To be fair, the BBC knew about the allegations and were even informed of it back in the day and deliberately chose not to take any action. They are taking a lot of flak for it today, but it's not without reason. They should have done more and they have failed dozens of victims with their inaction.

In fairness you could fix that compositionally, by putting a nice warm house with an EU flag in the left hand part of the cartoon or something.

Because if it were somebody allowed to wear a veil or some such, the cartoons would be people turning up wearing a burqa or some such, and they would be terrible cartoons.

Confliction. Not sure how to feel.

Oh the name was not related to the cartoons just working on , it's just last year this month.

quote:

'Crusade for Freedom'
This was the newspaper's own campaign to give the people of the United Kingdom the opportunity to add their names to a petition addressed to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in favour of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. Each edition of the 8 January 2011 had four cut-out vouchers where readers could sign the pledge and send them to the papers HQ where the petition was be compiled, there were also further editions with the same voucher included. The campaign attracted the support of many celebrities including; sportsman/TV personality Sir Ian Botham and Chairman of J D Wetherspoon Tim Martin who both gave interviews for 8 January's special edition of the paper. The first week of the campaign saw a response of around 370,000 signatures being received (just over 50% of daily readership or around 0.6% of the UK Population). UK Independence Party officials often appear in the paper including the party's leader Nigel Farage.

and 2010 they made up a story about 'Muslim Plot to kill Pope'. Just not had many daily express cartoons untill last week or so. Was trying to sum up each newspaper in its form, eg Torygraph, Grauniad, Daily Heil etc. Daily Express whats its nickname anyway? The Crusader? I don't know. :(

On the surface they'd both be dumb, goofy jokes. It's the context of widespread anxieties about Islam, with the burqa in particular being viewed as a sign of radical Islam, that gives your hypothetical cartoon its bitter taste. Christians don't face anything analogous, so it's just a dumb, goofy joke.
