Why would that be though? The contacts are the only things exposed, and they are the only things that need cleaning.

Now that imgur is no longer being a dick, I got some goodies in the mail as well today.![]() I would've had these last Friday, but a medical emergency kept me out of the home just long enough to miss the mailman. Also I knew that you have better luck tracing down CIB stuff in Japan, but drat. They really know how to take care of their stuff. ![]() Also this came in from Hong Kong today, and 2 weeks ahead of schedule even. Looks just as great as the SFC games above, but even more astounding is how loving tiny the box is. ![]() Seriously, look at this, and I don't have that big of hands to begin with. Also yeah it's kinda out of focus, my camera sucks for up-close shots.

You could have just bought a $.99 sports title and swapped the case if the price was reasonable, y'know. Oh, wait, that's a dual disc case, but still, maybe some lovely $5 game, then if it was more than just the clear part.

![]() ![]() So have you wanted to fly to japan to buy a bunch of old, cheap japanese games but can't actually afford the flight/stay? Or have you wanted to order games from japan only to balk at the shipping? Well, it's time to introduce you to Rakuten. Rakuten is a online storefront for a ton of asian stores. Some of those stores sell used video games. Those games are pretty drat cheap. There are a few catches to Rakuten though. First, under normal circumstances standard shipping from japan is insanely high. Second, they only act as an intermediary between you and the stores you buy from. Third, when you're browsing products, most of the pages are machine translated, so it can be hard to find exact things you want. When you place an order with Rakuten, they give you an estimated cost. A day or two later, the store/s will email you with the final cost + shipping. They then ask you to email back with confirmation that you want the item and to ship it. With this in mind, it's advised to select one shop and shop only from them. Goon recommended is Surugaya-a-too. Other points: -If the item is pictured as the box/case, it is a full set. Games that don't have boxes are usually pictured as cart only. -My first Rakuten order was about 30 SNES games and a couple accessories. 9 of the games were in boxes. Shipping was $80. Now, with that all said, ![]() ![]() And here's my haul: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() HKR fucked around with this message at 04:56 on Nov 20, 2012 |

There's a ton of cheap stuff to take advantage of on Rakuten, but I can't bring myself to spend as much at once as you need for the free shipping at this time. ![]() It sucks even more since I saw this while browsing around and I'm fairly confident it's the first in the Wizardry COYA series, and would go great with the other two I have.

In between my last post and this post, I got a lot better at Asuka 120%. But what I really want to say is, $123 is a lot to spend on games! IF anyone's looking to spend less but still get in on the free shipping deal, anyone wanna coordinate ordering for two people at once and then splitting it up when it gets here? Would cost about an extra $10 for shipping once it gets to the USA, I guess. Who knows, I might take it back and just spend the money.

That Rakuten deal comes at such a lovely time for me. I'm currently saving up for a trip to ![]() ![]() ![]() Speaking of which, my travel route goes by Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo, week on each locale, meaning I have well enough time to scour for retro goodies. Are there any "must hit" places in Osaka or Kyoto? I hear there's a similar district to Akihabara in Osaka and Kyoto most likely has its share of retro gaming stores. edit: actually, it seems Europe is poo poo out of luck for free shipping (or even 4000 yen off shipping). There's no mention of eligibility outside of China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, Canada and Australia. jyrque fucked around with this message at 09:44 on Nov 20, 2012 |

jyrque posted:Osaka/Kyoto retro games I was in Kyoto for about a month this past summer, and it's a bit of a retro wasteland. Most of the stores around are kind of lovely 100 yen shops or stores called "Gamers" that sell crappy anime stuff. That being said, I did manage to find a pretty good retro store. All I really remember about it was that it was tiny, packed with games for dirt cheap prices, and located within half a mile of the Kinkakuji. I'll try and dig through my pictures and get some more specifics, but it should be located near one of the subway stations on Imadegawa. The rest of the decent stores in Kyoto are mostly nationwide chains (Book-Off, Wonder GOO), and the ones in the Tokyo area generally have better selection so you might as well wait. As for Osaka, Den Den Town is the place to go for electronics of any sort. People actually seem to prefer Den Den Town to Akihabara to some extent nowadays. Also, Den Den Town is not nearly as infested with the "Moe" tide that hit Akihabara. Also, when you're in Akihabara, you should hit up the big black obelisk-looking building called Mandarake. One of its floors is all retro games and they have decent prices. Bit of general travel advice! When in Osaka, go to the area around Osaka Tower at night and bring a friend (for company/safety). You will probably see Japanese women in leopard print pants with their wife-beater wearing pot-bellied boyfriends and be unable to find a place that serves non-fried food. It's a bit surreal. EDIT: Nevermind about Kyoto being a retro wasteland, google has revealed Goon-favorite Rakuten shop Suruga-ya A-too is apparently located there (and I didn't even know ![]() Nancy fucked around with this message at 11:10 on Nov 20, 2012 |

There's also have a few other consoles and a Street Fighter II cabinet. The consoles are free to play, but SFII cab is only free on Thursdays. It's a brightly lit place, the atmosphere is pretty chill and the staff are friendly. It's a great place to play some games and enjoy a beer. They're also involved with the local Chip-tune scene. A few of the staff are DJs, they sell CDs of local and international acts and have info about related events.
