Go and get it. I live in Ottawa so it's basically a day trip on a Sat or Sun. You ship it to them, show up with with ID and pay storage. Buffalo does it too IIRC.

Oh my god, thank you for saying this. My Holly is territorial and not yet litter trained (not spayed yet), so I've been covering my bed with a plastic tablecloth and flannel sheet (and she, of course, finds an uncovered section and pees on it). I had no idea picnic blankets had waterproof backing, I was convinced I was going to have to buy one of those special sex blankets or something.

The cute lionhead rabbit was gone when I called about him :(

The rescue has the most beautiful rabbit I've ever seen in my whole life, but she's female and so is Bun, so I'm not sure how well they'd bond, she didn't take to the previous female (but they were both unspayed at the time). If I did take the beautiful rabbit, I'd get her spayed before introducing them.

They also had a lovely large male lop, but I won't be able to take him until next week, as he's going to be neutered, and the rescue guy said 'sometimes they don't make it' :(
I'd like to have taken him and gotten my vet to neuter, but he didn't seem to like that idea.

So now I'm torn - beautiful heart-stealer female bun, or easier-to-bond male lop?

Why can't I adopt ALL the bunnies?

DS at Night

I love my dopey lop boy to bits and would recommend one to everybody. But he's also beautiful so that's the best of two worlds.

Also the risk of one not surviving a neuter is really really small. Barring some kind of horrible reaction to the anaesthetic there's no reason for him to not be okay.

do the lop! Paterson is a German lop. He looks angry all the time and has a flat face. His ears cover his eyes mostly. He is far from the prettiest thing but he is my sweet man and he's so handsome and I love him so much. He is SO easy to love and everything that he does, good or bad, is the sweetest thing ever.

I am forever suspicious of female rabbits.

He is adorable. What a squdgy face!

This is the female bun they have at the shelter

Isn't she gorgeous? I am smitten with that little face. But I think I'll hold out for the lop boy instead. He's huge and white and floofy.

Rabbits seem to inspire a lot of made up words and high pitched talk from me.

Also require pictures of a lionhead who looks like santa.

EDIT: actually, every time I post a pic in a thread, they're gone when I eventually decide to adopt them. I'm going to stop jinxing it now :/

Even though they have hay in their feeder in the freshly cleaned litterbox they are more interested in the bag sitting on the floor. SOMEONE (coughBitsycough) ripped a Toonie sized hole in the side of those bag that they have been mashing their faces into. I don't really mind because they actually eat the pieces that they pull out instead of throwing them all over like they do in their box.

his front legs aren't even on the ground.

Oh yeah he's definitely slow in the head. I give him a treat, he drops it, sits down on it then frantically starts looking everywhere but under his own rear end. He also tries to jump on things then fails completely, missing by a mile then falling down in a big hairy heap of feet and ears. Then he'll go cuddle up to my dwarf demon and falls asleep about two seconds after she bit him in the face. I kind of can't tell if he's incredibly stupid or just that content in life.

Peanut and Snoopy are doing well, so drat curious all the time. We're trying to slowly integrate them with the rest of the house, allowing them into different sections all the time. It's so hot at the moment so they tend to just flop down on the coolest tiles they can find.

Peanut still drops little turds half the time which is irritating, and Snoopy likes to taste things like antique dining-room chairs. Unfortunately Snoopy has also taken to dry-humping Peanut, who desperately tries to escape. The local vet was 99% sure that Snoopy is a girl though, so I guess it's the hormones playing up.

They're around 3-4 months now and my brother is a vet, I'm trying to get him to help me find a vet who is familiar with rabbits so that they can be spayed soon. South Africa in general can be lovely to try find stuff over the net, but I know that the major vet hospital 1.5 hours away has a specialist department for this stuff so we can always go there.

The little buggers are also Houdini's in training. We have a pretty secure pen setup for them, but every now and then you'll see a little black/white face poking around the corner of a room, and they never leave any trace of how they got out.

Humping can also be a dominance thing (rape). Bitsy humps Paterson and he's only okay with it if she's humping his face. If she humps his butt he gets really upset.

Asshat and Moron got a new thing today: a water dish they can't tip over. Now they can drink without waging war on the nozzle of that bottle. Asshat immediately tried her darndest to destroy it and Moron stuck his whole face + front paws in it then spent ten minutes washing himself. I think he was trying to snort it.

Overall I think it was a success.

Paterson sits in the water dish and grooms himself too!

In other news: Bitsy played with me last night! I handed her zipties one by one while she threw them all over the room. This went on for 5 minutes before she figured out that we were playing and thumped and ran away.

I cannot remember the last time that we played.

My Lop is much more aloof/antisocial than evil, but has a similar attitude to interacting with anyone. I can get away with a few seconds of petting when she's in a treat munching euphoria, but once she realizes what's going on she hops away with the most dramatic of foot flicks. Of course once she's crossed half the room doing this she stops and turns, as if to make sure I was watching the whole display.

I can't help but laugh at the whole thing, even if it is the bunny equivalent of "eff you".

This little Lionhead is Peanut, born July 27th, 2012. My boyfriend and I adopted her from a breeder. She has brought us both so much happiness!

This is her at about 4 months old. She loves sleeping in her straw hut.

She loves to dig at towels and blankets.

Peanut's favorite place to rest is in front of our bedroom window. She likes to take naps in the sunlight.

Whenever I am doing my homework, she constantly bites at the pages of my books and attempts to tear my papers to shreds. Eventually she gets tired and stretches out next to Mommy.

I hope you all enjoy these photos of Peanut! She is a fantastic little rabbit and she brings so much joy to our lives. I couldn't be happier.

That bunny is so cute that it's caused this entire thread to grind to a halt.

Such incredible power wielded by something so insignificant. It's almost poetic.

Or it would be if the bunny wouldn't immediately try and eat the paper on which the poem was printed.

What water dish is this? I've been trying heavier and heavier dishes for ages and somehow Frith's fat rear end manages to knock them all over if he wants to.

In other news, Zen is at the vet and I'm 5000 miles away and am freaking out because the prognosis is definitely not good. :(

I got a dish that you can screw into the cage so it's totally immobile, it's the only way I'd let them have water like that. I doubt the brand or store location would help much as I'm Dutch.

Haven't heard back from my vet or bunnysitter yet for the last few hours. Apparently something like one of the lumbar vertebrae is deteriorating for some reason. She can sort of walk and can groom herself but has difficulty really moving around and getting in and out of the litter box. From what the vet says already there's a small chance things will be fixed with antibiotics but a much bigger chance that it will stay this way or get worse, even with antibiotics and pain meds. Am freaking out. I'll be home in a little more than 24 hours. I feel so horrible for not being there with her when this happened.

Just heard back. Really chilling words, she'll have to be on long term pain meds and anti-inflammatories. He "can't predict how long she will be able to maintain". This sounds like vet-speak for my baby girl is going to be in pain until she dies. :(

Taco Defender
Good luck angelicism. I just had an issue like this with one of my 8 year olds, I found him laid out in his litterbox dragging himself in circles with his front legs. X-ray showed a possible tumor forming in L1. A few days of metacam got him upright again, but given his age and the inoperability of the situation we opted not to do any aggressive treatment, just maintain him till he showed by his quality of life that he needs to be euthanized.

That was a month ago. The little poo poo has shown almost a complete recovery. I have him in a large petstore cage on aspen bedding instead of in a pen with a litterbox, but otherwise he runs around, begs for dinner, and harasses his neighbors just like old days. Your girl may pull through yet!

Zen is home! She has metacam and Zithromax and the vet said I should consider starting her (and, consequently, Frith) on a 3x/week 100mg regiment of glucosamine. She's only ~6, I figured she was too young for arthritis but I guess it can happen any time. :/

She seems to be all right and the vet says she quite likes her pain meds. ;) Gave her a few treats when she got home and she's just sitting pretty now.

Frith is the worst boyfriend ever. He came over, nudged her around a bit, and is now ignoring her. Sigh.

It's really heartbreaking watching her lope around mostly dragging one leg behind her but she seems to be a trooper. I set up a blanket in a sort of step so she can get in and out of the big litter box more easily (there's also a smaller, lower one) and she seems to have figured it out. \o/

I cut an opening in the side of the litterbox for B&P and it's helped them in their desire to use it. I did it using a steak knife so it wasn't too hard. Maybe try that?
