Ugh, 4.2 made everything so laggy on my Nexus 7. I rolled back to 4.1.2 and everything is so much smoother now. I was really looking forward to multi-user support but I guess I will keep waiting. Oh well.

With multi-user support, is it robust enough that I can have a work user and a personal user on the same tablet and nothing will spill between the two? Are they completely separate?

Both profiles can even have separate secure logins (eg one having pattern unlock and one having PIN).

Interesting, i updated to 4.2 on my nexus 7 and the verge is no longer slow on chrome anymore. Wonder if it's 4.2, an update to chrome, or the verge updated their website that fixed this.

My idle battery drain is TERRIBLE on 4.2. I left my Nexus 7 sit overnight, it was at 91% when I put it down. It lost 30% battery overnight even though it had only around 4 minutes of awake time. The thing is only been off charge for 10 hours and has 1 hour of screen on time and I'm down to 60% battery. It's losing around 3% battery per hour just idling. That's worse than my Galaxy Nexus idling on LTE. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 19:06 on Nov 17, 2012 |

I haven't heard too many complaints from GSM GNex users though. I'm thinking about rolling back or trying an AOSP build a goon buddy is building with some 4.2 stupidness removed. I've left the OS stock up until now but unlocked the bootloader first thing when I got it in case of something like this.

Is anyone able to change their profile pic on Android 4.2? When I slide down the settings drawer I'm greeted with this horrible old pic that I had on my forgotten Google+ profile. Now no matter what I do it won't let me change it. I thought it was tied to Google+, but even changing my profile picture there isn't working. edit: Forget it, I think one of Google's photo upload servers was temporarily down or something because all of a sudden it's working now. Other than thinking the new lock screen widgets are useless (and the lockscreen clock, which I can't permanently remove is hideously ugly), I haven't really noticed any substantial differences on 4.2. I like the idea of the dual notification shade / settings shade...but implementing it in portrait orientation on a 7" tablet is kinda dumb. Seems like the two finger pull down solution on phones would've been better.

Maker Of Shoes posted:After you've changed it on your Google Profile (also tied to G+) do a manual resync in Settings>Accounts. Worked for me. This solution seems to work reliably, thanks! Pretty insane that it doesn't simply change your picture when you click "upload new picture." Feels like a straight-up bug. Cakefool posted:I can't be the only one who's fine with the dual shades on portrait, surely? Once you get used to it it's fine, but it's pretty bad from a UX perspective and probably really confusing for people who don't actively follow tech blogs and therefore know about this functionality in advance. You're given no indication whatsoever of where to drag your finger, and no indication that two shades even exist! If you drag down from the center of the screen, it's like you're flipping a coin as to which one will open, which is super bad because users have been training themselves to drag from the center of the screen for years. I think the issue would be partly solved if the shades actually animated diagonally from the upper left / upper right corners, to train users in thinking that one comes from the upper left and one comes from the upper right. Because right now they both animate from roughly the middle, which doesn't reinforce the new behavior they're trying to teach. Plus yeah, that rubber banding effect... dear god... It's also buggy as hell. Pull down the quick notification shade and then drag your finger down from the top of the screen again. You'll notice that the shade keeps being pulled down even though your finger is no where near the edge.

For anyone who's interested , Chameleon , the tablet focused launcher , is currently on sale on the google play store. Haven't tried it myself , but the reviews are mixed. I've already bought Apex and Adw, so it's a bit hard to justify buying another.. here's the link to their site. http://www.chameleonlauncher.com/

The worst thing about the new update is that Screen Filter doesn't work with it. I forgot how blindingly bright this thing is when trying to read in the dark. What are some good alternatives to use while they are working on an update to the app?

I rolled back to 4.1.2 on my Nexus 7 and I've got everything back they way I like it but now these constant notifications that an update is available whenever I unlock it are driving me crazy. Anyone know how to stop this from happening? All of the instructions I can find involve renaming/deleting stuff in /system/apps that doesn't seem to exist in mine or freezing apps with Titanium backup that are also not in my list.
