why haven't we had any seriously good sci fi movies in a long time? seems like the late 70s to the late 90s is when all the good sci fi happened and now it's all action movies in the future basically

I think Prometheus killed off any chance of that for another couple years...

tbf it's really not much different than previous star treks, just more action. it's not action i hate, it's when it's clearly just an action movie and they make it sci fi by putting it in the future or in space or whatever.

it's not necessarily what people think of when they think sci fi since it's actually set in the 80s and 90s but it's sort of an alternate past where one big technological change has happened that didn't happen in the real world (not steampunk)

oh there was also a low-budget indie movie about time travel a few years back that i can't recall the name of, but it was worth seeing. iirc it was these two guys who would basically travel back in time to the beginning of the day to play the stock market. anyone remember what movie that was?

i frigging hated cabin in the woods and even the end could not redeem it imo. it was insanely cliche for the first 3/4ths of it and every reviewer who loved it said "bb bbut it was on purpose, its satire!!!!" but thats no excuse to make a poo poo movie. idk i just dont like campy horror at all

I'm kind of disappointed cyberpunk has had maybe like a gran total of 15 books and movies. The only not total poo poo cyberpunk movie was Blade Runner. Arguably the Matrix but other than that...
