there was this one cheese that I really liked as a kid, called Roucoulons. My family went on a trip to France after my parents paid off their mortgage, and you could get wheels twice the size there for half the price.

Any thoughts on GSIII vs One X+?

They seem relatively equivalent. Things I'm looking for:

Who has the better camera?

Who has the least lovely front end? If they're both equally stupid, which phone is the easiest to work with when it comes to rooting and installing kernels?

I can't answer for the camera, but the S3 is a shitton easier to root and flash custom ROMs on. I like stock TouchWiz (Samsung frontend), but I do currently have CM10 installed.

Samsung isn't perfect, but HTC seems to have horrible reliability. It seems every one inevitably craps out, battery tends to be bad even for Android, etc. It's a shame because HTC makes some pretty nice phones, but they never seem to last.

I was using my G2/GMS Hero until August. Still have it as my backup phone. Thing took a hell of a beating as well (I've dropped it so many times I've lost count, and it works perfectly).

The only thing I don't understand about it is that it has a hair underneath the screen. It didn't come with it there, but it's there now.

I don't know if this is the right place or not. But Rogers has been pissing me off hard, since they are not giving me any way to see my bills, and this has been going on for almost 6 months now.

I can't view my bill online, when i login and choose to view my bills, it gives me an error, and says i need to contact rogers customer support. I have talked to them countless times and they just tell me they are unsure of why it is happening but will "look into it", it is not my browser, it is something with my account since the same error happens at work, and happens when i showed the guy at the rogers store. This error comes up when i pretty much try and do anything from the web control panel.

I have also repeatedly requested them to mail me a bill, and they say i should be getting one, (the address is correct and all), but i have received nothing.

Currently my only two options are to call customer support and and pay over the phone, or to drag my rear end into a rogers store and have them print me a bill and pay there. Both are inconvenient since the first one i don't get any sort of record of my bill. Rogers keeps harassing me to give them access to my chequing account to alleviate this problem, so they can take the payment directly. But gently caress that.

I have talked to supervisors, specialists and even talked to retention, and they have not been able to solve my problem.

Does anyone have any advice?

Is it actually possible to get the Galaxy Nexus in Toronto anymore? WIND claims to have it but they don't seem to have any in stock.

So with my HTC Desire continuing its slow slide into completely crapping out, I need a new phone. I was originally thinking the Nexus 4, but it looks like it'll be months and months before I can get my hands on one at this rate.

Given that, I started looking at Win8 Phones, but with Telus only having the Samsung ATIV (which, at a glance looks inferior to the others), I was going to try for the Nokia 920. However, after a chat with the Microsoft Store, it seems Rogers (who apparently have it exclusively) is holding on to unlock codes for that phone for dear life. Although the rep seemed to think it was still possible to unlock, but tricky and not something every random phone kiosk could do. Anyone know any place in the central Toronto area that can unlock a 920?

Alternatively, a friend of mine in Seattle can get one from AT&T for $450 no contract, but locked to their network. Assuming he can get it and unlock it, would there be any issue using it on LTE networks here? I recall reading AT&T uses a different LTE band than all the Canadian carriers.

I had the exact same issue when I used to have Rogers Internet. I couldn't access my online billing. Rogers was unable to set it up for me either. They said they didn't know why and just gave up and told me I'd have to live with paper bills. Which always came barely in time. If I was out if the house for a while, I'd have to get my roommate to tell me a bill came, call up Rogers, and pay by credit card. Honestly, that's probably your only option. Pay by credit card over the phone.

The thing is i have not received ANY paper bills. Everytime i call them they say "oh well you should have received a paper bill", and they tell me to go to the nearest rogers store (which is like 30 minutes away, and completely a pain in the rear end to get to), to print my bill.

I don't mind paying my bill over the phone, but for example this month the bill is roughly 40 bucks higher then usual and i want to know WHY.

Your only choice is to keep escalating. Try getting in touch with @RogersHelps or whatever their twitter is, sometimes those people are capable of providing support the phone droids can't.

You could also try writing to the office of the president, saying this is completely unacceptable and at the very least you would like a paper copy of your bill each month at no extra charge.

Virgin have a couple of good deals going on at the moment

Up until god knows when, all plans come with CallerID and Voicemail10

$25/m gets you 100mins, unlimited weekends and evenings (7pm - 7am), Canadian long distance, and unlimited SMS/MMS
$30/m gets you the same, but 75mins instead of 100mins, but this plan comes with 100mb data (overage of $10/200mb)

For Canada, it's not bad. Still terrible compared to the rest of the world, but we're getting there (slowly)

I got an order in for a Nexus 4 for my girlfriend during the December 3rd window. It finally shipped on Tuesday (from Kentucky) and is being delivered tomorrow. Figured I'd say something in case other Canadians are suffering long waits.

She switched to Mobilicity and has been suffering with a terrible Nokia e73 borrowed from a friend all this time. Before that she was on a 3g iPhone. Can't wait to see how she likes a modern Android phone.

Does Koodo tend to get new iPhones reasonably quickly after release? I'm at least a couple months away from having the cash to get serious about buying one, but the Koodo no contract/$150 tab discount model is very appealing.

I'm likely aiming to buy around April but will hang tight if rumours of a summer refresh start to ramp up. I wouldn't want to wait a couple months for a refresh then a couple more for the phones to filter down to Telus's discount carrier though.

I don't see speakout 7 eleven in the OP, I was thinking of going that way, are they recommended for someone looking to minimize phone use to just voice and text?

I now average < 40 minutes talking per month and < 400 texts, so I think that koodo might also work for me. Any opinions?

I ran some numbers to calculate if it would be worth it to break my contract to switch to one of those new Virgin plans (turns out they are offering some of them right now in BC). It's largely dependant on the cost of the sim and activation fee. I went to the virgin website to find out what these are and they told me that I can't get the better $25-$35 plans with a smartphone. I have two questions:

1. If I go to a store what is the cost of a sim (any sim, I have a nano sim cutter) and the activation fee? The website is useless.

2. Will they enforce the no smartphones on good plans rule?

Don't nano sims have a physically smaller contact area than standard or mini? I didn't think it was possible to trim a larger sim card down to nano for that reason...

Koodo and virgin do the same thing where they just subtract long distance from your total anytime minutes.

But is that only anytime as in not during evenings and weekends (like unlimited evenings and weekends means unlimited long distance during those times as well), or do long distance calls ALWAYS come off your anytime minutes while local calls are unlimited during that time?

I'm so close to going with WIND but I hate that whole roaming within Canada thing. If koodo does unlimited LD with evenings and weekends I'll be going with them.

Can you elaborate on this? I thought Koodo simply had no concept of domestic "long distance" anymore - in other words, minutes are minutes.

Yes, minutes are minutes. But "anytime" minutes are used only when it's not an evening or weekend (depending on your plan).

However, they say that long distance takes from your anytime minutes.

Does this mean that, when it's an evening or weekend I have effectively unlimited long distance at that time?

If I get a koodo plan with 50 anytime minutes, and at 1:30pm on Wednesday I make a call to my buddy in Alberta from Toronto and we talk for 60 minutes, I've gone over my minutes and will be charged 20c per minute after 50.

If I do the same thing but it's Saturday instead, what happens? Do my local calls not subtract from my balance of 50 minutes but long distance calls do?
