Anyone check out Finsterforst's latest album Rastlos? Moonsorrow is probably my favourite band and it sounds like these guys have been listening to nothing but their post-Kivenkantaja material and have created their own awesome spinoff. This is Moonsorrow worship metal. It's a little uncanny at times how similar the music is at times, but it's absolutely excellent stuff. Also, if Skyrim is going to get the metal tribute treatment it absolutely deserves to be utter poo poo. Job well done I guess. The Clit Avoider posted:Labels do it too. It's quite common for a smaller band to have to front up 5-15k (depending on tour size) to buy onto a tour with bigger bands. And yes, even bands you may have heard of on "bigger" underground labels may be doing this when on tour with 1-2 bands who are undeniably bigger than them. Yeah. The Labels at least tend to actually promote the tours. Paying to play one or two slots ahead of a big act with their own draw every night for several weeks makes sense if you're trying to gain exposure. I'm mostly talking about p2p shows that are all local bands or gigs where it's one touring act playing after a ton of local openers. In my experience, local promoters who do the pay to play thing usually just take their up-front money and don't bother doing any actual promotion or putting together a decent bill. We did a pay to play thing to open for a moderately well-known black metal band and there were 8 bands on the bill. The touring act, an unsigned supporting act they took with them on that leg of the tour, and 6 local bands. The show started at like 3 and no one was there for half the bands. Most of the bands were pretty poo poo/didn't fit the show, the sets were 20 minutes, and most of the crowd left as soon as whichever band they came to see finished up. Definitely agree on your last point. I've definitely met my share of local acts who seem more concerned with acting like rock stars than anything else.

Speaking of power metal, what are a couple good bands to cut my teeth on for the genre? I've listened to Iced Earth a bit and really like them, but I recently found THIS song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EryDKgGNv-0 by Edguy and holy poo poo this music owns. I think the only other power metal band I really listen to is a wierd Japanese power metal band named Versailles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fUQQCrvblA. They describe themselves as a visual kei band, which is basically the concept of the visuals being as important if not more important than the music; in a nutshell it's characterized by flamboyant costuming, lots of makeup, and androgynous aesthetics. I'm pretty sure that every band member in that video is actually male, as wierd as it sounds. I want to expand on my collection of power metal; help me goons!

A few pages ago I mentioned that we were going to interview Huntress. Well, we did, and it got featured in Blabbermouth; while this is nothing new for us, the kind of comments that were featured there, which highlights the charming approach of some metal fans/internet users towards women, definitely is. NTT posted:I want to expand on my collection of power metal; help me goons! Other than that, well. Firstly I suggest you dig deeper into Edguy's discography, they're one of my favourite bands overall and loving rule at power metal. Older stuff is more cheesy supersonic double-bass euro power metal, Hellfire Club and onwards they got crunchier. Rocket Ride's probably my favourite album of theirs. Somoeone already mentioned Gamma Ray, they're pretty quintessential for power metal as well. Somewhere Out In Space was the first ever metal CD I bought, and to this day I periodically listen to it and re-realize how much it loving rules. And they have plenty of other great stuff too, like Powerplant and Land Of The Free. For some less obvious stuff, the debut album of Merging Flare is pretty loving ace. Coincidentally, they have Kai Hansen from Gamma Ray doing guest vocals and I believe some guitars too. Then there's Hibria, whose two first albums are guddamn awesome. Too bad they started sucking afterwards. And last but most certainly not least, Lost loving Horizon. They put out two albums in the early 2000s and since then I haven't heard a peep from them. Apparently they've been "semi-active" since and have a new album ready to finish recording once they find a new vocalist. That's quite a hurdle though, since Daniel Heiman who left in 2004 is a goddamn vocal GOD. EDIT: I did a bit of searching, and apparently THIS is what Heiman is up to nowadays, and has been for a few years now. What the bleeding rear end? Such a tragic loving waste. American power metal is infinitely superior to (European) flower metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHQh854Bhaw Powerlord is literally the most "power metal" band name ever, except maybe Swordmaster who aren't even power metal. The production isn't the sharpest but the music is great. The music is more speed/thrash than power though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qreI9UQddks The band that embodies "speed metal" to me, though there's some power and thrash in there too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRXXfkb7XCo Manilla Road is more like traditional heavy metal but they're all sorts of amazing so here's something by them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlsxjfnxOoQ One more video since a post about USPM wouldn't be right without John Arch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZAv0RftzVk
