Are you going to use him primarily as a position player or as a pitcher?

I'd like to hold back from that decision for another week, if you don't mind. Obviously willing to refrain from using him in that time. Want to see if teenage Yount is actually worthwhile.

In preparation for the Tetrachampaton, let's see if Darrell Porter improves with a week or two in the minors - call up Sandy Alomar Jr to take over Porter's personal catcher duties.

I have no idea what to do about MVP-year Bagwell. I know he'd had a history of being bad for everyone but me, but I feel so betrayed. :saddowns:

Smasher: just lucky, I suppose. Feel bad for poor Bert.

Ott back to right, put in Foxx at 1B, Schmidt has to go back in for Brett, who hides on the DL for the week. Assenmacher in for Goose.

D, serve and devour the severed hamstring of Dom Capers.

And, c'mon, we're not just here for the spreadsheets! Especially since most of our teams are so bad!

WHALERS HARPOON MATHEMATICIANS 4-3

Milton Keynes- At least the Whalers won't be going home empty-handed.

After dropping the first two games of this three-game set in England, the Whalers found their backs against the wall, needing to win this game or else return to Hartford, the Wailing City, winless. But it wouldn't be easy. Mathematicians starter Josh Beckett pitched a strong game, and the teams ended up tied after nine innings. With their bullpen running out of steam, the Whalers would need to make their move soon. And so, in the top of the tenth, the Whalers mounted one last rally, eventually scoring a single run on a Wade Boggs sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the inning, despite John Wetteland being wild, including balking a runner from second to third, the Whalers were able to keep the Mathematicians from scoring, sealing the victory.

Wade Boggs, who hit the game-winning RBI, and leads all Whaler players in all-star voting, with one vote, was in a celebratory mood. "One vote! That's infinity times more than everyone one else on the Whalers combined! That's just one more validation of my greatness! Did you know that, during the mid-to-late '80s, I was considered one of the greatest players in the American League East? And that, thanks to my great batting, the Red Sox nearly won the 1986 World Series? Also, I was on the motherfucking Simpsons! Come on, you've got to remember that! I got into an argument with Barney about British Prime Ministers, and he punched me in the face! That was a great episode. Of course, I never did find out who Pitt the Elder was, probably just some British fruit."

This caused some consternation amongst the Mathematicians, as their owner, Revenant Threshold, which translates to "Stanislaw Kasmierczak" in American English, is from Britain himself. "Pitt the Elder was a great statesman of the 18th century who policies helped guide Great Britain through the Seven Years' War. I daresay that had Pitt the Elder just been 'some British Fruit', then the world would be quite different today. Imagine a world where the people of Canada spoke French instead of English...some of them still do? Really? Ah, well, we're still better off today thanks to Pitt the Elder, and it is unfortunate that the great masses of Americans know him only in the context of that episode of the Simpsons. The state of the American educational system must be deplorable. It's a shame, really. A drat shame."

That, in turn, drew a rebuke from an inebriated mks5000, "gently caress you, you loving rear end in a top hat! The Simpsons are great, man! I remember, back when I was a kid and people still lived in Hartford, I used to watch the Simpsons every Thursday night, and that was great and I had some nachos, and the Whalers were still around....I still love you, Ron Francis! Come back!!!!!!!!!" mks5000 then passed out at the podium. The media, having discussed the matter, agreed that it was best to leave the Whalers' owner were he fell.

Game Notes

Before the game, Revenant Threshold dedicated a statue of Milton Keynes in front of the Mathematicians home stadium noting that, although Keynes' economic policies have fallen into disfavor in this new age of austerity, he was still probably a "pretty good bloke".

SUICIDES LESS SUICIDAL THANKS TO 5-4 WIN

Seattle- In a stirring victory, the Suicides managed to not blow an eighth inning 5-0 lead, getting a win over the New England Arguments today.

The Arguments seemed like they were on the comeback trail, scoring four runes in the top of the eighth as a combination of poor relief pitching and a costly error by Eddie Yost allowed the Arguments to come within a run. But the Suicides, tapping into all of their reserves, were able to hold on just long enough to secure the 5-4 win.

That caused Pungry to go off on one of his tangents, "Not of you understand me! I'm dark and sophisticated and totally into alternative rock, but none of you get it! Today, I made an awesome pick in the Super-Draft, but you all made fun of me because it turned out that the year of Roy Halladay I picked wasn't actually in the draft pool. Well, that just shows how none of you get it, I was making a statement about conformity, and all of you robots just marched along. Why should Smasher Dynamo get to decide who's in the draft pool, and who we can pick in the Super-Draft? I say that we can pick anyone we want, and that it's only because we let the man tell us what to do that we're trapped like this. It's just like Holden Caulfield, he broke free of society and had some awesome adventures because he was so tired of all of the phonies. We should all try to be more like him!"

Arguments' owner Robert_Deadford was also happy with the outcome, even though he lost, "Why, what an enjoyable based ball experience we had today. I am glad to see my player units were able to come so close to victory over the Seattle Self-Killings. Also, I quite enjoyed this Seattle that I and my player units have spent the past few days in. Many of the cities on your planet, of which I am totally a native, are too bright, and do not discharge enough water from the sky. I often find myself completely dried out in such climates. Fortunately, the environment of Seattle kept my hydrated through the day, as I absorbed the rain through my human hydropores, as all humans do. It was very pleasant. All in all, a fine day to pretend to be a human."

Game Notes

Smasher Dynamo expressed disappointment that he has not yet been able to find a Seattle-based team that could rock a Shadowrun gimmick, noting that neither the Sonics, Suicides or Homers really would have worked. He is offering 10,000 nuyen to an owner willing to relocate to Seattle and rename his team "Seattle Street Samurais".

: So, he said I was a cool dude...but he had been drinking...and he had just done a lot of cocaine, so I'm not sure how much of that was the drugs. But yeah, that was the only time in life I was called 'cool'.
: Your stories about your life kind of make me feel sad all the time.
: Yeah, me too. Anyway, in honor of this Cuba Smokers-Cleveland Commies series, please rise for the playing of the Internationale.
: Marxist on Marxist violence must end!
: Big Train will roll, and the Smokers will take Game 1.

: Commies will eke out a win, and the series is tied 1-1.
: And in this four-game series, the champion has a distinct advantage, because he'll retain if he can get a split of the series.

: Another tough loss for Strasburg, who has to be the least lucky pitcher this year.
: Well, when you put your faith in Drew Storen and B.J. Ryan, bad things are going to happen. Just like in real life.

: Commies hit four home runs, and they'll split the series, meaning that the Commies will retain the Television Title.
: And their streaky offense finally put it together, although you can't ever really expect to get two home runs from Clemente, who was always more of a singles hitter.

: And now the Commies will defend their title in a three-game set at the Landers.
: Well, I guess the Commies have a chance here, but it's not a very good one. The Landers are the better team by a bunch.
: Commies are able to keep the game tied into the bottom of the ninth, but can go no further, and the Landers win the day.
: And the Landers' offense is just humming. It might be the best in the league with the W's Snider out for a few months.

: Commies make it interesting with a win here.
: And Tejada gets a bit of revenge against the team who unceremoniously dumped him back to the Commies a couple of weeks ago.

: J.R. Richard is too much for the Commies, and the Landers will take the TV Title for the second time!
: The Commies need to reassess some of their starting pitcher, it looks like.

: And that wraps things up! The Landers are once again the TV champs, and we'll see them take on the Mathematicians in the early series next week, followed by either Landers-Whalers or Mathematicians-Arguments.

At least things can't get any worse. I'm not sure what's wrong with Hartnett, although we're only taking about 111 ABs so far, so it's probably not quite time to panic just yet.

As for your pitching staff, Johnson is a bit unlucky, Martinez is old (in terms of his career), and Mathewson is young. The problem is that you got bad breaks on all three in the same season.

The hot streak continues!

Analysis

Two and a half good hitters, and not a lot else.

Ordinarily i'd be quite free with him, but apparently this season what i'm hurting for is good outfielders. If you have a spare Barry Bonds going that'd be nice, but someone who can play RF both well and consistently would be nice. Also, pitchers.

Alternately, I'd be willing to trade down a few picks. Also, if anyone has a pick they don't desire, I'm open to offers.
