Watching "Bernie" right now and enjoying it quite a bit. Jack Black does a great job and in a role completely different from his usual characters.

I watched Castaway on the Moon last night and thought it was pretty cute.

It's generally about a guy who tries to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge into the Han river but gets stranded on an island in the middle instead. At first I thought it was going to be literally Cast Away with one character screaming at inanimate objects the whole film but there's a fairly cute twist in the middle. It's in Korean with English subtitles available.

Love this movie, it's really lighthearted and pretty clever.

Just a heads up, Portlandia season 2 was just added yesterday. The new season starts on Friday, so if you want to marathon through the entire first two seasons, go for it.

I also just saw this movie and would suggest it! I wish the summary didn't give away a big chunk of the movie but it's almost entirely based on real events so I guess I can't complain because I'm an idiot.

Yeah I read the summary too but I didn't feel it spoiled the movie. I was expecting it to go in another way entirely. Expecting him to have nefarious motives etc, when in reality it's just a sweet odd guy who just got pushed too far.

When I found out that the townspeople were actual townspeople and not actors it made the movie much more awesome, and blew my loving mind.

Cleanflix is an interesting little doc about those movie rental companies in Mormonland, Utah that would edit out all of the bad parts of movies.

Many of the interviews were conducted in-store so I kept scanning the background to see what titles were available.. For example: The Doors, Army of Darkness, and 300. When watching one of those, wouldn't your mind fill in the blanks of what was left out resulting in impure thoughts?

I love the interview bits with them during the credits. Especially the guy who is constantly slamming the San Augustine residents as inbred hicks.

Love was deep... I felt like it was a movie with a lot of deep meaningful poo poo packed into it but the way it was presented waa so discombobulated i had a hard time following it. Those short interviews that would pop up with people talking about love though really hit me hard. The soundtrack is amazing and really adds a lot to the movie as well (Angels & Airwaves)

If you dig movies like Moon, The fountain, Enter the void, etc you will probably dig this.

Can anyone else recommend movies that are similar? I'm going through a divorce right now and for some reason these deep movies are making me feel better hah.

I just finished with the newly-ish added second season of The Increasingly Poor Desicions of Todd Margaret, and holy poo poo does that show get better and better as it goes along and Todd's idiocy escalates. I like how it builds, so one minor thing in the first few episodes can have huge consequences later and you can follow exactly how trying loosen the lid of a jar with a latte steamer ends with him on trial for a laundry list of bizarre things.

It's called "found footage" or sometimes, derogatorily, "shaky cam".

Not all these will be on Netflix, but if you like these films, at least you know where to look.

Seconding this. As his web of lies and poor decisions compounds on itself, the show becomes exponentially more enjoyable. It's a shame that you have to watch so much of it to really get this out of it, but it's worth sitting through 12 episodes, I think.

EDIT: I want to tack on that, if anyone missed The West Wing when it was airing (like me), it is really really good.

I like this show so much that I'm not even mad for paying iTunes a few months ago to see the 2nd season. I'm just glad more people are going to watch it now! If you've never seen it, imagine the cringe-comedy of The Office and the interweaving plots / detail importance of Seinfeld, maximized in scope and taken to a level of dark comedy that would never fly on US tv. I can't imagine watching it one week a time; it's really the perfect show for Netflix.

It really is the perfect Netflix show. I watched each season in one sitting, and it really lets you follow the madcap cause-and-effect humor that the show relies on better that way.

Stay away from Apartment 143, it was boring and annoying. I love found footage movies a lot, but this one was just...infuriating.

Yesterday I watched Lo, a low budget movie but it was funny and cute, made me laugh with all the demons silliness. And right now, because my cat woke me up and I don't feel sleepy anymore I will continue watching Strigoi.

I just watched Silenced today and I have never felt so utterly miserable and uncomfortable watching a movie. It's a Korean film that's based on a true event. Basically, a guy starts teaching at a hearing-impaired school and learns that some of the teachers sexually molest and abuse some of the children. It has some really graphic and disturbing scenes but I thought it was a great movie.

Eames: The Architect and The Painter, Mansome, The Pruitt-Igoe Myth, Ed Hardy: Tattoo The World, Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, Craigslist Joe, any of the 30 for 30 series, American: The Bill Hicks Story, Senna, On Any Sunday, any of the Ken Burns stuff, the Michael Palin travelogues, Half The Sky, Billy Connolly's Route 66, Circo, The Rise and Fall of The Irishman, Trinity and Beyond, Brother's Keeper, Paris is Burning, and American Dream are some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned. I would also recommend General Orders No. 9, although that's less of a documentary and more of an Americanized version of the Qatsi films, in my opinion.
