I for one am dissappointed that tales of game's studios is catering to those disgusting heathens by translating the entire game in to their language. They should have to learn english anyway.

It's true and it's cool, but it's important to remember that we're definitely talking per capita and not total-overall-revenue. It's still a small and proportionally very loud market. A Mac port is definitely confirmed at this point right, though? Because in my very limited understanding (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I wanna know) it's easier to port something on Mac to Linux than it is something on Windows.

helopticor posted:I think you may be surprised; Linux users consistently pay significantly more for Humble Bundles (pay what you want for this bunch of games) than Windows/Mac users. a) Linux fans will go out of their way to support game initiatives that line up with their ideology (Humble Indie Bundle is cross-platform, DRM-free, lets you pay what you want). I guess Barkley 2 hits the first two of those, so that would help. b) Each linux fan that pays may be willing to pay more, but what percentage of them are willing to pay, period? Or rather, what percentage of linux users that game but don't dual boot to Windows will pay? I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea, but I don't think it's a slam dunk either.

As a true otaku at heart, I am glad to see this project take flight so quickly, and proud to be a part of it, however chibi (small). Hopefully some baka (idiot) Western "developers" (if you can call them that) will take note of the success brought about by a true Nippon master's hand. It has been an infuriating injustice to see the near-constant fellation of boredom simulators like Minecraft while Barkley, Shut Up & Jam Gaiden: Chapter 1 of the Hoopz Barkley Saga, a true gem of the JRPG genre, and in fact a shining example of what vidcons can be, no matter what the genre. Everyone but the most hardcore crazies are perfectly accepting of Linux software that costs money, especially for creative works like games. And the crazies who aren't don't play games anyways, so they aren't your audience. If you can "easily" (relatively speaking) port the game to Linux, I say why not.

The humble bundle guys did some research or something that estimated the piracy rate at only like 25%, and their percentage of revenue that came from linux was pretty good - something like 20-30% of the total. I think linux users are kinda weird, but targetting them for a cool offbeat video game isn't dumb or anything.

Threw in $40. If I could channel my b-ball skills into this kickstarter, they'd go in too. I know the licensing issue is a big hurdle to get around, but a Monstars DLC would blow my mind.

Be careful with that Linux support. I hear as soon as you say you're bringing a game to Linux as a stretch goal whiny gamers appear to complain about it because it doesn't benefit them. The whole whiny gamer ethos is to make up anecdotes that didn't happen and try to tell you what you should be doing instead. Have you looked into porting to the Commodore Zilog Z80? It's a small market, but you'd own it! Think how much we Zilog fans would pay for a game!

300k stretch goal: OUYA exclusive Here's a weird question: Do Kickstarted games do alright in sales eventually? If you raise $200k but it's all in promised sales what happens if the game finally comes out and nobody else buys it?

Heh... the real BSUaJ:G fans speak Japanese Al Bhed. In Barkley 2 you should license this other equally ridiculous version of Eternity. When I heard this, I was like, "Hahaha woah poo poo, this song was in Barkley" because I've never played Blue Dragon. The vocals are in Japanese, which makes it the true version of the song, even though it came later. No Deep Purple guy though. If they got him to sing in Japanese I probably would've poo poo myself. THE AWESOME GHOST posted:300k stretch goal: OUYA exclusive Promised sales? You mean like pre-orders? With a successful kickstarter, they've already paid for the game's development, so any post-kickstarter sales would just be pure profit.

THE AWESOME GHOST posted:300k stretch goal: OUYA exclusive Isn't the whole point of Kickstarter funded developement to pay for the game BEFORE it's release, rather than having a publisher bet on a game and make up their investment with sales profits? They have to if they plan on making more games without having to return to kickstarter.

Plenty of (most?) gamers want to wait until a game actually finishes development and comes out before they buy it, if a game is good I'm sure it will still get plenty of post-release sales.

The point of Kickstarter funded development is getting a game onto the market without publisher funding, what stage you are in development has nothing to do with it. The extreme pre-orders are a sales tactic.
