d Mario of Zelda was announced for a July release. A lot of people would skip getting the console at launch and figure they will pick it up in summer. More games are coming. I think 'launch window' is some market researched timeframe where its close enough for people to want the console day 1. I'll give them this, they clearly defined what they meant by 'launch window' from the moment they announced things.

On the topic of ZombiU, I actually played it at PAX Prime. And I feel like what I played was a really good cross section of the game. You were in Buckingham Palace I believe. You were trying to get out. You have to play the game slow. You have to scan around using the game pad to find possibly hidden items, or to determine if a dead body is a live zombie. I got to shoot things with a scope, I got to shoot things with a regular gun, I got to use a lot of melee. Basically I feel like I went through everything the game has to offer and came out really enjoying the experience the game provided. The demo let us play two characters to either death or success. My first character died early because I was playing like it was another zombie shooter. My second character got much farther. I had to deal with zombies that were on fire, zombies in riot gear that I had to melee the helmets off of, spitting zombies, and regular zombies. I came SO CLOSE. But in the end I got just a little too cocky and died. To me, the game worked mechanically well. I feel like perhaps this may just be a case where the concept doesn't grab everyone.

This was all just my experience though, and to be fair I tend to be a bit more forgiving of games. But this is a game I'll be picking up based on that demo.

I don't really have much interest in ZombiU but it's pretty disheartening to see people jump on one leaked review when there have been lots of examples of scores ranging across the board for recent releases. Some reviewers absolutely hated the Double Dragon remake that came out recently and others loved it. So maybe if anyone is interested they should wait until tomorrow when more than a single review is out there. Or just ignore reviews and get things you think look fun and take a gamble. It's not like there aren't a million ways to flip a game, especially during the christmas season and a console launch. ONE YEAR LATER fucked around with this message at 16:18 on Nov 17, 2012 |

Honestly the only people I listen to with game reviews are regular people. These gaming sites, no matter how well staffed, have to cram two dozen games in one week and get the reviews all up by tomorrow. Even if you divvy it up between 3 or 4 writers its still a monster undertaking and all you're really getting are rushed, initial impressions. Not to mention the fact that the online features of said game are not even active at the moment, making reviews even more difficult to take at face value. Nintendo really should have pushed their day 1 patch on Friday to give reviewers enough time to investigate the online features of each game, the netcode, the miiverse integration, etc. As it stands the only reviews you'll see that get a fair, full glimpse into the games, are from people on this very forum.
