mesc posted:Cool story from your buddy but they have the 32gb on the website right now. That's because it's a web-only item. The 16GB started out as a web-only item as well before it became an in-store item. They won't be making it an in-store item and, once it sells out online, they most likely won't restock it.

I haven't had any reboots on 4.2.1. Battery drain is still bad but those are mostly from Now and G+, same on my phone.

What exactly is the point of having a screen resolution higher than 1280x800 if all the apps and even the OS isn't going to do anything with it? For example, my ASUS TF700 is 1920x1200, but won't display web pages like it's 1920x1200. I know this because my main desktop is 1920x1080 and web pages on my desktop look nothing like how it is on my tablet. It still acts like it's 1280x800. I also know that 1920x1200 is extremely tiny on the 10" screen as I've used iDisplay to use my tablet as a secondary monitor and used it for my Mumble window and letters were smaller than 1/4". But why is there no middle ground?

How does anyone play games like gta3 on a tablet? The onscreen controls are impossible to manage if you need any degree of fine control.

Maybe it's because Im too old, but anything requiring any amount of fine control is impossible for me on a touch screen. I stick to puzzle games and anything turn based. I just got an n7, but all those fancy games are impossible.

I know there has to be a market for it if they keep making such good looking games. I never really liked the Wii controls either though, despite owning one for a few years. So I may not be a normal person in that regard. It's definitely very impressive what they're able to pull off on such a tiny machine that fits in my coat pocket.

I've heard anecdotally that if you buy your n7 from anywhere other than the Play store, you could run into Customer Service giving you the run-around if you have a problem with it. Is this true, or is it ok to pick it up from a local store (Microcenter in my case)? I'd like to save myself the shipping cost, but not if it's going to cause problems with warranty stuff.

You don't get support from the Play Store if you don't buy it from the Play Store. You get it from the store you bought it from / ASUS.

Small, but major note about N10 battery usage. With the screen at approx 75% brightness and streaming Netflix on 70-80kb/s celluar connection, the tablet can not be charged. It will literally trickle drain the battery. After three hours of charging while doing this it went from 15% to 8%. The battery settings page show the screen as 67% of the tablets usage. Where as with 1:30 usage of the same thing on my tf700, wifi was 65% and screen was 20%.

Say what you will about Apple's propitiatory Lightning connector and the ridiculous price for it, as connector itself it is really good - a lot less prone to breaking compared to Micro-USB, you don't have to make sure about what is up and down on the connector and the device and best of all: the 12 Watt charger pumps 2.4 Ampere into the device while charging instead of the 1.5-1.8 Ampere of Micro-USB. I don't understand why they don't put USB 3.0 connectors onto tablets - USB 3.0 is specified up to 5 Ampere, which would help a lot with charging big-battery devices.

SlayVus posted:Small, but major note about N10 battery usage. If one was cell-signal and the other was Wifi, I'd say that your TF700 was grabbing higher quality content than 70-80kbs(more likely MB/s) cellular stream when on wifi, and possibly was affected by those ASUS configurations like "powersave" which will reduce screen consumption. Could be the TF700's SuperIPS display, or it's lower resolution, or it's half the amount of ram being used, all those things change the rate at which battery is drained. It could be some variable like upscaling for the Netflix streaming codec being more natively supported by the Tegra 3 CPU/GPU, hell it's been out a lot longer and exclusively in higher profile devices, and the 3rd iteration of a chipset, so it's probably that much more optimized for by Netflix developers. There's a lot of uncontrolled variables, and some of battery settings page percentages can be misleading. Kinda hard to draw any conclusions.

Why does a device which cannot use a cell signal for anything other than data still maintain that signal when on Wi-Fi and as a result loses battery about five times faster than the same exact same device without the cell radio? This is a 32GB N7 3G. I have to leave it in Aeroplane Mode otherwise it just sits there dying. It lasts about 24 hours, compared to ~5 days for my 16GB. It's no hassle really but it's pretty dumb. It's not like the thing can even send text messages!
