I think it's just the difference between Portuguese and Spanish. In America you pretty much only ever hear it pronounced the Spanish way, so I was pretty thrown off the first few times I heard "Jo-say" as well.

Sort of, but it's more of a "zh" sound - it's one of those phonemes that doesn't really exist in in English. Think of the softer J sound in French and you're closer to it. Anyway, on young Redknapp chat - has anyone noticed how with every passing day Jamie looks a bit more like his dad (with a bit of Frank Lampard Sr. mixed in, which is weird as they're not related by blood)?  I bet Louise has noticed, and been horrified, by it...
