Everyone who has heard or seen the kid's name has assumed that she simply took matthew and romeo and combined them to make a name that sounds ~*unique*~. Also, She has a history of naming her pets after anime and video game characters. I live in northern Alberta so the Italian and Spanish communities combined only make up about 1% of the population. It's not an uncommon name, particularly for Hispanic people. Edit: Sorry, someone just said this.

She started out with "Graz" and just started naming off other letters til they figured out it was gibberish.

Maybe she just had bad handwriting?

I solemnly swear I think it was a semicolon, but I'm turning 28 in less than seven hours, so I may be remembering incorrectly due to old age (and the fact that I knew her a decade ago). Perhaps it was a colon. I've been poring over my high school's website and not found any info about her, but I admit I could be remembering things incorrectly.

My own IRL name is kinda messed up. It's mostly the same as, and pronounced like, a relatively normal name, but looks like someone did a typo. It's actually more aesthetically pleasing (I think) then the normal spelling, but still, unusual. It's actually so distinctive that a long while ago, when I still gave free money to Blizzard, a random person's character had my real name, and because I had never seen my name before in any context I did a double take and almost followed that guy trying to find out where he got the name from. Later I found out it from a random selection of syllables for random names they give World of Warcraft characters. Turns out my parents named me for some weird artist who no one has ever heard of but was momentarily popular around the time I was born. I feel like a 27 year old version of the "Aeris" or "Cloud" kids. Only not quite so bad. People will remember FF7 for decades to come, but I was named for someone way more obscure. I can pass off for just being a really bad typo on the birth certificate, while they're doomed forever as being the children of nerds. IronClaymore has a new favorite as of 15:46 on Jan 13, 2013 |

When I used to work in a call center there would be some great customer names come through. My favorite was probably a lady called King Kong. But I think the best was actually a co-worker named Dikshit Dikshit. When a customer would ask about the last person they spoke to, it was always really tough explaining to them that I was by no means joking when I said they spoke to him. edit: Oh crap and I totally forgot Mr. Thickness! There was one customer who was named Joe or John Thickness, something like that. But he was one of those real uppity people and insisted on being addressed as "Mr". So having to call him "Mr. Thickness" was incredibly tough to do with a straight face. thepokey has a new favorite as of 20:21 on Jan 13, 2013 |

My aunt was pregnant with my first cousin the same time my mom was pregnant with me. My late grandfather had insisted on naming the children, which they humored him with until he'd passed away shortly before my cousin's birth (3 months before me). If they'd followed through with that rear end in a top hat's demands, I'd have been named Filbert and my cousin would have been named Clementine.

I was wondering, can racehorse names count? A lot of them are pretty goofy sounding and I love it when smartasses give their horses names like Hoof Hearted. Apparently, there are five people in the United Kingdom named Anita Hoare. I think a Toronto health board meeting got pranked with that name earlier this year. redmercer posted:The part where none of it happened and you're about as funny as a scrotal boil. On Big Island, not really a lot of rich white families in the general vicinity of the locals so you don't get that too often. Same for Molokai and Kauai. On Maui, oddly enough considering we have lots of burned-out stars and new-age types and poo poo, you usually get variations on canned upper middle class names. I knew a Jayden, a Brayden, a Kayden, and a Shayden, all my age. A Clifton, too, who was utterly convinced he was a gangsta, and would have you believe that he grew up on The Street. The sort of street with picket fences and cul-de-sacs and Mormons, at least. Oahu is where you get the batshit rich white people sorts of names, which is equally odd because it mostly has the normal(ish) well-to-do white population you'd expect to get Jaydens and whatever out of. The Abcde and the Ocean (that's oh-sheen/oːʃin), as well as a Brede (like the Brady Bunch), came from this island. I also had someone in my dorm named Squirrel. At first, I thought this was a nickname because that's a very common thing in a boarding school environment (having known a nicknamed Cayanyan and a Weedlord, which, sadly, wasn't me, but then, I wasn't much of a weedlord at that age), but it was entirely and genuinely his real first name as he wrote it in class and was so called by the administrative body. Abcde in particular is perpetuated as an internet rumor, in part because it's so absurd, but it's absolutely a real thing. Maybe overstated by this point, but really nothing to call someone out on over bullshit. treiz01 posted:Is it Ander? I knew a Zorin, too. Apparently, he was named after a storybook character.
