Just leaving this here for you guys to check out, it's the second part of Naden's studio sessions videos he's been releasing the past few days. Wayfinder posted the first one a few replies ago. In this one he messes around with percussion, layering kicks, and writes some really beautiful stuff using Sylenth and lots of delay. Guy's a maniac. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFbHaNdPtSs By the way, what does "Soundgoodizer" do? (e; Apparently it's a simpler version of a larger plugin called Maximus, which does a lot of mastering-related effects) SynthesizerKaiser fucked around with this message at 21:25 on Jan 15, 2013 |

Guy's a maniac. maximus is a multiband maximizer/compressor, except instead of the usual controls you draw the curves yourself. i would call it a really poor man's version of something like ozone, but i find the ability to draw the curves yourself, saturate individual bands, and control the stereo imaging for individual bands is really useful on individual tracks Soundgoodizer is a super stripped down version of maximus, there's only one dial, which is the "LMH Amount" dial on the normal maximus processing, which controls the amount of processing in the low, medium, and high bands before it goes to the master. but it's very limited, and you have no idea what the 4 presets do unless you look at them in maximus, so it's just kinda dumb

trap kind of thing that samples...something very nerdy. I got the garritan personal orchestra pack but the brass sounds really cheese, kinda works in beats like this though. https://soundcloud.com/jemry/m-a-r-s

alkama posted:I thought it could be nice to share my latest "free to download" track with you. It's very upbeat and feels like it should be over top of a summer beach montage video. I used to live in Fort Lauderdale so you can consider that an expert opinion. Thoogsby posted:Decided to upload this little sketch I've been working on. Still playing around with classic/folk rock samples in a future garage style. Feedback is appreciated! This is so relaxing. I wanted to hear that higher melody that comes in around 1:30 more prominently but otherwise enjoyed it a lot. Volvagia posted:trap kind of thing that samples...something very nerdy. I got the garritan personal orchestra pack but the brass sounds really cheese, kinda works in beats like this though. I'm not usually into trap but this had no squeaky, obnoxious Major Lazer-esque synths in it and instead was just groovy and solid sounding. edit: I uploaded this today and would be interested in getting some feedback on it: https://soundcloud.com/fadedreality/fadedreality-ca100 I posted it elsewhere and someone told me the mixdown sounds "quite off" but didn't elaborate when asked. I know I need to work on my EQ shaping but I think part of the problem is too many sounds occupying the same frequency ranges in general. I'm not averse to removing sounds completely but my issue with that is that I'll have 6 separate instruments across the spectrum hitting the same MIDI notes because each adds something interesting to the overall sound. Do I just need to get better at getting a really good sound out of one instrument and manipulating it with effects, do I need to spend more time in the EQ, or is it something else? Dicky B posted:I haven't posted anything here for a while, so here is something I just finished. Yeah this is legitimately pretty darn good! You took a lot of really random sounds and made them work together so well. "High Hopes" came on after and it's really warm. How'd you accomplish those sounds? Is your knowledge from formal or informal training? Good luck finishing your album. Also dig this track, it's got that same sample you used at the end in a few places: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84s_TopLF9s SynthesizerKaiser fucked around with this message at 09:23 on Jan 21, 2013 |

slardel posted:haha, man you are my number one fan! thanks! digging your track too Haha I had to add it when I heard the end. Good stuff. For some reason the mix on that track I posted sounds good on headphones but terribly muddy and off on my monitors. I think it's because I definitely do not have my monitors placed properly but it makes things difficult. The hi-hats are especially varied.

I know the kick is supposed to cut through in a dark techno track like this but I would like to hear the other elements a bit more.

I recently had this idea about starting a thread to assemble SA users "Live Sets" and "Gigs" recordings (as opposed to Dj Mix). I'm sure there are some great long-running sets hidden in all the threads. (But I ended up a bit scared it would be closed ;) I'm still new, so I don't know if starting a new thread like that is contributive or considered as white noise.) All in all, it's probably better to post my latest Live Set here! edit: link removed, was a bad idea considering the content of following posts ;) alkama fucked around with this message at 19:45 on Jan 23, 2013 |

Thanks, I've had a couple comments about bringing sounds forward a touch so I will do. This is my heaviest kick and could definitely get away with turning it down a notch in the mix if its too dominant. I always set my kick bus to -8db with its layers compressed and limited so it's good to know I'm getting more power out of them. Cheers for listening.
