I'm in Vegas for a few days alone. Where should I go to gamble and get drunk to meet people my age (mid 20s)? What are good seafood, steak, and fried chicken places that aren't expensive?

Everything is expenive. You could probably get any of those at any buffet. Prices range but generally the more it costs, the better it is.

Don't remember if I replied regarding a trip to Vegas last March or not, but the standout highlights included:

Lotus of Siam
Just awesome. Get there early. Get seated. Watch the place fill up as you eat your second entree. Enjoyed my first beer in Vegas here, as well as my fifth. Laughed at the crackheads in the parking lot. Affordable cab to the Strip, make sure you get your driver's number/his/her company so you can get back, and call them maybe 10 minutes before you plan to leave so they have time to come get you.

Buffet at Paris
Pretty good buffet if you go with the Harrah's/Caesar's Buffet of Buffet options. We got 2 tickets to it for free, so we just paid for the other two guys with us to join in the eating fun.

Downtown Cocktail Bar
Great spot. Service was kinda wack, which they admitted freely to us because we were there at like 7 on a weeknight, and it was just us 4 dudes and a couple couples in the place, but some tasty drinks and nice for a little class in the semi-decrepancy of some of downtown / Fremont.

Casino Royale for gambling
Yes, I said it. The place is a goddamn shithole, your lungs hurt after being in there and not smoking, and you should only ever get bottled beer/bring your own to the floor which they apparently allow/tolerate. But god drat if this place with it's ultra low-limit craps for being right in the middle of the strip isn't a perfect hidden gem for when you just want to not stop playing craps for 5 hours and not actually win/lose anything but maybe some lung capacity and a bit of your decency. I read that their hotel upstairs is actually okay/not a drug den, which is good!

Fremont Street
The Experience is cool and all, but Fremont and environs are the place where I swear I asked the question "How is this poo poo real?" at least a dozen times. Just a silly silly place worth a walk and a look around.

Triple 7 at Main Street Station
Not fancy, not the best meal we ate there, but it's a good spot for a couple of beers that aren't loving Miller/Coors/ABInBev products with a reasonable steak plate. The Berlin Wall behind the urinals was neat too.

Fountains at Bellagio
And just wandering around inside there. Lots of tourists, but a really nice spot to see some nice gardens and prettiness when you're hungover sipping your Campari and soda after breakfast. Yes I'm a 60 year old Italian woman when I drink sometimes.

Other stuff was cool I'm sure. Heading to the El Cortez for a couple hours and a few hands of craps still lands in my top 10 strangest life experiences. Just a different world completely in there.

-------------------------------------------

Will be returning this coming March. We're probably going as just 3 guys this time, which makes finding a room a total pain in the rear end. We all want our own bed, and are looking on the strip.

The Palazzo/Venetian has a 2 queen bed suite + pull-out couch that I'm eyeing, but it's a bit more than I'd like to spend. Harrah's has their typical options plus a rollaway bed we could get put in the room, but their rooms aren't that big and I can't see a rollaway bed fitting us all in there comfortably. But their pricing is much more in line with what we'd like to do... Any suggestions goons?

Thanks for reminding me. I was treated like absolute poo poo there because the waiter thought I was a scrub or something. Button down shirt and jeans not good enough? I was a bit scruffy from playing a shitload of blackjack and just wanted a decent meal. Maybe it was because I didnt order wine? Oh no, he got a table that wont be over 300 dollars... Looking forward to Lotus of Siam, that's been recommended to me by literally everyone. I'll be there for a week starting tomorrow; room's free thanks to a timeshare, now I just need to figure out if I'd rather go lose money gambling or spend it all on shows.

- Are there any good places to get better pricing on driving Ferraris around the speedway?
- Buy tickets the night-of a given show probably cheaper than buying in advance?
- Looks like Blackjack & Craps are the way to go, I need to re-learn craps...

I should elaborate myself.

We went Friday night, and I understand it was a holiday weekend, but that place was deader than poo poo. (I guess because everyone was trying to eat at the Asian restaurants) The service was attentive, but seemed a little clumsy: the waiter's assistants weren't sure what was being served, and the waiter himself wasn't fully familiar with all of the food when asked some questions.

- The oysters were about the size of quarters
- Chili glaze on the calamari was concentrated on 2 or 3 calamari rings, the rest were dry
- Everyone's steaks were cooked at least one range higher than ordered. I had the 10oz Australian NY Strip. It was unremarkable

Like every restaurant in Aria the style of the restaurant was pretty awesome, but for wanting a good, lively night out or wanting a good steak, I would have looked elsewhere. (Gallagher's!)

If you find yourself in the Venetian Hotel and wanting some outstanding Asian food (soup especially!!) check out Noodle Asia by the sports book.

It's really cheap for Vegas and I highly recommend the Spicy Ying Nan Rice Noodle Soup.

Oh my god it's delicious. Everything else is great as well.

I went to Jean-Georges back in June and had a pretty good experience. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go back simply because it wasn't outstanding and there are so many other restaurants to visit, but all in all, I was pretty satisfied with the meal and the service.

I'd honestly like to check out the Circus Circus steakhouse next time I visit, since it's apparently very highly regarded.

Also, just to add to the previous:

I stayed at the Venetian in march and the suite I had came with a gigantic L shaped couch that easily slept two or three people. I was there for a bachelor party and some of my friends tried to go six to their room (which was identical to mine except it was two queens instead of one king). Two of them ended up on my couch most of the trip and had no complaints. Pretty sure I was in the cheapest room on the property too.

The events calender (http://www.marqueelasvegas.com/events/) for Marquee is full of big name house & trance artists on every Friday / Saturday night. January's lineup includes Gabriel & Dresden, Nicky Romero, Dash Berlin, Dirty South, Gareth Emery, W&W and more. Virtually all of the top DJs will visit and play in Vegas over the year, there is definitely no shortage of electronic music now that it's blown up in North America.

Honestly, if you really like electronic music, stay away from Vegas. There have been multiple instances of DJ's being kicked off the decks, and unless you like what Manufactured Superstars play, you're going to be disappointed. Don't take this as a dig, those guys are friends of mine, I just don't really enjoy what they play. It's all going to be beatport top 10 or remixes of mainstream tracks.

Looking for sportsbook recommendations for March Madness. For years, we would just get up early and park ourselves at the Venetian since it was easiest to find a seat, but last year they had this new thing where you couldn't sit unless you had a ticket and you only got a ticket after betting some huge amount on the games. We ended up off the stip at the LV Hilton where they have a huge arena and tons of seats but its off the strip which kind of sucks. Have all the sportsbooks adopted this ticket thing?

Can't speak to March Madness specifically, but I'd be very surprised if this was commonplace. You can't get comped drinks in books without a ticket (sometimes they just want to see that you've made a bet, other times you have to ask at the sports book window for a drink ticket), but I've sat and watched the NFL many Sundays - in a seat without a ticket - at LVH, the Palms, the Orleans (not recommended), half the Station casinos in town, and a handful of places on the strip. Never been asked to show a ticket once.

Which as a dj who has dedicated my last 10 years to EDM and haven't heard of this happening besides this garbage "VIP is complaining about the DJ" is still bullshit. Mansion in miami pulled this same trash recently too. Its trying to homogenize dance music and make an artist compromise his art over money. If you somehow managed to get banksy to do a graffiti live show, and the people attending said "made him paint landscapes or I am leaving" people who were fans of the artist would have a right to be pissed too.

If you really like electronic music, go to Berlin, the Bunker in NYC, or any of the other places that don't cater to the Beatport top 100 crowd. I have been to Vegas a fuckton of times, and never heard anything that impressed me ever.

Edit: You may know Vegas very well, but trust me when I say that you don't know poo poo about dance music if the above is truly your opinion.

The problem with your analogy is that you're assuming people are going there to see that DJ. If you're paying a DJ $30k and you have a guy who has spend $2mill+ in the club that year. It's a pretty simple business decision on who to cater to.

People who are fans of the artist have a right to be pissed, club owners have a right to operate their venue however they want. If the overwhelming majority of the people are unhappy with the music being played, it's time for a change of pace.

I couldn't give to shits about EDM so my unbiased opinion is coming from a logical business standpoint. You might piss of the hardcore fan who paid $50 for his admission or spent $200pp on his table, but the guy dropping $10k+ most likely doesn't care who is spinning unless it's Kaskade, Tiesto, Calvin Harris, or Deadmau5.

Old Man Pants

I get what you are saying, and understand how high rollers work. I was in xs at the table with my buddy joe and some other poker pros, and viffer decides its cool to spray champagne on the crowd, got in a fight with some dude over it, and they kicked other guy out, escorted viffer back to the table, and brought him a new dress shirt to replace the one the guy tore. I get it. The thing is though, it doesn't make it right. The bar I get has people who while not dropping 50k when they come in drop 15 to 20k a few times a week. The only person that should be out on their rear end over something like this is whoever is in charge of the bookings. Don't book eclectic acts like shadow or farina if their sound isn't what is right for your crowd. There are a million dj's who love playing the vegas style tunes, and top 40 remixes, and it's the booking managers fault that this happened in the first place.

Anyways, enough of this derail, no hostility intended, back to Vegas questions!

I think the bottom line here, that we can all agree on, is that EDM is loving terrible and should be abolished.

I bought our tickets from Bellagio's website. It's probably not the cheapest way to do it, but I didn't want to risk screwing it up just to try and get them cheaper since my wife really wanted to see the show.

The least painful way is to get them straight from the Bellagio, yep. If you stay there, you should get a little discount; I had a friend staying at MGM and she got us Ka tickets in like row L (maybe 20-30 feet from the stage? Very close, very awesome) for $100. She said MGM guests got a 30% discount or something.

If you feel like gambling (heh) you could check out the little ticket kiosks.

e: Ka really owns BTW, I was in the air between "O" and Ka, and I'm pretty glad I picked Ka. Both shows do have very unique theatres and stage setups though that you cannot find anywhere else.

I've seen Ka! I liked it a lot. Not as much as I liked Saltimbanco, but more than I liked Alegria or Quidam. I think that's because Saltimbanco was my first Cirque show and it just blew my tiny mind.

I emailed Bellagio to see if I can stay there what kind of discount they can give me. It's pretty expensive so it'd better be a rad discount.

I'm in the process of reading through this thread, but since I need to make a reservation sometime soon I figured I would ask for some advice.

Some friends and I plan on going to Vegas during the second week of March. We're all guys in our early 20s so we'll be doing the typical Vegas gig of gambling, etc. I am looking at staying in either the Tropicana or MGM. I've heard great things about MGM, but the reviews of the Tropicana that I've read online are mixed. So first off, what is everyone's opinion on the Tropicana?

If I do end up staying at the MGM I could either get a room with a king, or for $80 more I could end up with a suite. Would it be worth it to spend the extra dough and just stay at MGM, or should I save the $200 and just stay at the Tropicana and spend it on food or shows or whatever, even if it is a worse hotel ?

Its your first time in Vegas so you will barely be in your room. Just enough for shower and a nap. A basic room at either will be fine.

Scored that plus round trip airfare for $550/person in March. Nothing to write home about, but it's A) over a weekend B)Friday departure, and C) Monday return at a non-lovely hour.

Protip: While we didn't do it because the flight option that we wanted disappeared from their site for some reason, booking hotel+airfare looked good good good directly on Palazzo/Venetian's site. Also booking directly on airlines' sites netted us a decent price last time.

I wasn't a fan of Tropicana (the gaming floor anyway) but as the above poster said, your room is for you to shower/sleep/hangover recovery, nothing else.

One thing I will suggest though, a group of us went over NYE, and first thing we did when we got there is run to the grocery store and buy a ton of lunch meat/sandwich stuff. Lot cheaper than eating out everyday. Our place even had a kitchenette, so we could do eggs and stuff.
