On the character select screen, there's a skull attribute, and as far as I can tell it's difficulty level, because the assassin starts out fighting much stronger monsters. How does that number actually work? And how does initiative work? Is that your % chance of striking first?

Initiative is your chance to strike first and (if powerful enough) potentially kill the mob with out retaliation.

I have to say, Dungelot has a lot more potential than it delivers on. It seemed really sweet at first, but it's ultimately pretty shallow. There is not enough incentive for attacking enemies. The gameplay isn't different in any meaningful way between the classes. The rewards aren't big enough to encourage a grind. I dunno, it SEEMS so cool at first, but it's been disappointing. It sounds like he has some great ideas for where he'd like to go with it, but I don't understand all the hubbub as is.

If it had a class/skill system as deep as DungeonRaid, it would be a much more interesting game. It's far too passive for a rouge-like.

Someone posted a link to the Dungelot facebook that had posts showing further development e.g. an overhaul to spells and inventory. Off memory, you are limited to 2 spell slots, and you level up spells with money. If you want to change spells you need to discard one that you've slotted. Lantern, compass and map are considered quest items and don't take up inventory space. Introduction of armor, which gives a defense and hp bonus but initiative penalty. I felt sorta similar to The Jorts of Zeus... it's a really fun game, but I'm kinda playing it less and less. But if the maker is gonna developer it this actively, then it's got some serious potential. The Alchemist class (who apparently has a pet?) looks really cool, tool. Is anyone able to use the fire mages effectively? To me it seems like about 99% of the time they do too small damage to matter at all. I guess if you were lucky they could take out the exploding red bat dudes.

Taking damage due to doing damage/killing stuff is bullshit in any game and the only way to stop it is to have enough fireballs or burn a polymorph. I guess you could get lucky and get them to 1 health and kill them with lightning or a fire mage but that's pretty rare. If I have a bunch of enemies on the screen and don't know which one has the key, I'm fighting the pigs last because at least there's a chance of killing the others without getting hurt.

Lords of Midnight seems really cool but i feel like it's going to take some work to really figure out what i'm doing. I like that the graphics maintain that wierd Spectrum color scheme. Retro asthetics that actually take limitations like attribute clash into account are cool.

Doctor rear end in a top hat posted:They seem to remove a percentage of health from all monsters, so I don't think they can kill anything at more than one health. They can be the difference between taking one or two attacks to kill a monster, though. Well, one solution which you seem to have not noticed, and which would definitely end up useful to you, is damaging it with normal attacks, and *then* casting a fireball (if it can survive one attack from you, the fireball will almost certainly finish it off).

Poison also works, but only if you do it just right. If you attack them on the same turn that the poison kills them, it will still deal the extra damage to you. So, you have to whittle them down low enough for a poison to finish them off, then go do something else. I still agree that they suck though. I also thought the zombies were rough since they have a ton of HP, but then I realized "oh right undead "

So I got sucked into Game Dev Story on my OG Droid back in the day, and then didn't have room for it on my Evo 4G, and now that I've got my Nexus 10 I'm back into it, and discovering that Kairosoft has like 15 new games (I did play a bit of Grand Prix Story when that came out) and I'm wondering which ones I should look at first? My God these games are like crack.

People usually recommend Beastie Bay, which has both city management things and pokemon-esque things. I'm not the biggest fan personally but it's still quite good. The other thread favourite is Dungeon Story which is also my favourite Kairosoft game.

If you love Game Dev Story then the only three which are the same style ("make a thing then see how good it is") are the racing and football (soccer) games which I forget the exact names of. These are the only the that I've enjoyed. The others are all building/placement games which I found less interesting, but your mileage may vary. And the Pokémon one I've never tried.

The crazy thing is that Lords of Midnight is no joke the deepest strategy game on Android yet. I still can't understand why basically the perfect platforms for turn-based strategy games have generated like four decent ones so far, and they're all ports of older games (Ascendancy, King of Dragon Pass, Lords of Midnight, and probably one other I'm forgetting).

I just started playing a Triple Town clone, Puzzle Forge, and it's even worse than Triple Town. There's no bears loving your poo poo up, there's just you and placing things and stressing yourself out for no reason and it's got a great visual style and it's just so great.

Blows my mind. Also the fourth I forgot in my original post was Majesty, which is, again, a port.
