slowdave posted:Sounds like you might enjoy Kryptic Minds: Thanks for the suggestions, although those weren't quiiiiite what I was looking for. I like Shackleton and Kryptic Minds a good bit. They just tend to be more dubstep/2step/UK garage oriented. I'm rather familiar with that sound and tend to be partial toward that vein of dubstep, liking other similar artists such as Scuba, Peverlist, Appleblim, and 2562. The stuff on the Eraldo album is a bit more reggae/ragga vibe. Focusing less on the two-step percs and focusing a bit more on a pluckier, groovier bassline, if that makes any sense. Checking out an album called Offerings in Dub by The Dub Syndrome at the moment that's pretty slick. Thanks again though

Can anyone recommend songs similar to Tourette's by Nirvana? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuDEbWeFvx4 I don't really like Nirvana's other stuff and I usually don't like harsh, thrashy vocals either, so I'm not sure what it is that draws me in to this one so much. I think I'm looking for something simple and harsh, but not "overly dark" if that makes any sense.

What's some unabashedly happy music? Specifically of the indie-folk variety. My music collection is filled with mopey stuff (Mountain Goats, The xx and the like) and I've been in an uncharacteristically good mood lately.

I'm looking for stuff that could be called similar to John Frusciante - Running Away Into You I really like how it's a fairly traditional stripped down acoustic guitar + vocals but there's all this crazy, trippy manipulation going on that turns it into something very unusual and strange. So kind of anything that fits that description, even if you think it's only a little bit I'd be interested to hear it.

I used to listen to a fair amount of EDM, but stopped before the american-style dubstep was popular, so I've always been more comfortable with DnB, big beat, dub, 2step, grime glitch hop, and stuff like that. My friends are all really into contemporary edm stuff like dubstep and some of the more popular house artists. I'm tryin to bridge the gap so we can find poo poo to listen to together or when we have parties. FreQ Nasty's fabriclive mix has been really popular for both of us, along with some trap stuff I've been showing them lately. (alot of Mad Decent stuff). Anyway any suggestions, especially for compilation albums, would be welcome

I've recently gotten really big into Whitechapel, Gojira, and Winds of Plague. I loving love the vocal thing Whitechapel has going on, Gojira's breakdowns are always spot the gently caress on, and Winds of Plague's incorporation of narrative and orchestral VSTi tracks into their music is beautifully well-done. They all have fantastic vocals, and Whitechapel takes the stage with that poo poo, followed closely by Winds of Plague's pretty friggin' dope inhales, and then of course Gojira's unique yelling-style does their music well. Does anyone have any suggestions similar to any of these, even combining them all? Separately, I've also gotten into Born of Osiris, Motionless in White, A Bullet for Pretty Boy, After the Burial, and Asking Alexandria. I kind of like how their singing parts are, but I'm a bit weary about bands too much like Asking Alexandria. Their lyrics are always fairly juvenile and their screaming isn't even always that great, but I kind of like the dude's singing voice. I'm looking more for bands like After the Burial with a bit more Born of Osiris mixed in. I just love ATB's abnormal beats that take you a good 5 or 6 listens to actually understand and memorize, and I adore the electronica element Born of Osiris puts into their work. If anyone has something similar to those guys, I'd be really appreciative.

The last two techinically aren't house, but they have a very similiar funky, danceable style and tend to have decent remixes. The easiest way to find new house music is to look up the label of an artist you like and see what other groups are on it. Best place to start is probably Daft Punk's own label, Ed Banger Records. There's also the electro/house megathread.

Hey, I'm looking for stuff similar to Jazzanova https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2AeFOOdML0 is one of my fave songs, I love the piano in the background. Little bird is another one of theirs that I love. Similar songs I like include this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV1oaFjtwLs A jazzy number which is very "busy" in terms of the instruments playing...plenty happening in the background...yes I know I suck with describing stuff... Please give me a genre or similar bands!

I have a friend who is looking for something similar to Me And The Devil by Gil Scott-Heron. Here's how he put it: quote:So the reason I’m frustrated is that Pandora thinks that song is similar to Toni Braxton, and Mary J. Blige, and other terrible R&B stuff. But that song is the dark scratchy moaning of a man who’s going to die and go to hell. Any suggestions for my (obviously mentally disturbed) friend?

Ziltoid posted:That song has a pretty punk feel. Maybe some Dead Kennedys? I should have been more specific. Punk is my "main genre;" I know all of the obvious staple bands, but I'm usually not into anything from before 1990. Straight up hardcore, skate punk, etc. don't really do it for me but I've really enjoyed some newer bands that are influenced by them. Obviously Nirvana is not a newer band, but Tourette's is a great example of the kind of song I'm looking for. For newer songs, see FIDLAR - Wake Bake Skate (http://fidlar.bandcamp.com/track/wake-bake-skate-2), No Waves by the same band (http://fidlar.bandcamp.com/album/no-waves-no-rear end-7), or any of the songs on this Criminal Culture disk (http://criminalculturefl.bandcamp.com/). Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, etc. are alright for me but I have a pretty shallow interest in them. There is some mysterious quality to the songs I posted here that I really like despite not liking the subgenre as a whole, and I can't figure out what it is that does it for me. edit: my last.fm is at http://www.last.fm/user/karb26 if it helps, although I've been listening to a lot of stuff on Bandcamp lately so it's not perfectly representative.
