Someone told me that the vast majority of internet users do not leave comments. A very tiny and outspoken minority leave the bulk of the nutty bullshit and the amount of crazy that's being posted actually turns people off from commenting.

With the exception of places like DailyKos, comments sections in general tend to run rightwing.

Aside from any actual paid trolls, I think it's more that right wingers get more gratification out of trolling comments and FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT online.

That angry-rant lady from right after the election, from the famous YouTube video, seems to embody the type. The left has them to be sure but not nearly in the same numbers, it just seems to relate to how extreme righties are wired.

Drudge and Foxnews collaborating?

Even if not, the quantity of scary/conservatism-affirming links in their front page right now is weird, even for Fox.

EDIT: drat, that wording makes Obama sound so dictatorial, when in reality the article speaks of regulatory matters that Congress doesn't have direct input in.

Well I was just listening to the Mark Levin show and heard an exchange between Levin and a call that self identified as an Obama supporter. The exchange gave a great deal of insight into what Levin believes constitutes a legitimate discussion with another human being regarding his, Levin's, rhetoric. I'll have to paraphrase but basically:

quote:

the guy said he agreed with the Democratic position on GOP obstructionism and Levin immediately cut him off and lit into him about marxist, socialist attempts to destroy the constitution and how he, Levin, would never try to negotiate with someone trying to steal from him or destroy his house and when the guy finally got another word in he said, "you're just talking over me and not giving me a chance to respond", to which Levin said, "talking to someone like you who knows nothing is the same as talking to a wall and I would never ask a wall to respond to what I had to say so I don't want to know and don't care about your response", end of call, cut him off, intro into next line of Levin's thought process

I certainly understand now how impossible it is to speak to true believers in the GOP when the only legitimate discussion to them is with someone who believes exactly the same as they do.

I'm pretty sure Yahoo actual tailors the "top" articles that appear to you based on your past article views or something similar. I still use yahoo mail (for some reason) and I rarely ever get conservative blowhard articles appearing. I even had an story linked on my email page about Alex Jones going crazy on TV, and the article was actually titled "Pundit Goes Crazy on Morgan's Show" or something similar even though many people were reporting that the incident wasn't being reported anywhere. The comments are still godawful though.

Levin is a loon. As I listened last night on the way home, he was referring to Chuck Hagel as "Schmagel" (presumably because Hagel is Jewish?), Joe Scarborough as "Jo Schmo," and MSNBC as "MSLSD." Repeatedly. Like a kid who won't stop saying the punchline to a stupid joke because he's convinced that it gets funnier the more times it's said.

This is a guy who namecalls like a 10 year-old. There's no rational discussion to be had with someone like that. Levin only ever accepts callers that disagree with him so he can yell at them and look like a big man to his radio audience. And frankly, he's so unbalanced and right-wing that I have trouble believing anyone who actually matters takes him seriously. It's comical, really.

I worry a lot more about guys like Limbaugh, who are capable of sounding relatively rational most of the time, and whose screeds generally are broadcast in a spoken tone, rather than the suddenly high volume shouting tirades that Levin is known for. That's carnival behavior - "when is he going to start yelling at someone?"

The guy is a sideshow act.

Limbaugh does the name calling a lot as well. I suspect that the repetition is intentional to cause the listener to associate negative adjectives with whatever the noun target is. I've found it working on me in real life. Limbaugh always refers to the Huffington Post as "The Huffington and Puffington Post" and for the life of of me I can't not say that in my head whenever I hear or read the words "Huffington Post".

George Lakoff says that certain phrasings/framings activate neural pathways in the brain, and the more they get activated, the stronger they become. It's the reason why repetition is used so much in education. Your brain is changing because of the things you're listening to.

Recall how ridiculously tight-lipped GOP politicians were after the Rush/Fluke debacle and how they refused to say anything beyond "well I wouldn't have used the word "slut." The people who vote for them absolutely adore Rush/Beck/Hannity/Levin/etc and saying anything negative about them would be like saying "gently caress you" directly to their base. The same applies if you have someone like Levin ranting every night about you being a RINO, stuff like that leads to them getting primary challenges from some tea party nutcase who will be propped up by those same radio pundits.

Use the anger. Use it.
Rush is going pretty nuts about this 'Obama's Executive Order to take your guns'. Especially considering no Executive Order has been produced, nor have we seen the language of what is inside said non-existent Executive Order. He is "considering" it! Imagine that! This nig man is trying to take your guns! He admits fully to the EO not being able to do anything, yet he continues to harp on this. It's working pretty well on the extreme right-wing lackeys from what I've been seeing. He also went on a long rant about the "true cause" of the 2008 financial crises: home owners that took out loans they knew couldn't be repaid, with the government holding a gun to their head to loan more money to minorities.

He just had a caller (probably a FReeper ) come on and parrot two points I've heard on the extreme right wing: (1) The American Revolution was started over the British taking the colonists' guns (2) Any attempt to do so in America today will be met with... consequences. Rush does nothing to dismiss either of these talking points, but rather focuses on the "arrogant condecension" of the current administration. Moderate Republicans (or RINOs, if you will) will soon be on national television advocating for gun control because if they don't they will lose votes, Rush warns.

Speaking of arrogance, he referred to Paul Revere as Rush Revere during his retelling of what the phrase "The British are coming!" meant because Two If By Tea is their sponsor, coincidentally with his fat face on the bottles :v:
